I remember when the PS1 came out..A large group of my friend and I went out and bought it. To a man, all of us had our laser get screwy on us and we were all playing our PS1s on their sides or upside down to get the games to work..And don't get me started on the PSP dead pixel problems..I don't understand how all of a sudden Sony became this beacon of quality.I got 2 Sony dvd players that just stopped working and a home theater system that can only be turned on by remote.
Yeah, Japan sure makes quality products.:|
Actually they do. but stuff breaks right?
heretrix
LOL so dead pixels is the same as system destroying discs or RROD!?
Sure the PS1 and PS2 had problems, but none of them had serious problems 3 years after launch, 360 does.
Fact is 360 is one of the least durable consoles ever made.
That was a pretty interesting read. I've always wondered about this myself. I mean MS is doing everything they can to get games that would appeal to the Japanese gamer on the 360, but yet PS3 still outsells it. ThugKing6669
It almost seems like Japanese are reluctant to buy a 360 off the most basic of ideals. They're almost acting a little stubborn with MS, to be honest. Its like they want an excuse not to buy a 360 to me.
[QUOTE="tikki25x"]i honestly dont care what japanese gamers think. heck they barely buy the ps3. they just dont seem too interested in games in general. unless its on a portable or the wii. back in the days Japan was like a gaming mecca. not anymore. justforlotr2004
So because they don't buy the PS3 they are no longer relevant? lol wtf kind of thinking is that?
Bad logic is spreading through this thread like the plague. But tikki does have a point, in a way. Japanese people seem to be turning their noses up at everything people offer them.. Almost like it breaks their cultural values or something.
How long till this thread gets filled with teenagers pretending they know allabout the Japanese, their mystical culture and honourable mighty ninjas that defend against evil american products.
Always happens.

Congratulations! You win.

Is anyone else getting this feeling of brand elitism, or ignorance, from the Japanese? When you look past RRoD, the 360 is the console the Japanese should love really. Doesn't make any sense...

Why would they love the 360? Its best games apeal to AMERICANS, a few average JRPGs hardly makes it a great system for them.
These comments were from last year before the JRPGs started hitting the system like they are now.
I'll try to pull statements from the actual 2ch website in whatever equivalent of system wars they have, if I can figure out there ginormous website later.
Japanese people probably didn't go for the 360 becuase its not 360 = rpgs. It's DS + PSP = rpgs.
I like how people are saying the Japanese people are arrogant, when none of the comments the Japanese people have made are arrogant.
There is still this attitude, or at least when the console was released, that xbox = halo = not interested.

[QUOTE="ceruxx"]"Most people really don't think anything of the xbox. If the xbox were to come out with a good, previously established series, everyone would buy one. **"
supermechakirby
he is right, Xbox hasnt had a good established franchise exclusive to its system that is loved in japan
TILL NOW!! AHAHAHAHAH MWAHAHA
TBH I think the situation is similar to the GC and complaints about it not catering to mature gamers. Sure it had some big M games and some established franchises but the upshot was that inspite of these they didn't represent the image of the system as a whole. Isn't the same thing happening here? They have attempted to change the image of the system but that is somthing that is going to take a lot more than a few good shots here and there.
[QUOTE="ceruxx"][QUOTE="heretrix"]So basically they have their own version of fanboyism like everybody else on the planet. Cool. Now maybe some people on the net that have never been to Japan will stop acting like they are deities stranded on earth forced to live amongst us savages.heretrix
What? Did you even read this?
Of course they're not.
I did read it basically some are brand loyal, some like franchises. They want what's familiar and they want to be marketed to properly. What am I missing?nothing, i too already knew this. the japanese and stupid when it comes to brand loyalty, especially buying home brands. they are even xenophobic with their electronics.

Oh, I thought you were, seeing as you were speaking as if you knew what they wanted. It sounded as if you were speaking for them instead assuming.
I am Japanese, and let me tell you that the majority of things posted on 2ch is absolute crap. People who post on here are low-lifes and absolute losers, so please do not sink down to their level
With regards to the Xbox 360... the Xbox 360 in Japan is popular among a select few gamers that you Americans would consider "hardcore gamers"
"Casual gamers" flock to the Wii or handheld...
...and the "average-joe gamers" basically get a Playstation 3
This generation, development costs have reached a point in which it simply does not make economic sense to be exclusive to one console, thus we have the multi-platform strategy. Most games that come out are available on the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360. The PS3 is made by Sony, a Japanese company with a proven track record in which they dominated the previous two generations. It is close to home and familiar to the Japanese consumer. Of course, it goes without saying that even with the multi-platform strategy thi generation, the two consoles do each have their respective exclusives. Xbox 360 offers exclusives like Halo and Gears of War that simply does not cater to the Japanese consumer. But wait, you say, what about Blue Dragon, Lost Oddysey, and other JRPGs that are coming out like Infinite Undiscovery... Well, the numbers show us that despite these titles, the Xbox 360 is still not selling well among Japanese... Why is this? Alas, I cannot explain this to you foreigners, it is simply a Japanese thing and you foreigners cannot expect to understand it... I have been ranting on for too long... time to /end message

You see I play this game called FFXI, and it has this amazing thing where it lets me play with thousands of Japanese people. So now stay with me here because it gets a little complicated, but I auctally talk with some of them about gaming.
Oh ok then. I stand corrected.
Please someone translate this, I want to know what the heck all the talk about TOV lol.

I think we will read some funny comments.

And what about the other posters? I want some comments also if you don't mind. :)
Though I'd appreciate the eyes of a Japanese gamer I have to point out that we aren't dealing with the a gamer that represents the average Japanese consumer at all here...
And what was up with the edit on my post? Geez...
I always thought the name was MS' weakest link.[QUOTE="justforlotr2004"]Naming it the the XBox was bad marketing, litterally since the letter X mean's bad in Japan. So it's basically "BadBox 360".Dreams-Visions
I wish they would dump "Xbox" and come up with something more warm and welcoming.
agreed. The name just sounds so unappealing. There were three reasons why I thought the original xbox was a joke when I first heard about it:1.) The name is something a kid would come up with.
2.) MS is known for their software, not hardware.
3.) It was the biggest, ugliest piece of hardware I had ever seen on the face of this earth (along with controller).
What MS did to win me over:
1.) They released a more standard, less demeaning, less grotesque controller.
2.)Games like Halo really impressed me and set a new standard for what could be done on consoles.
Eventually I jumped in but i sure as hell wasn't marketting. It was in fact, word of mouth. I've never bought into console hype in my life. Halo: CE was being called the spiritual successor to Perfect Dark, and after I played it, I became a believer (of course now I realize they have their own niche, but at the time Halo: CE was too revolutionary for me to notice or care). Seriously, if it wasn't for Halo:CE I doubt if MS would have survived. They found and flaunted a gem in a sea of sand.
MS improved two major things this time around:
1.)Increased size and variety of their library catalogue
2.)They made the 360 much more visually appealing than its predeccesor.
The still need to do a better job of marketing, because outside of the US , word of mouth does not travel as far. The only obvious improvement that they were able to market succesfully was the console design itself, which still recieves mixed reactions depending on what kind of style of electronics you prefer to have on your shelf (sleek or abstract and artsy)?
Most of the public still regards sony as being the king of game variety, but even if you do a little bit of research this is obviously not 100% true (for the PS3 I mean). MS needs to really prove themselves through marketing because the majority are just too ignorant and too lazy to find out what the 360 offers, for themselves.

YES. it's the same thing. Both products are defective.Oh, this console is broken a whole lot less than this one, that's totally ok!
No, it isn't. A brand new TV with a broken power switch is just as bad as a set that doesn't work. Either way, you gotta take it back.

I think its mostly that they failed with the original XBOX, so they don't have a good reputation. Sony, Sega, and Nintendo all have a good reputation which allows them to sell better. Their marketing is poor now and the 360 isn't so amazing that people aren't going to go out and buy an unestablished console.
All I was saying is that they are just like everybody else. A lot of people seem to act like the Japanese are better than everybody else.well, they kinda are. maybe not in gaming tasetes though.
