What the hell? Fallout and Skyrim I can understand, those aren't big worlds as much as they are dense, but The Witcher 3 is massive. I suppose the Skells will make short work of traversal, but still. Jesus Christ, Nintendo.

What??? Please tell me this is fake, how is that even possible? I hope this is true, i want to brag about it to everyone.
So im guessing we might can do a Xenoblade Chronicles X VS WoW then? Im sure WoW is still way bigger, but would be nice to know how close it is.
I'm fucking infuriated that Nintendo is marketing Mario Tennis so heavily, while having absolutely NO marketing for this game. Their stupidity is mind-boggling, I thought Reggie said he wanted more RPGs for the WiiU, yet the first big one is being ignored!
@ultimateimp: Bro, Mario Tennis is the shat. Everybody wants to play that beast, kids, teens, babies, grandmas, cousins, old retired folk. Xenoblade will get advertising, the fact that Nintendo even spent this much on the game in the first place should put all doubts to rest.
Don't see the big deal. Plenty of maps are gigantic. What matters, is what you do with that massive world.
a 4 year old last gen game vs a not yet released current gen game; seems fair
Yes, because it's not like two current open world games, for machines far more powerful than the Wii U at that, are also not included in the comparison. Let's just overlook that part, and the part where the comparison is cumulative, not individual.

I think Nintendo has resigned itself to the fact that the Wii U and associated products will not sell, and is instead cutting back on its marketing efforts and refocusing them to the few games that are guaranteed to have some returns- stuff like Splatoon or games with Mario in them. It sucks, but the good news is, Xenoblade is appealing to a very enthusiastic niche that will go out and buy the game regardless. The sad part just is that the game won't be allowed to break out of said niche.

This I agree with- I seriously hope the open world is not just vast, empty, and filler (though going by Xenoblade, it seems as though that will hardly be a problem)
@charizard1605: I dont think Nintendo can do anything about it, even if they spent $30+ million advertising, the amount of sales increase they would get would most likely still be way too small to make it worth it. Just look what happened to Sony, they hyped Bloodborne to high heaven with marketing and it still couldnt break 2 million. The game has been $26 on Amazon for awhile and still aint selling good. Sometimes you just have to let the market decide for itself through word of mouth.
That honestly sounds more off-putting than anything because I seriously doubt that size will be justified.
Probably a stupid question, but this game is playable on the Wii U pad right (the one with the screen)?
Gamepad and will support usb keyboards.
So is there anything to do in this big open world or is it mainly just filler?
I think will be like WoW, not much in between you while you travel to the event. The way you can fly and drive fast it will be pretty open. I think they have a bunch of gameplay videos, but i really havnt watched any, so im not too sure.

If it's anything like Xenoblade, it will have things to do.

It did break 2 million, which is enough to have a return on the budget- the difference is, Bloodborne came out on the PS4, and Xenoblade will be on Wii U. It wouldn't sell, no matter what.

Yes.

At the very least, the mechs will make it easy to go through it and not have it be a slog.
@charizard1605: I got to stop looking at Vgchartz, it still says 1.48 million, I keep forgetting their numbers are bout always way off.
Holy shit. I am impressed. Hopefully they will be able to make it living breathing world and not just empty spaces. Interested to see how this game turns out.

And I have a feeling this games world's will be empty, lifeless and void of soul.
What happened to you? You used to be hyped for this :/
Sounds cool I guess. Impressions out of Japan have been very middling/lacklustre so I'll wait and see when I play it.

Would be like real life, you can travel through the woods for days and not see much life. Bunch of squirrels and birds. Whoa, just saw a raccoon.

Ive heard nothing but good things from Japan, what bad have you heard? They ever released them crazy stats of how many hours people are playing it and it was an insane amount.

I am, but do you have high hopes for this over world?
@meathead373: You didnt enjoy rebuilding the town? I thought was pretty sweet, you got to see it change.
Imagine how big and beautiful the world could have been if it were running on current-gen console hardware.
(/troll lol)
@Heil68: Xenoblade's open world was full of shit to do, man. Barrenness is not something I am worried about with this game.
Isn't Daggerfall still bigger?
Daggerfall is still way bigger, its bigger then Xenoblade Chronicles X, Fallout 4, Skyrim, MGSV, and Witcher 3 put together.
Holy crap, Xenoblade Chronicles X is bout double the size of Vanilla WoWs map. Freaken huge. They state Vanilla WoW is bout 80 square miles.
And the open world of Grand Ages: Medieval is over 20 million square KM. Didn't make it a great game.
@RossRichard: True, but did Grand Ages developer make one of the best JRPGs of all time with its previous game?

OK. Elder Scrolls Daggerfall was roughly the size of Great Britain. Many times larger than the next Elder Scrolls game, Morrowind. Yet that doesn't stop the Elder Scrolls fanboys from screeching that Morrowind was the best game in the series. How about that?
Same point. Size of the world does not equal great game.
Unfortunately it clearly shows...
It looks great.
Textures are a little low res but the lighting is great, geometry is sufficient and it's got great art. Last gen consoles would definitely choke on it, firstly because they're ram starved.

Indeed. Density > Size.
Despite having a smaller play area, Morrowind feels significantly richer in content than Oblivion and Fallout 3, and arguably Skyrim and even Witcher 3.
Daggerfall was massive but even for its time the graphics were hilariously bad. Basically they cut and pasted the same barren area a million times to make it look big lol. Bigger isn't necessarily better folks, and hasn't Xenoblade X had bad reviews already in Japan or am I thinking of something else?
