I mean that would cure everything. We'd have one universal console for those who don't want to game on Pee Salty Seas and we'd have PC gamers who don't want to game on a console but all would have access to all the games all the time making the gaming world a happy place for all. ;o

Xbox Will Acquire More Studios, Phil Spencer Says - "We're Definitely Not Done"

There is no quota for how many more studios Microsoft will acquire or when the deals will be made, however.

Microsoft will continue to buy more game development studios, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event on Monday, Spencer said Microsoft will "definitely" buy more studios, though there is no timeline for when the deals might happen.

"We're definitely not done," Spencer said, as reported by Tom Warren. "There's no quota, no timeline where I have to go acquire studios by a certain time, but if we find a studio where we have a good fit... absolutely."

Spencer didn't give any indication as to what studios Xbox might be looking at to acquire, but he has said Microsoft wants to buy another Japanese studio.

Microsoft's last big gaming acquisition was ZeniMax/Bethesda, which it paid $7.5 billion to buy. Microsoft now has 23 game development studios spread across the world, working on a variety of projects.

For its part, Sony has been buying up studios of late, too. In 2021 alone, Sony has acquired four studios, including Bluepoint, Firesprite, Nixxes, and Housemarque.

Also during the interview, Spencer addressed the rumors that Xbox Game Pass has reached 30 million subscribers. He downplayed the rumor, instead pointing to the 18 million figure that Xbox announced in January.

No doubt the number of Game Pass subscribers has increased since then, but Microsoft likely won't share a new number until it wants to--perhaps at the Microsoft earnings on October 26.

In other news, 2021 is the 20th anniversary of Xbox, and Microsoft has a lot of celebrations in store.

Phil has a massive chequebook and he's not afraid to use it.

I thought right from the beginning when DC died and OG Xbox launched ( aka DC2 :P ) that MS/Sega would be a match made in VG heaven. ;)

Okey Phil you control a lot of money, we get it... Perhaps he should focus more on the studios he already bought? So that one day they can produce games of the same GOTY-standard as Sony’s top studios.

God please no, I dont want Sega to become the next Rare.

Just focus on getting games out before acquiring more studios.

Phil's racking that W11 money is why he's able to buy more studios. By the way, he's trying to sneak W11 joining XBL. Clever girl.

While probably not a good thing .... I think Moon studios makes sense for them. Have em make Ori 3 or a game that plays exactly like Ori with a different coat of paint.

Or Platinum games. Yea yea Scalebound .... but it beats having (some of) Platinum's games exclusively on Nintendo systems.

Out of all the wars in the queue... this is not one I care about anymore. With China testing hypersonic missiles that are nuclear capable and them making direct threats to nuke Japan should they interfere in taking Taiwan... we're either not going to have the hardware to play these new games or we're going to be dead due to WW3.

I have a very grim view of humanity's future.

I can't say for certain just which kind of weapons will be used in the next world war but I am sure the following war after that will be fought with sticks and stones. :(

To be fair, it was working for WCW and they started to encroach on WWFs dominance. That's when WWF decided to buy them rather than compete.

I doubt we'll see anything even approaching the level of the Bethesda deal but i'd like to see them grab up some Japanese developers.. been playing a bit of Scarlet Nexus and it's good to see these kinds of games on Xbox..

In a matter of speaking, Game Pass is kinda of a Trojan Horse if you know what I mean. And that worries me as MS really pushing hard on W11 coming to every platform.

I am sure whoever they buy will manage to squeeze off a half dozen Sony exclusives deals before the acquisition.

Not at all mate, sorry ... WWF didn't bought them out of fear of the competition, they bought them because WCW was done, they had lost the Monday Night Wars, their raitings had sink and the network wanted them out. Talent wasn't really leaving until TNA became a sustainable alternative.
