I'ma SEGA/Genesis fanboy for life so you already know who I chose.

Probably the only thing we will EVER agree on.

On a side note Mega Drive sounds better than Genesis.

I'm assuming that you are probably from Europe. I think that Genesis sounds better, but I'm an American so that's the name that I knew it as growing up and I think that probably plays a role in the preference. I assume that most Europeans probably think that Mega Drive sounds better whereas most Americans probably think that Genesis sounds better.

Nah i'm an Aussie but still find the name Genesis a word that lends itself to many other things, where as Mega Drive doesn't really lend itself to anything and is unique which is why I like the name better.

For me at least it has nothing to do from where I come from/live.

I still love my Genesis and play it occasionally. I sold my SNES in 1998 to pay for Resident Evil 2. No regrets.

Preferred Mega Drive then, still do now. One of the greatest gens, so this is a good contest.

I had both and loved them for different reasons. Genesis had Gunstar Heroes but Snes had Super Metroid! Sonic was great but doesn't compare to Mario. If you could only have one and went with the Genesis you really missed out on the best 2D games ever. That said, I absolutely love Sega. I wish they were back in the console business. I'd happily give up Xbox to have another Sega system which goes without saying.

Edit: I liked Phantasy Star II better than even Chrono Trigger. But that was the only RPG worth anything that I remember the Genesis having.

I enjoyed the Genesis a lot, but SNES is where my heart goes. So many great games and memories with.

  • Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
  • Super Mario World
  • Kirby All Star
  • Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3
  • Secret of Mana 1, 2, 3
  • Secret of Evermore
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Zombies Ate My Neighbors
  • Joe and Mac
  • Final Fantasy 4, 5, 6
  • Aladdin
  • Street Fighter Series
  • Looney Toons Basketball
  • Mario RPG
  • Scooby Doo Mystery
  • Bomberman series
  • Dragon Quest
  • Breath of Fire
  • Crayon Shinchan 1, 2
  • Megaman X series
  • Ganbare Goemon Mystical Ninja 1, 2, 3, 4
  • etc

Well, I apologize for having to borrow your idea, but I thought I would list the games that in my opinion, make me love the Genesis over the SNES.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 1. 2, 3, & Knuckles
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Streets of Rage series
  • Golden Axe Series
  • Bonanza Brothers
  • Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse
  • Quackshots: Starring Donald Duck
  • World of Illusion
  • Aladdin
  • The Amazing Spider-Man Vs the Kingpin
  • X-Men
  • X-Men: Clone Wars
  • Eternal Champions
  • Street Fighter II: Special Championship Edition
  • Columns
  • Bonanza Brothers
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Vectorman 1 & 2
  • Ristar
  • Revenge of Shinobi
  • Shadow Dancer
  • Shinobi III
  • Phantasy Star II and IV
  • Shining Force I and II
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World
  • Monster World IV
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Contra: Hardcorps
  • Virtua Racer
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast(Yes, I like this game)
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Mean Bean Machine
  • Mortal Kombat 1 and 2
  • Toejam and Earl
  • Road Rash series
  • Zombies ate my Neighbors
  • Alien Soldier
  • Strider
  • Ghouls and Ghosts
  • Taz-Mania
  • Teenage Mutant Turtles: Hyperstone Heist
  • Splatterhouse 2
  • Robocop vs the Terminator
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Road Blasters
  • WWF Wrestlemania(The port of the arcade game by Midway)
  • Saturday Night Slam Masters
  • And some other games, but I can't keep this list going forever.

So, I love the Genesis' libary over much of what the SNES offers. Now, I owned a SNES and love its games. The games on the Genesis simply suit my tastes more as a gamer.

I'm not really into RPGs, and I love action and arcade games which the Genesis had more of, and were often better than the SNES counterparts.

I was a Genesis kid and the games better suited my tastes at the time. Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 3 easily go toe-to-toe with their SNES counterparts. Then we got Golden Axe, Alien Storm, Comix Zone, The Punisher, Road Rash, ToeJam & Earl. Not to mention the real version of Mortal Kombat.

For me, the big advantage the SNES had was 6-button support right out of the box.

I voted that you should eat your hand. :P. Would have voted for Genesis otherwise. Either way I find myself playing 16-bit era games way more than PSX/N64 era games.
