Yikes, Gears 2 comparison video makes Gears look quite dated!

I just don't see all of the graphics hype for KZ2. I'm not saying it's bad by any stretch of the imagination. I just don't think that its mind blowing. I think uncharted and gears 2 look better.

Have you played KZ2? There were times where I had to stop and admire the beauty of the game....some areas were simply stunning. Never did I think any of these current gen consoles could achieve what I witness graphically in KZ2.

IMO both games look great...simple as that.

But this has got to be the sillyiest comparison I seen in a while and its all based on the obvious:

1.) THIS SHOULD BE THE OBVIOUS - Recent games SHOULD always look better than previously launched games!!!!! Duh!!!

2.) You dont compare a 3rd person shooter to a first person shooter (Call of Duty 4 should have been used)

3.) Both game have dramatically different art styles... war game =/= same art style. Each game IMO were great in different categories, neither 1up'ed each other.

-In the end both games have their target audiences and more than likely they will not cross over. It would be the equivalent of comparing Braid to Mario Galaxy because they are both platformers and have male protagonists. In the end if you enjoy both genres great, if not choose your game of preference and enjoy yourself.

Unreal Engine 3 is about 4 years old now. It's no surprise that Killzone 2 looks better. That said, Unreal Engine 3 still looks pretty damn good... as long as Spark Unlimited (Turning Point, Legendary) doesn't touch it.

If I was guessing, I would say it means a game does nothing to distinguish itself from the standards of the genre. A game with no "identity", since it never does anything to stand out and be unique. SpruceCaboose

You're right, Killzone looks better than Gears. What a shocker. A 4-year developed title with a specialized engine compared to a two-year developed title using the now somewhat-aging UT3 engine. I definitetly didn't see that coming.

It's fact that KZ2 looks better, and is as good in gameplay as Gears2 is, gotta pick it up, i have to check the shop this week :P probably KZ2 will be the best looking game this year, although i would like to see AW on the 360 instead of all those PC pics :P anyway i'm sometimes a sucker for eye candy and KZ2 and Gears2 didn't disappoint :D great games, great graphics.

Only difference I noticed is some of the lighting, and Killzone 2 has much better textures than Gears of War 2 does, but really both games look amazing. Thanks for not posting screenshots as 99% of games with the exception of Halo 3 look better in motion.

Killzone 2 is the anti christ of graphics as far as I'm concerned. I like clean, sharp, crisp graphics which is pretty much the exact opposite of what KZ2 is going for. I suppose if you smudge the textures enough and throw enough blur post processing on top anything can look good in motion.

That said most console games have their level of lack of cleanness in their image, just in this case GOW2 looks allot cleaner than KZ2 while watching the video.

the damage control is strong in this one. Killzone 2 looks alot better than Gears 2 in that video.....the only people downplaying it are, you guessed it, people that dont own Killzone 2. and Mass Effect? Give me a break, that game has more technical/visual bugs than any other premier game released this gen.

While KZ2 does look better, and even better in HQ videos , Gears looked pretty bad in that.
This vid makes Gears2 look like a slouch. Dom's Character Model looks way better on my T.V.

Killzone 2 looks noticably better in pretty much every aspect, most noticable though is the lighting and volumetric smoke. Still love Gears gameplay though, too bad EPIC can't make a good online mode anymore. "Seriously" (pun intended) Gears 1 MP though broken, was 2x better than Gears2 MP. Sad but true.

They mentioned in the vid that Killzone is the first game to have thursters interact with the ground.........

Actually both games look like crap in that video. They both look much better than that when playing them. KZ2 graphics are much better than Gears 2. there is a lot more attention to detail, and the graphics are clear and crisp. Everything in the game feels alive. You have to look around in KZ2 and take in all the stuff that is going on at once with no frame rate drop and superb graphical clarity, and lighting to appreciate what I'm saying. It is just beyond what Gears 2 did. It should be though since it is the PS3's premiere shooter and has been tweaked out for a long time to try and match a bogus trailer.

Don't use some video to judge them. you really have to see them for yourself on a good tv. KZ2 is just better.

Yeah, I really didn't like Gears 2 multi. I used to play Gears 1 multi almost every day. I like it much better. The changes to Gears 2 multi were definitely for the worse.

I have seen the game in person and it is one of the most blurry and smudged looking games I have ever seen. Everything is slightly out of focus, you cannot look at anything like the floor up close without feeling like post processing is in covering it.

If we are not allowed to use this video to make any judgements what is the point in this thread?
