Xbox report. 1 Billion hours spent playing old games.

Microsoft announced today that Xbox One players have collectively logged almost 1 billion hours playing Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games on Xbox One.

Microsoft's blog post today contained some other noteworthy Xbox datapoints, including:

• The number of Xbox Live players is up 13 percent year-over-year.
• Xbox One sales up 15 percent year-over-year.
• More than 600,000 "friendships" have been made using the Looking For Group feature.
• There are now more than 1.2 million Clubs on Xbox Live.
• There are now more than 200 games that are "enhanced" for Xbox One X.
• Players have collectively logged more than 4 billion hours of ID@Xbox games.
• Mixer now has more than 10 million active users.

1 Billion, huh? So, for an average of, say, 20 million people, that's about 50 hours each over the past 2 and a half years, or less than 2 hours per month.

I still can't figure out why you Lems kept your games from last gen but got rid of your 360 when MS clearly said there'd be no BC on Xbox One. Some might have but a lot people kept their 360s games in case of this happening. Most games are a lot cheaper than the PS2 or PS3 remasters that Sony is charging for.

Those people are so sad. They need to get a life. And PS4.

@xhawk27: That's weird because they said it was impossible to do... Good for you guys that kept those games though. I kept all mine and my PS3. Any remaster I buy is a game I hadn't already owned. It's just weird to keep hearing Lems say cows are rebuying games they already own. Even if you sign up for PSNow, it's probably not to play games you own. That's like saying Gamepass is for playing games you own, or Netflix is for watching movies you own.

What is sad is fanboys trying to think this isn't a great feature. You fanboys need to get a life. And Xbox. Old and New games are coming.

Yeah I don't know how many kept their old games, I was only guessing. If you had kept them you didn't need to pay anything to play them unlike on Playstation. You'll find some great games cheap at places like Gamestop or ebay.

1 Billion divides by roughly 35 Million Xbone owners is only 28 hours spread out over 2-3 years which makes it literally 20 minutes per person.

Which means Sony AND valve/Steam were right when they claim no one cares about BC.

The average gamer spends 20 minutes on BC, Remembers why they stopped playing it and never plays it again.

Gamers want new games. All this did was confirm Sony and Valve/Steam are right.

Less than 1% of actual gamers care and they spend about 20 minutes before getting bored and wanting NEW games.

one of the most important reasons i'm a pc gamer is that i can play other classic games

if they also got mouse and keyboard/ mods/ emulation/ free online/ better sales/ upgradable parts i might move to xbox one

i think ps4 gamers should be asking sony to do the same thing instead of bashing xbox one

Yet we have the Switch that has been touting WiiU games and old ports as new games that exists on other platforms for years. Nobody complains about those gamers rebuying the worst version of third party games.

Meh. I used my PS3 to play PS1 and PS2 games during the early years of the PS3's life. I know the feels.

It's not so hard to beat low numbers from last year, especially in US. LOL Problem is, and according to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, Xbone Q3 2018 compared to same Q3 last year showing almost 40% growth in US. And that means in rest of the world sales are VERY LOW!

@joshrmeyer: My daughter inherited my 360 when i bought the x1, so obviously she kept the games. When i got the x1x, I sold the 360 and she got the X1 - and (nearly) all the games work on both consoles, with enhanced versions on x1x.
It's actually just how things should work - so I don't regard it as something exceptional, but it's hilarious to see Cows make claims and counter claims about an optional feature they don't have, that does nothing that Sony wasn't doing with PS3 and PS2, albeit with a workaround.

Half of those hours were downloading the actual game.

For the price of the original Xbox one with kinect you could have bought a ps4 and a ps3, so there was little point for BC.

Sure its nice to have, but not if it adds cost to the hardware which is the ps4's situation. And as I see it the Xbox does not emulate all of the games so you still need the old console to play all games so its pointless.

BC is a must anybody against this are just trolling themselves. MS is completely right on this front.

While his numbers are wrong indeed, he has a point. PS4 exclusives don't seem to sell towards the main console audience. There biggest seller is uncharted 4 what i got from wiki page, which sold 8,7m. That's on 80m consoles out there. It's kinda bad if you look at it.

Uncharted 4 wasn't released when there was 80 million PS4's around.

And like Nintendo games, they would sell a lot more if PS4 had Switch's level of 3rd party support.

Then what game sold more then uncharted 4? as horizon also didn't sell more then uncharted 4 from what i saw number wise. So that point is invalid

Problem with your argument is that there's no current figures for the games..... If Horizon was just over 7.5million in Feb I would bet it's over 8 million now.

Less 3rd party games = Less competition for consumers money

Nintendo games don't have to compete with the likes of GTA, RDR2, COD, BF, AC and others for peoples cash like Sony's first party games do. I would of thought that logic would of been obvious?

Its the only thing its good for. I like old games more so im cool with that. New exclusives and multiplats are to be played on PS4.

Well MS is trying to calculate success their own way, good for them I guess.

BC isn't bad at all, and enhanced BC is even better.

This part of what MS is doing is actually good for competition as it's Something Sony can improve on going forward.

I'd still be playing Demon's Souls if it was BC on PS4 but I can't really think of anything else I'd want for PS4 maybe Killzone 2.

Since the X came out, those owners have gotten the "best" console version of the majority of games that have released(ie the multiplat releases that outnumber exclusive releases roughly 10:1). BC has given many older games much the same treatment as a "remaster" for either free(if you already own the game)or for a small fee to purchase if you haven't in the past. Where exactly are all these "L's" that you speak of? Congrats on the "privilege" of having to buy a game to get these benefits regardless of whether you've already bought it(or already bought it twice in the case of SOTC).

YOY sales increase is notable, much lower starting point but trending upwards nonetheless, also would be interesting as to which SKU is driving the increase, cheaper base models or shifting more X units?
