So as you can see from the title - I played SMG. I played it with my friend's son. And all I can say is WOW.

WOW - why do people believe this is one of the greatest games ever?

Constant problems I've had with the Wii that I haven't had with a PS3 are sensory problems. Just thinking about Wii Sports makes my blood boil. In SMG however - the sensor can be sensitive when you don't want mario to spin and irresponsive when you want Mario to spin. My blood doesn't boil, it freezes.

Just when you think my blood could be salvaged - it is hit with a huge metal hammer due to the terrible and shocking camera angles. Something I've noticed in comparison to the Wii and the PS3 is that problem. Wii seem to exploit (especially SMG) the terrible and awkward camera angles during gameplay. The PS3's camera angles during gameplay seem so smooth, so perfect. In fact - if the PS3 were to release a game like SMG - they would have made it a lot easier to operate.

People say the game is hard - however this is only because everything is so awkward to use. That shouldn't be counted towards the generally difficulty of the gameplay because it doesn't make you want to play or it isn't fun.

PS3 need not be frigtened.

Well, I know your posting history so I'll discount everything you said. I find nothing hard about SMG's camera, minus one or two times it never posed a problem to me. The 'sensor' problem you speak of is a load of balogna.. I've never seen this problem cept when I droppped my remote. So still, I discount anything and everything you say.

I actually did intend this to be more of a statement in relation to PS3 rather than SMG itself.

I write something long nowadays - people don't read and just post "didn't read. But here's where you are wrong..."

I write something small so that way people can jump in and make me expand a little more instead of amking me repeat myself.

I'll begin my slow and calculated dissection of your incredibly flawed thinking by pointing out the following:

A) SMG is the second highest rated game on GameRankings, and is marked as having received "universal acclaim" by Metacritic.

B) It has won GOTY at many sites and gaming magazines, including GameSpot, which it also received a 9.5 from, a score that no PS3 exclusive game has even come within .5 of, to date.

C) It has sold very well.

D) Your opinion of the game is rendered irrelevant in the face of these facts. This post was better suited for a blog.

E) You dissapoint me, Yo_Foo. And to think that some on this board regard you as a legend... :?

Lets not have more information on Yo_Foo's unimaginative revelation about why he played Super Mario Galaxy in the first place. Please.

While I myself do find the Wii controller to be unresponsive, sluggish and imprecise, your little "comparison" with the PS3 makes you seem like that type of guy who would benefit from a couple of therapy sessions.Krisgebis

unresponsiveness is a much bigger problem than people seem to suggest it is. PS3 have given users the ability to not 'use' it all the time if they don't want to. The Wiimote is sluggish and imprecise. But people seem to be saying this makes it more of a difficult game which is a GOOD THING.

A GOOD THING? What ever happened to developers making gameply and levels ACTUALLY difficult? Instead of making things stupidly flawed to make the game difficult. It is not a good thing. It's flawed design and it's slack developing!

Oh, I also like how you think of the PS3 as a game and a developer.

The PS3's camera angles during gameplay seem so smooth, so perfect. In fact - if the PS3 were to release a game like SMG - they would have made it a lot easier to operate.yo_foo

Maybe you have bad sensor bar positioning or are at an inadequate distance from the sensor bar, be it too close or too far. I have not once experienced a moment of unresponsiveness in which something I intended to happen did not, or something I did not intend to happen did.

Furthermore, where are you getting this "SMG is hard" stuff from? The only complaint I've heard review sites give it was that it was too easy for the first 60 stars.

Man, you just blew the game's few faults way out of proportion.

Sensory problems? Funny, I haven't had much of those. I generally don't do outrageous motions for actions like spinning. Sometimes a small flick works very well. Perhaps you just overreacted?

As for camera angles, yeah it can be a small problem, but only on some worlds. On most worlds, it's free to rotate and zoom, so not a problem anymore.

The game gets hard at about 90 stars in, which I'm sure that you haven't achieved. And yes, it has a small learning curve with the controls, but nothing an hour or two of playtime can't fix. How long have you played again?

BTW, nice to see you back yo_foo. :)

Yo Foo is 100% right on this. The sixaxis has infinately superior motion sensitive capabilities than the wiimote and the only reason Mario Galaxy has a reputation for being hard is because of the camera angle.

It's refreshing to find someone with enough courage to point these things out

yo_foo

Now I know that a Review score can't be consdiered the end all but when the game has the second highest cumalative ever and not one review on GR is even AA then you can probably understand why. I mean its no fluke. In all likely hood it will remain the most critically acclaimed game this generation as it almost even passed Zelda OOT. Its not just people its the general conscensus reviewers and critics around the globe that think this game is just that damn good.

So when you say things like you are right now you are in a minority. Not to say that your opinion doesn't count but you are in the minority compared to the rest.

As for you saying that the PS3 doesn't need to worry. Um everyone competing with Nintendo should worry about Mario. He is not only the biggest icon and mascot for Nintendo but he is the biggest icon in video games period. He commands presense and his games sell.

Yo Foo can we have some insight into how Mario is no longer relevant as well as some information about how Mario copied ratchet and clankthe_h_bomb

A friend of mine who loved Super Mario Galaxy told me - "the game itself is pretty much like Super Mario 64. The graphics are pretty much close to the same. The only difference is the addition of the Wiimote. The developers have made the game tricky by making the game's camera angles very poor and the game's wii mote controls very sluggish..."

So I guess you could say Mario is no longer relevant - SM64 was a turning point in platformers. It added something different and even though i didn't like it - i could respect it. SMG pretty much just plays on the same repetitive style you've seen in other platformers nowadays that it pretty much seems like an all you can eat buffet plate. All the styles seem to have been done before.

The only cool side to the game though is the whole reverse side to worlds. However you can't really get a good look at them as the camera angles are shocking.

Hmm...

I haven't run into any of the issues that you've mentioned. I found the command for doing a spin very responsive when I needed it, and the camera was solid, on the whole. Very rarely did it increase the difficulty of the events I was doing. If I ever came to a hard part, it was because the level was legitimately difficult to complete. The camera wasn't perfect, but to suggest it was solely responsible for the difficulty of some of the levels seems, to me, ludicrous.

I mean, the camera wasn't perfect (I would have liked it to allow me to correct my angle more readily), and many of the purple coin challenges are downright inane, both as vehicles for extending playtime and as exercises in frustration, but those are small issues with an otherwise excellent title.

Good point. I would even say the graphics are worse than Mario 64. People just get fooled because it's in space. The game itself seems very simple as well. I reckon it could be completely in unter 2 hours if it weren't for the camera angles and sluggish wii controls

Nintendo are pretty tricky

Again spot on. Mario Galaxy is basically the same game as Mario 64. For true innovation you have to loos at Ratchet and Clank on PS3.

Nothing suspect about it. Yo_Foo is a courageous visionary. His campaign to spread the truth about Mario Galaxy is the system wars equivalant of the civil rights movement
