Just read a thread at NeoGAF about someone wondering whether or not banned accounts will be allowed to authenticate every 24 hours on XboxOne to play already purchased games.

I found the current (X360) answer for dealing with bans at the offical Xbox forums to be:

question:

Hello to whom reads it, my old account NqSReaper was banned due to my friend modding my avatars skin color to bright yellow or purple.

I would like a refund on my points on that account that I purchased portal:Still Alive and my gamertag changed please.

Support response:

Apologies, but upon receiving a permanent suspension all content licenses, Gold membership time, and Microsoft Points associated with the suspended account are forfeit.

xbox

Do you think such rule would carry over to Xbox One?

Also, what's Steam / Origin stance on account bans? Do you also lose your digital content or just get denied access to multiplayer?

You can still play your games on Steam if you get banned, though I think they changed it to that like 2 years ago. Before that you couldn't. lol Origin. No idea about that.

Lol, MS are really criminals. So if you're banned, it gives MS the right to steal/nullify your credit on your account?

Criminals.

I was talking to my wife about this earlier. A bunch of little punks got together and tried to get my son banned. They didn't get him banned , but his reputation dropped significantly. And with the new reputation based "smart match system", my son will only be able to play with other players that have a bad reputation. There is no way to fix this. And from what I can tell, if he would've gotten banned while using the XBox One, he would not have been able to even access his games anymore...

Not really, you break the T/C so you have no legal comeback. MS is well within their rights to ban your account AND withhold anything attached to it.

Steam is even worse, at least MS is telling you they are gonna rob u up front, before you buy the product. Steam, on the other hand, waits til you put a few hundred dollars into your games library then changes their TOU to say that "btw, you dont actually own your games, and if we ban you, you may lose access to all your games" and then it tells you "agree, or lose access to your games. Thank you have a nice day!"

good.

i hate cheaters.

if you are financially harmed by your actions then even better.

quit cheating.

you guys really want a bunch of cheaters, game glytchers and exploiters to get away with it and not be punished?

on top of that it was a neogaf thread so i'm pretty much positive it was nothing but bullshyt for the gullible to believe anyway.

Would still be a bitch move if they did that.

Why are people lashing out at MS? The kid (or is "friend) modded the system and/or hacked his profile to make his avatar a different color. That isnt allowed and he (his "friend") knew it. Id support any company that bans because of it. Dont hack the system, it could possibly ruin the game for everyone (CoD). You think he should be able to mod the system with no consequences? If you buy goods with stolen money, cops take your money and your goods. Transport drugs in your own car? Cops can take your car, etc

when you cheat in a game i think you are pretty much a horrible scumbag of a person.

How does one even get banned on XBL? Hacking? If your hacking games and get banned, sucks to be you. The fact that it makes X1 useless is just another bullshit side effect of the verification.

ninjapirate2000

No, it's not.

Banning on Steam only bans you from multiplayer games on the engine you were caught cheating on. For instance, get banned in TF2 and you're banned from all Source multiplayer games, but can still player other multiplayer games in your Steam account.

However, you can have your account deleted. They will only delete your account for payment fraud (using a stolen credit card, etc.) as far as I understand it.

threatening people.

obtaining illegal copies of games.

spamming.

attempting to scam other users.

being naked on the webcam.

impersonating support staff.

selling your live account.

exploiting glytches.

cheating.

there are actually a ton of ways to get booted off xbl.

i had a guy on my friends list from jamaica who had a modded xbox and got busted with it and he told me through his new account his old gamertag  was banned untill the year 2999 or something crazy like that.

If they are broadcasting on webcam, then yes. It can be offensive to others, especially when playing a game that takes a picture of you (if enabled) when you lose. Its also why you cant upload your own pics as avatars. There would be some immature kid that would put pics of his butt on there.

Ah, that doesn't sound so bad. I thought that he meant just playing in front of the Kinect naked would get someone banned...

Yeah, my current 360 is banned. Bought it that way for $30 after I broke my old legitimate one.
