Also lets look at what your getting for your money here

8800 - Video card.....

PS3 - Blu-Ray drive, Cell Processor, Memory card readers, 60gb HDD, the guarentee to play any game that comes out in it's lifetime without worrying about obtimization, wireless Controller etc. it makes sence from a value standpoint as well.

[QUOTE="a_ratchet_fan"]Cobrax, what are your comp specs? I think I've got a damn good set-up, but it's certainly not the best. Still, I barely paid more than $1,500 so I'm happy.

The Specs:

-680i SLI ATX motherboard
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
-Xi-Fi 7.1-enabled Sound-Card
-8800 GTX 768 MB (plan to get another one, hence the SLI motherboard)
-Dual Channel 2GB RAM
-320 GB HDD
-61" 1080p HDTV (no purchase necessary as I already had it) :D
-800W PSU (obviously I'm going to have to upgrade this if I want SLI)

And LOL at your sig. Honestly, the stupidity of some people is just too much...lettuceman44
um, *cough* you psu is overkill for sli......... a 620w corsair works fine

LOL, whoops!  I made a typo.  My PSU is actually 700W.  But I'll probably still have to upgrade.  Those cards eat a lot of power, and I don't think that 700W is enough, let alone 620W.

-8800GTX

-2 GB Ram

-320 gig HD.

A whopping %3 huh? How much more do you pay for that %3? I never have understood people paying upwards of $500 for a pieve of hardware only to play the same game on a console at higher resolutions Halo 2, Rainbow six: Vegas, Gears of war, Lost Planet, Doom 3, Fable, KOTOR etc. Sure there are SOME exceptions such as Crysis, but one game does not justify the purchase of a $500 piece of hardware when I can pay the same to play 10 times as much games, that look just as good.

I would get a 2900xt instead since it will probably perform the best in dx10 games, since the way it was made is how dx10 works

few people buys these very high end cards....its more so that Nvidia can say there cards are curently the best on the market.

and dont lie to yourself...no game looks as good as Crysis...let alone 10....

second...those games you listed dont look better only because of higher res. and more AAA....games like Oblivion and Lost planet look noticably better even at the same resolution. these new high end cards havent even had any games designed for them yet....once they do....the gap between the consoles and the PC will be huge.

Yep, what you said.  In other news, I'm just loving playing Oblivion on the absolute highest settings (2560x1600  with all settings including AA & AF) while maintaining a frame-rate of over 30 FPS.  In fact, I think it's over 40.  :D

Console graphics this gen are pretty damn amazing (Mass Effect and Ratchet and Clank Future spring to mind) but PC graphics will just always be a few hairs better, and as time goes by those hairs multiply rapidly.

Haha, same here (only I got 1 copy instead of 2).  My set-up beasts in that game, although I can't run the game at the absolute highest settings without incurring some slow-down.  How about you?

Ok here goes, these look as good as Crysis (im not saying better) And remember the PS3 has been out for less than a year

Heavenly Sword

Ratchet And Clank: FToD

Gran Turismo 5

Killzone 2

Uncharted

Lair

Heavy Rain

Unreal Tournament 3 (multiplay I know but still counts)

Metal Gear Solid 4

Resident Evil 5 (again multiplat I know)

LittleBigPlanet

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 Versus

White Knight Story

Haze

Assassins Creed

GTA4

Ok you should get my point there are more than 10 games that look just as good as Crysis.

His point was go for hte GTX and not the Ultra, because the Ultra doesn't provide that much of a performance increase....

All the of the impressions of GeoW PC said it looks much better. Doom3? It looked like absolute CRAP compared to the PC version. 10x as much games? Didn't we already go over that the PC gets the most AAA/AA/A games every generation? Wait until the end of 08 and onwards. PC games will start to destroy consoles in terms of visuals. There aren't even any true DX10 games yet. Not even Crysis is a true DX10 game. It's DX9 with DX10 features.

I havent actually played it all that much...but I can run it at 1680 by 1050 without any major slowdowns...but for RTS....you can play with a low framerate without a problem....I havent actualy tried any huge battles yet...so it may lag more their.

I heard that the newest patch increased performence by a ton...so if you dont have the patch yet...get it.

None of those games look as good as Crysis, technically speaking. It's using the most advanced game engine out there. It could be your opinion that it looks better, but technically nothing beats Crysis as of yet. Just remember, it could be my opinion that Halo2 looks better than Halo3. It's my opinion afterall! But guess what? No one gives a crap about your opinions here in SW. You have to use facts. Sorry, that's the way it is.

Haha, same here (only I got 1 copy instead of 2). My set-up beasts in that game, although I can't run the game at the absolute highest settings without incurring some slow-down. How about you?

where did you buy from that you got supcom?

I got my stuff at newegg....

you got to look for it at the bottem of the page...it doesnt come with the product automaticly....

the bottem of the page has a list of combos...and sometimes it will have a game listed for free....their is also a "view all combos" button...which sometimes lists it their.

[QUOTE="catlin_czirr"][QUOTE="darkmagician06"]i would get a 8800gtx instead of the ultra which has like 3% better performance for more moneycatlin_czirr

Sure there are SOME exceptions such as Crysis, but one game does not justify the purchase of a $500 piece of hardware when I can pay the same to play 10 times as much games, that look just as good.

few people buys these very high end cards....its more so that Nvidia can say there cards are curently the best on the market.

and dont lie to yourself...no game looks as good as Crysis...let alone 10....

second...those games you listed dont look better only because of higher res. and more AAA....games like Oblivion and Lost planet look noticably better even at the same resolution. these new high end cards havent even had any games designed for them yet....once they do....the gap between the consoles and the PC will be huge.

Ok here goes, these look as good as Crysis (im not saying better) And remember the PS3 has been out for less than a year

Heavenly Sword

Ratchet And Clank: FToD

Gran Turismo 5

Killzone 2

Uncharted

Lair

Heavy Rain

Unreal Tournament 3 (multiplay I know but still counts)

Metal Gear Solid 4

Resident Evil 5 (again multiplat I know)

LittleBigPlanet

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 Versus

White Knight Story

Haze

Assassins Creed

GTA4

Ok you should get my point there are more than 10 games that look just as good as Crysis.

have you seen crysis?

none of thsoe even come close.....

I have a Xbox 360 and a Pc with Core 2 duo, 2 GB ram, 160 GB hard drive and a Geforce 7300 GT and i thinking to buy a XFX GeForce 8800 Ultra for Crysis(and for another games)or Playstation 3 for Metal Gear 4 (and for another games). What do you think? Sorry for my inglish because i'm from Argentina.

fran_906

If you have an HDTV, go for the PS3. Mine sort of collected dust for a few months, I'll admit, but now I'm freaking addicted. There are enough games out right now to keep you glued to the TV, and just think about a couple months down the line when Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk etc. are out. /droooool

I will be buying a DX10 card too, but if I were you, I'd hold off until there are games worth playing on it. I've heard whispers that Crysis has some framerate/stutter issues, and I'm not plunking down $600 for one game unless I know it's absolutely worth it. I advise you to wait a few months for worthwhile DX10 games and the card prices to drop.

Btw, Maradona PWNS. Gogo Argentina.

Which do you want more? Crysis or MGS4? Also consider when both come out. Crysis is this September and MGS4 will be early 2008 (most likely March). I would think it would be simple to make another $600 in that time by getting the GPU now.

Excuse the belated reply, but...
Cobrax, what are your comp specs?

Honestly, the stupidity of some people is just too much...a_ratchet_fan
I could have all of that for 1500 US$? Nice. The only changes I would make are the following: -Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (That's if it ever goes back down to 266-300 US$. Hopefully, when that happens, it'll be the G0 stepping that's common, and then I can overclock it out the wazoo!) -Intel X38 motherboard (I don't care about DDR3, but I do want my Penryn/Yorkfield/Wolfdale support and PCI-Express 2.0!) -Auzentech X-Fi Prelude (If it ever releases...if not, I might as well get one of Creative's X-Fi offerings with the X-RAM and replace the OPAMPs with the help of a soldering iron to improve the sound.) -500 GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD (The 500 GB ones are cheap enough as-is, so I might as well pay a little bit more for the extra space.) -Catweasel Mk. IV (I could do without it, but having the ability to make an IBM PC floppy drive read Amiga disks, as well as being able to plug in an Amiga keyboard and Amiga joysticks would really aid the WinUAE experience. I could have the Amiga's gaming library and accessories without having to put up with old hardware that games can be finicky with! Gotta love emulation!) Should be easy since I have a 2000 US$ budget instead of just 1500. Only question is, when should I splurge? I could buy everything in mid-August to prepare me for Bioshock and Crysis, but then I'll have to pay a bit more for a GeForce 9800 than if I'd just waited until November. On the other hand, if I wait until November, I'll be left with copies of Bioshock and Crysis that I can't really play on this 2002-era system for a month or two after they release...

nobody said it better than the one dude. Sell your 360, get a ps3 and the card. Most of the good 360 games come to the PC anyway. that way you have a powerful PC and a PS3. PS3 exclusive games will never make it to the PC. that's a fact.

Wait later this year for Nvidia's new line of cards (I'll call it the 9800 GTX for now). They're supposed to be twice as fast as a 8800 GTX. I'd say if you really want to spend some money now, just go get a PS3, you'll kick yourself in the teeth for buying a 8800 when you could buy a 9800 later this year for the same price.

PS3 is a way better deal.

Zeliard9

Only if you have absolutely no clue that PC gaming exists and is superior in almost every way to consoles.

Your CPU's good enough, TC. Get that powerful video card so you can be ready for those sweet upcoming DX10 games, which will blow away anything on either the PS3 or 360. I have an 8800 GTX and that thing owns souls.

Hey buddy! Thanks for YOUR opinion. I'm a PC gamer, and it is most definitely NOT superior in every way in my opinion.

In what way are consoles superior than a high-end PC, pray tell? The price? You can do everything on a PC than you can do on a console, right down to hooking it up to an HDTV w/ surround and an Xbox 360 controller and sitting on your couch, gaming. A high-end PC is just a vastly superior and versatile piece of equipment. It just is. That's also why I've said in the past that while I understand the whole "multi-platform" deal and the PC being a platform, it still doesn't really belong in System Wars. I made the analogy oncethat it's like introducing a spaceship into an argument about the nicest car, and I think that fits.

the games....no action adventure, fighters, sports, platformers, RPGs are better on consoles .....worth a damn on PC

hes asking for an 8800 ultra if he plays splinter cell or crysis on that itll blow away mgs4.

Sorry, but the 8800 is only going to improve the graphics, not the gameplay. A game having better graphics doesn't make it the better game.

Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted, MGS4, FF13, R&C3, GT5, Unfamous... all they are not even using up a half of PS3's power. The 8800 Ultra will be able to play Xbox 360's games with slightly smoother. Therefore, it can't compare with PS3. I'm waiting the 9800Ultra that is true competitor with PS3.
