Xbox Showcases Will Now Have gPlayStation And Nintendo Logos

Microsoft's multiplatform initiative takes another step.

Going forward, Microsoft will be showing PlayStation and Nintendo logos along with the Xbox logo during its future gaming showcases.

"But I just want to be transparent with people, for shipping on Nintendo Switch, we’re gonna put that [logo]. For shipping on PlayStation, on Steam," Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in an interview with Xbox Era. "People should know the storefronts where they can get our games, but I want people to be able to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we have to offer, on every screen we can."

He explained that discussions to add these logos took place in June, but by the time Microsoft made its decision, the assets weren't ready. He also reiterated Xbox's multiplatform strategy, as it allows Microsoft to create bigger games while also supporting its own hardware and platform services.

Gaming showcases from platform holders like PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox typically only show their own logos along with the trailers they're presenting, even if the games are multiplatform. For example, PlayStation's latest State of Play presentation only showed PS4 and PS5 logos at the end of trailers, while Nintendo Directs only show the Switch logo.

During Xbox's most recent showcase, the January 2025 Developer Direct, Microsoft mentioned other platforms that the games it presented were going to, including PS5 and PC. These include Ninja Gaiden 4, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Doom: The Dark Ages.

Spencer also recently said that he's no longer trying to move PS5 players over to Xbox anymore, and is instead meeting them there.

Good for them.

Nintendo has expanded to mobile and Sony has expanded to PC.

I don't know why people insist Xbox is the new SEGA when these are different times.

I would take it as a compliment to be compared to Sega

Sony is also doing it with PC, as most of the games at the State of Play stated PS5 & PC

I'm sure as more games come to Switch 2 they'll list that as well

The people who see this as a problem are the vast minority now, those that still want to continue the console war because they perceived themselves as on the winning side.

Can you imagine how salty the Patriots were in 2007? All that cheating for a 16-0 record, only to lose in the superbowl and no one talks about the undefeated season?

Heck I'd take a port of Heavenly Sword over the third retreat of Day's Gone. It's embarrassing that it's the eighth game to get this visual overhaul of an already visually impressive PS4 game. PlayStation has tons of back-catalog and they remake Horizon and Day's Gone; what a bunch of ****ing idiots!

As much as I wanna see Heavenly Sword coming back, that IP is still owned by Sony. Sure, Ninja Theory may have made the game and now owned by MS, that IP is still locked into Sony. There might be a way to skim around the copyright but hard to say if MS can actually use the IP.

I'm sure you remember our discussion on if MS next console will have a disk drive with me saying it won't, well Hellblade 2, Avowed are digital only, Indy is on disk, and MS next game in South of Midnight is again going to be digital only, see I told you if you look hard enough you can see what Phil/MS is trying to doing here.

@last_lap: i'm a consumer.. and as a consumer, i prefer digital games for the convenience they provide.. i don't have to get up to change discs, i can utilize Quick Resume, i have access to my digital library on different devices, i don't have extra clutter from disc cases, etc..

it's not more complicated than that.. if i was to buy a PS5, it would be the all-digital edition because i have zero use for a disc-drive..

if you prefer physical, that's great.. but your preferences aren't more important or more valid than mine..

I'm also a consumer and Phil/MS are trying to halve the consumers options. I get that you don't care because you don't want to get off your backside to put a disk in and is willing to pay the SAME price as the physical version, and in other countries like mine, Physical is around $20 cheaper than digital. So the signs are there that a digital monopoly is NOT a good thing. I can't imagine someone would want to piss away their options because of convenience.

the consumers are voting with their wallets and digital is winning the debate.. the vast majority of consumers prefer digital games.. if YOU want physical games, continue buying them and keep trying to get your voice heard.. i sincerely hope you continue to have the option.. but crying about it on a video game forum isn't going to accomplish anything.. neither is trying to downplay the preferences of other consumers..

If Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 gets revealed, expect to see PlayStation's logo on the trailer. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that Microsoft will begin including the logos of other platforms at Xbox showcases going forward.

for example, i'm glad you're voting with your wallet and skipping Avowed since it doesn't have a physical option.. The only way corporations listen is through consumers spending (or not spending) money.. but, I'M playing Avowed via Game Pass because MY preference is digital games and i enjoy their subscription service..

What I'm getting at now that walls are being broken down a chance of a collab is incredibly higher than before. Considering it would make both sides a lot of money.

What is really being overlooked is Heavenly Sword was planned out and mapped to be a trilogy, the games extras even show this.

& then to add further; 3D Slashers have had a popular reassurance, so it's not just money on the table, it's easy money. We know Microsoft worked with Koei to revive Ninja Gaiden, they're on the ball for giving this genre some love.

Exactly, the whole point of this new movement is for Microsoft to go the way of SEGA, to be profitably viable.

Let's not pretend that Mario and Sonic don't have a shared video game franchise_

Ahhh System Peace.... The current state of the hobby. Everyone trying to make money on every platform with games that aren't as good as they were ten years ago... What a trajectory we've got here!

What games made ten years ago are on a completely different level from- Amnesia The Bunker, Valheim, Street Fighter 6, Baldur's Gate 3, Dusk, Astro Bot, Super Mario Wonder, Elden Ring, Outer Wilds, Sonic Mania, Sifu, Monster Hunter Wilds, Signalis, Streets of Rage 4, & Devil May Cry 5?

Less a debate on taste. I'm more curious what game or games you rate so very highly that the above looks to have less overall quality.

@RSM-HQ: just off the top of my head, games like metal gear rising revengence, fallout new Vegas, Dishonored, witcher 3 or even games like Mass Effect 1 and 2 are wildly more thoughtful in their game design than so many games releasing in modern times in the same genres.. Final fantasy 16 or Dragon Age or Avowed... To me there was a desire to take elements of game design to new levels where today feels like formulaic game design and play it safe motivations.

From games consistently get better, but which modern games have surpassed what these aforementioned games that are a decade or more old did...?

@TheEroica: Those are some solid mentions. Think I've played most of them and have fond memories with the majority, not sure I consider them absolutely better than the example list of modern mentions, however they are arguably some of the greatest games ever. Heck I only played ME1 & 2 with the newer collection and had a great time with those games, the branching paths are at least of similar quality to Baldur's Gate 3 with some very funny and crazy options. It would be great if we ever got a new Metal Gear Rising game too.

Ah I think that makes more sense. Yeah if you grew up enjoying the golden age of Bioware and seeing what the studio behind New Vegas is doing now.. it's a pretty lowblow. I'm seeing a lot of #cope when I see a defense force with the recent titles. Platinum is working on Ninja Gaiden 4 which looks very promising, considering Bayonetta 3 was honestly dogshit, it just wasn't good at all I hope they turn it around with NG.

Always read mixed things on recent Square Enix titles, some seem to like the more action side they've gone with. While fans of more RPG systems feel left-out and cast aside.

That take is going to vary depending who you ask. Feel many the games I noted couldn't (wouldn't) have been done a decade ago and most certainly a few have taken notes from the past to take some steps that make welcome changes for present-day.

New masterpiece games never made older masterpiece games irrelevant though. Portal is a great Puzzle game, but is it really replacing a Puzzle game like Tetris. . Or does the world just see them both as top tier. . Feel it's more the latter.

My take on the matter is a great game, is a great game. Regardless when it was made. A game doesn't need to change the world or replace a game you already liked. It just needs to be a great game many people enjoy.
