That's pretty much why I'm not compelled to get a 360 right now. There's no variety. I hope this shooter fad goes away soon.

QFT. The only game I'm actually jealous of X360 owners is Ace Combat, because I liked it on PS2. Otherwise, there's just a wealth of quality, exclusive titles across genres, on the PS consoles. There's just no answer to God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Jak and Daxter, andUnchartedon the Xbox. Splinter Cell just doesn't compare to MGS. Forza isslightly better in physics and considerably in AI, but GT to me has a better overall package. The multi-plats are just that...multi plat. Hooray, I get to play those too!

Lems shouldnt worry about sales because its over for them, stick with hyping games.

-Sir-Poof-

Who is hyping moe games then anyone right now?

I would have to guess cows, Lair, Warhawk, HS, R&C, LBP, Uncharted, MGS4, FF, GT5, KZ2......

Oh...I thought so lol.

:? Whats wrong with being hyped for games, the more the better right?

Nothing wrong lol, it's just that I thought you said that Lemms should just go back to ''hyping games'' when cows are the ones hyping more games than someone who's never played a game in their life!!!!!

And who says there's no quality on the Wii? You? The Wii's first year line up is better than the 360's first year line up.

And you know what, who's he to tell you what you consider quality? That's what really irritates me about Lems particularly. They think what they enjoy is what EVERYONE enjoys. If you don't, you're wrong. It's like hyping review scores on games. I've enjoyed some games that received brutal reviews. Just because some gamespot editor nerd, or some fanboy nerd, tells you something isn't quality doesn't make it so. I don't own a Wii, nor will I likely, but I wouldn't tell you your games are crap. I may tell you they're not for me, but that doesn't mean they're crap. On man's trash is another man's treasure...

Halo series only managed to sell 22 million xboxs with TWO HALO GAMES.

360 is ONLY GETTING ONE.

I dont know why lemmings are so dilusional and think Halo is gonna make 360 pull off Wii sales or somethin.

360 is only popular IN AMERICA. Get over it lemmings. playstation is known worldwide.

halo 3 is not the nail in the coffin to anything but the trilogy. thankx.

Heck yeah shooters were part of Xbox success. They're not for everyone though. I enjoy them from time to time, but I'd rather tool around San Andreas or strum a few cords on GH. Maybe level up my Groovitron on Ratchet. Variety is the spice of life for me. PS3 is just more spicey. I won't tell you the 360 doesn't have some great games...it's obvious from the fan following on SW that it has some stellar games. But for a cheapskate like me that only owns 1 console a Gen, they just don't call to me like PS games.

Indeed, because everyone who wants halo3 doesnt have xbox360, they have a PS3

I would say indeed that sales are nothing, as it failed for having one whole year of lonely nextgen for itself and not getting enough consumers. If any of the other two launched alone, not having to face two rivals (although imo wii competes with ps2, rather than ps3-360) they would have crushed the situation... Microsoft didnt.

Well, better luck next time. At least we cows dont make a threads that are about "360 is doomed". Saying something is doomed repeated times just shows the weakness an fear you have towards the situation and how it is evolving

so everyone who wantedmetal gear solid aready bought a ps3

The original x-box had success? It managed to sell what, 20% of the number of PS2s? And Microsoft's gaming division has YET to have a single quarter with net profit... Losing money every quarter is not success.

Microsoft are cunning, they crushed the PS3 last christmas with Gears, after a huge marketing campaign...

But then they realised. they could of rushed halo 3 and we could of got a crap game that was unfinished and missed out on all this great content, but everyone knows not to buy an on release console, faults failures and what nots are unexpected but happen, instead they have an amazing line up with bioshock and now Halo 3 the final nail!

This way gamers that said last year 'ill wait until next, when its cheaper' have been very disappointed they are gonna miss out on all things halo and 360

Prtofdacrowd

All of the iterations of Halo, combined, have sold around 22 - 23 million copies. PS2 has sold nearly 130 Million systems. Clearly, not all gamers have a taste for Halo.

Seriously there some true fans of these systems and they just dont like to look at reality. I have a 360 just to let you know and all they Next Gen this and Next Gen that, HD greatness and the Wii is topping Sony and MS.I know MS has the best software sales but in like 10 months theWii has surpassedMS.That is reality. Wii is selling in every territory like hot cakes. MS and Sonyare struggling in certain areas. Sony is just really struggling since they havent shown anything where people are going WOW that is the most amazing thing I have ever seen, which is what they have advertised. MS has advertised Games Games Games and services, that is exactly what we have got. Nintendo stayed with the important thing about gaming and that is Gameplay. Its new and catchy, how long will it last, well nobody reallyknows that but we know it is going to last for a couple more years and from the looks of it they will sell an average of 15 to 20 million a year. Imagine this christmas. I have it at Wii 1st, MS 2nd, Sony 3rd exactly what it looks like right now. If Sony or MS dont release something like the wii controls then Wii will continue to take off. Sony is 3rd because after all the bad news and a price drop for the PS3 and still 360 sold more is a painful hurting for the PS3. If the price drops for the PS3 I will buy one, especially after watching the uncharted gameplay vid. If you got the money get all 3.

Yeah, but not everyone who wants Gran Turismo has. GT sell overs 12 million a version. Only 4 - 4.5 million PS3s have been sold. You finish the math.

No actually I don't, but since YOU pointed out that no more Halos were coming to Xbox I felt the right to ask you that. But don't think Halo Wars won't or isn't hyped.....Many people are expecting a great RTS.

Yes cause us Irish never heard of a X370 or whatever : roll : thats why theres an xbox center in Dublin full of LIVE enabled xboxs and system links etc

Thats funny heard of halo wars?

And so what MS does have other franchises and new mulitplays heh MGS4 ring a bell.... Viva Pinata, Gears, Shadowrun, other future ones

Sony is more a 3rd party console which means good games now and again, but they can go anywhere and multi plat if they want, as well as that you have to sift through an enormous amount of crap games like on the PS2

Sony is a 3rd party console? Sony has more first party exclusive franchises than either MS or Nintendo.

Name them then?

Just off the top of my head...

Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, God of War, Gran Turismo, Hot Shots Golf (big seller in Japan), Their sports games NBA and MLB, KZ, SOCOM. That doesn't include the eagerly awaited IPs like Uncharted, White knight Story, LittleBigPlanet, et al.

Forgot Twisted Metal. Man I hope it makes a return. I hope it isn't as dark as "Black". I liked the humor from the PSX games better.

Yes it is a bit of stretch but take a look at Heavenly Sword. It was developed by Ninja Theory, they used to work with Microsoft.

Unless the game is developed internally by Sony, it is not a first party game (Edit: At least not in licensing rights). But admittedly it's a lame argument used only to correct your choice of terms. I belive God of War is being developed internally by Sony.

No need to bump this topic arguing with Blitz. Read the wikipedia page.

"The term "second-party" however, is not an official business term like "first-party" and "third-party", but is used simply to distinguish between third-party developers who develop games for various video game consoles, and developers who while still a third-party, provide software only for a single video-game console"

Never once have I said the game isn't a Sony Game. I just wanted people to appreciate the real developers more. It's like how I would call Mass Effect a gift from BioWare not Microsoft. I even openly admitted it was a lame argument.

INVALID

take a look at Haze. Developed by Free Radical and published by Ubisoft. Therefore it's an Ubisoft game.

So, the game heavenly sword along with the other mentioned are first parties because they have the financial backup and publishing of Sony Computer Entertainment

I think the official rule is it depends on who owns the franchise. Some publishers hire 2nd party devs to make a game, but they own the rights to the IP. That makes it a first party franchise. Other times, publishers allow the dev to retain the IP rights. That makes it a second party franchise. And if the dev and publisher who own the rights have no hard affiliation with the console manufacturer, its third party.

Yeah, I believe a poor choices of words got me in that one. But it does however prove, that not all first-party tittle are developed by Sony themselves which was the original argument.

The 360 has been outselling the ps3 for around nine months without its secret weapon "halo" imagine the sales numbers of the 360 once halo 3 is released and halo fever begins. Is this the final nail in sonys coffin? discussParadiddleFill

Imagine the look on your face when you finally realize the Wii outsold the 360's 1 year headstart in 9 months. I'm already giddy.

Manufacturers: the guys that make the console (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft)

Publisher: the guys with the money (may be the same as the manufacturer)

Developer: the guys that make the games (may be the same as the publisher)

IP: Intellectual Property-this is the franchise. Mario is an IP owned by Nintendo.

If the IP is owned by the manufacturer, it is first party. If sony publishes a game developed by Studio X, and the contract stipulates that Sony owns the rights to the IP, it is a first party franchise. If the contract instead says Studio X owns the IP and can do what they want with it, it is not. Make sense?

How dare you edit while I am replying?! J/K, my original arguement was that Sony owns more franchises, and is therefor not a '3rd party system' as someone else called it.

You are correct, but that's not what im trying to say here. I'm talking about the developers.

I just wanted people to appreciate the real developers more. It's like how I would call Mass Effect a gift from BioWare not Microsoft. They're the ones that working hard, trying to raise the bar but it's the publisher that are just making money. This is why it pissed me off when 2k renamed Irrational games to 2k Boston.

Edit: Blame bforrester for the entire who develop what topic.

it's the same as saying Sony will destroy 360's sales when FF comes out. or MGS4, or Killzone 2, or GT5, or whatever, in fact seems like Sony has more "secret weapons" than MS.

I totally agree with you. We were just making different points then. As a student majoring in game and simulation programming, I believe in giving the devs credit for developing good games as well. Resistance wasn't great because Sony threw money around, it was great because Insomniac make great games.
