Something is up here... 1GB of RAM being used to make the UI 4K vs 1080p? Why is the PS4 Pro UI native 4K then?

Xbox interface is very image heavy in comparison to the the PS4. That is my guess. But, with the SSD this shouldn't be an issue.

Do people really care about the resolution of a dashboard, i mean c'mon.

But its the dumbest thing ever, i mean the dashboard is only there to give you access to your games.

Whenever MS updates its dashboard (which is a lot) i try and get rid of everything i don't need, so it makes it easier to get to my games/store etc.

I have never in my entire gaming life (over 30yrs) seen nor heard anyone talking about the resolution of a home/menu/dashboard screen.

Just when you think cows can't go any lower, they find a way, its both funny & sad at the same time.

User interface can be upgraded with software, but cutting corners on your console hardware design like Sony did with the PS5 is forever.

I honestly never noticed the One X was 1080p.......or that the Pro was 4K.

They looked the same to me.

People shouldn't get caught up on Xbox system software at this point though. MS will be continually updating and evolving things for a long long time to come.

And if it's anything like the Xbox One, launch system software is going to be pretty basic across the board on release.

It's not a final UI but if that means more memory for games that's great. Another great move from MS.

Had an x1x since launch and "assumed" the UI was in 4k.....shows how unimportant having a 4k UI is, especially when the console reserves ram for the UI that could be freed for games.

Sucks. Pretty sure the Xbox360 UI was 720P throughout the whole gen. Playstation UI is always nicer to look at.

If i had to guess is the fact that they use the one on xbox one modify in both cases, so instead of doing a 4k one for xbox one x,they used the xbox one version and call it a day, and since the series X one is not totally new by MS own word that is what happen, but i tell you this if the UI is 1080p because they wanted to give developers that ram for games, that surely would mean the UI will remain 1080p until the machine dies, you cant take ram from games once they had it, it happen with the PS3 already.

As long as its a smooth experience it really isn't that important its great what Sony have done with the 4k UI but really isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things.

If you save SSD space using 1080p assets then they should do that on all consoles, thats what I was referring too. Might not save much but space is a premium.

omg I have a 4k series x for 500 we don't need 4k ui.

you see the ui every single time you turn on the console and go through it every day.

so every day = the length of a really long game. think about for the next 7 years your looking at this ui.

even if 10 min a day total x 365 days x 7 years. 2450 min = 40 hours that is if you only spend 10 min in the ui a day.

I guess I might care if my UI text was not "sharp" if I was gaming on a smaller TV and sitting the same distance away, but 99.9% of the time the image is what I look for not the text underneath it

Oh and the only way I spend 10 minutes a day on my UI is if I leave it on and walk away

HDR not being present is a much bigger deal than it being 1080p.

The UI will look washed out compared to HDR games.

It's kinda crazy that they basically added HDR to every game, tout new games running at 4K HDR yet they can't bother adding a 4K and/or HDR to the UI.

Also, I think the whole "we're giving an extra 1GB to devs for games" is horse considering MS said the OS runs on the slower 336GB/s memory and not the "graphics" memory. That's pretty much an admission that the 10GB of "fast" memory isn't going to be enough and that games will need to tap into the "slow" memory. And that's the XSX. The XSS "slow" memory is 56 GB/s. lol

some of the things that could be put in "slow" memory might not need high bandwidth transfer and that frees up the main memory for other things that do require it. For example a HUD that does not change frequently or drastically could be loaded using the slower memory and that would free up the fast memory to load environments which change

ow yeah ok my bad. but still is that a lot to save for memory of ram? I think xbox will find a way to have it at 4k without taking up the 1 gig of ram in the future. just sucks because the ui in 4k looks crisp.
