You do have a valid statement that you brought up, but honestly, graphics then weren't as important as they are now. I personally thought that the graphics for 8 bit consoles became really amazing at times. Anyways, thats besides the point. Graphics is a timely issue. If a developer released an 8 or 16 bit game, or even a game that looked like HL: 2, there would be a bit of dissapointment. Yes gameplay is key, but now a days so is graphics. The combination of the two helps create an emersive atmosphere that the player can easily hold without looking over to see 500 pixels on a screen when you look at the wall. So, my arguement, graphics do matter...think of the movie Toy Story or Ice Age..those moveis needed the graphics to help bring the story (comparable to gameplay) to life.

yes, i do own a wii, but if i was a blind fanboy, would i also have a ps2 from the middle of last gen, and currently saving for an xbox 360 and halo 3. no, as i said before, i did give them due, i know they have there part, but no where near as big as you say.

Few months ago, lemmings were bragging how Gears of War graphics were soo amazing and PS3 graphics were soo bad. Now when we have Heavenly sword + Lair graphics.. you guy just jump in saying "graphicxz doezt mat3ersz"

when will these threads end? :evil: graphics do matter. gameplay matters. sound matters. everything matters to make a great game. this is 2007. we shouldn't have to choose between the factors that make games great. we can have it all.CrazyCarter

We cant have it all on consoles, there are limits you know, and we are already seen them, for example, i bet epic would of liked to put some big battles in gears of war, but with huge amounts of detail on each character the game will suffer from bad performance. And far to many games are coming out with bad frame-rates, like Dirt on both xbox and ps3, the darkness has some major slowdowns and oblivion. The devs need to cut back on the graphics so the games run better, sometimes i find dirt un-playable because the frame-rate drops. its like playing a game on max on your pc at 15fps, looks good but not fun to play.

ENOUGH WITH THIS GRAPHICS DON'T MATTER BULL CRAP.

16-bit? BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. you want your old school 2D games? BUY THE HANDHELDS. GO ON XBLA, VA, OR PSN, THEY'RE STILL THERE.

BUT THEY DO MAKE THE GAME BETTER.

Well for those of us who were playing games in the begining, Pong and stuff was a damn technological marvel...it sold on that point alone mostly. as games evolve so will the customers expectations, yes games don't need to be greate in the graphics department but they help alot if done well in conjunction with gameplay.

Final Fantasy 7 one of the most popular FF titles was so well known because during it's release things like that were never even dreamed of by gamers. those polygonal character blew our minds.
