The title of the article for Galvanic Games closure on Gamespot. A good game they say. They never reviewed the game or covered the game post launch. But, titles the game as being good.👍🏽

Edit: Site like Gamespot are willing to create click bait articles about studios making good games closing but they are not willing to give these same studios coverage when they launch their games.

Maybe this post needs a little more meat on the bones, not sure what to discuss here.

Ya, how about you review their game if it's a good studio?

GS sucks balls.

Sadly making a great game is not always enough. The industry is littered with great games that failed to sell.

I had a look at the trailer. It looks like solid fun (Reviews on steam are also positive) but it markets itself as a multiplayer survival game. That's a really hotly contested part of the market. Steam alone is littered with such games.

Hopefully the staff all land on their feet anyway.

Yeah, the game looks fun. Reminded me heavily of Enter the Gungeon.

@Chutebox: I wonder if there is any site that writes reviews on every game that releases? Maybe a resources issue.

@girlusocrazy: They obviously played the game, so why wouldn't they?

OR, are they full of shit?

@Chutebox: Maybe to post a review they need to meet a certain number of hours played, finishing the game. Maybe they didn't meet the threshold for a review. Maybe it is a priorities thing where other content that is being worked on means there is no time for the content on this game. There are many games that don't get reviews unfortunately.

Chute is right, GS is really full of crap, I stop caring for their reviews years ago. Makes me wanna go back to IGN but that's never gonna happened.

The animation in the trailer was cool, and makes me imagine what

a grown-up Vivi would be like.

Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn't look that fun. It reminds me of Don't Starve.

@davillain: No need to be loyal to any one site

@dimebag667: Yeah, I checked the game out before, didn't find it fun. There used to be a demo version of the game but I'm not sure what happened to it.

@Pedro: The expectations people have for lead characters in games also applies to reviewers.

Some people are stopping buying physical games because of how the cashier looks.

That photo is “freelance writer says some bullshit for clicks” personified. He looks almost exactly like what I would have guessed. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Freelance writers for gaming and entertainment sites have a look. The ones that don’t look like that are on Twitch/Youtube now

The gaming market is bloated with videogames, especially indies. They may be good but a market can only hold a few before bursting out. GS cant review ALL the games that come out, nor one can buy them all

Studio closures are a given when you go to a digital store and you never heard about 99% of the games available. Too many games rn tbh. Expecting GS or any gaming site to review them ALL is being too naive

Somewhat related, but Embracer also closed down the latest Alone in the Dark studio. Shame cos the game is decent too, just didn't sell well.

I was under the impression the game was bad. Well that definitely sucks.

@Pedro: Don't get me wrong, it was nothing groundbreaking, but I don't think it warranted a studio closure. Like, they could've probably had a chance to improve if they had more time to shine.

Unrealistic expectations from the publisher maybe the cause in such a short time frame.

@pclover1980: I wonder how much they spent on named actors. Maybe it wasn't that much, but seemed like a complete waste to me. Did they add enough to the game to warrant their inclusion?

@dimebag667: Probably a little too much. That's why I'm against using hollywood/a-list actors for games. You don't get much value out of them.

Were there well-known actors that voiced the characters in this game? It is not just Hollywood or A-list actors that are driving up the costs of games, but hiring unionized actors.

Even so, I would prefer that studios hire actors that have talent than hire production staff or non-professionals to voice characters just to save money. We have gone a long way from the days when bad voice acting in video games was the norm.

@onesiphorus: I'm pretty sure it was David Harbour and some girl that people know. But they also modelled the characters after them. So I wonder how much extra they had to pay for that.

Yeah, I don't what them pulling some rando off the street, but spending less on cinematics and superfluous dialogue would probably be a positive for budget and schedule. And it might force them to be more creative with how the unfurl the narrative. You're also probably right with what we had, but I do sometimes miss a little goof in the dialogue. I don't want it on purpose, but a silly line can stick with you just the same as a great one.
