@commander: Someday, VR is gonna be the way to game. I love my quest. Although I mainly use it to simulate a theatrical experience. I bought it for Vader Immortal and VR chat which is fun.
But as a true gaming device it has a long way to go. The screen door effect is the worst and the depth of field. If an object if literally 6 feet away it is completely out of focus and unless VR introduces adjustable lens that will be an issue for a very long time. Also the tunnel effect is also bad.
It’s made huge leaps over the past 7 years. But it still has a long way to go.
that really depends, with my oculus cv1 object further away doesn't seem to be out of focus, it depends on the game of course, but in a lot of cases it's just resolution and texture resolution. The thing is tho, I need to look in the center where the sweet spot is, if I start looking around within the headset i get this problem more.
The screen door effect yes, but with higher res displays a lot can be done, and like I said better lenses but the cv1 is a great headset imo, it just doesn't have a very high res and it would be lot better if it used the pixel technique of the psvr when it comes to screen door.
Either way, i see a lot of newer headsets and while they up the resolution and migitate screen door effect they all do a lot of things worse, and that is exactly my point
I mean look at the index, great headset yes, but it cost a fortune, it gets hot and it weighs a tonne, and I'm not sure If i would prefer the controllers over the cv1, the sword sense from pimax looks interesting tho but no release date yet.
