I think a game about One Punch Man would be a pretty good idea.

Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell are on the top of my mind.

But we're getting Cyberpunk, so Akira mods, please come out.

Detective Conan ala LA Noire too, I guess.

Cyberpunk 2077 got its inspiration from Blade Runner, & even Ghost in the Shell, so Cyberpunk 2077 will be my Ghost in the Shell AAA game.

Cyberpunk 2077 also pays homage to Akira, with the Yaiba Kusanagi bike based on Kaneda's bike in Akira. Other games that have been influenced by Akira and/or Ghost in the Shell include Snatcher, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life, Deus Ex, Oni, and various other cyberpunk-themed video games.

@TheGrat1: I know there were plenty that came before. I remember Speed Racer (didn't like it), G Force (cool but not great) and Tranzor Z (rocket tits cracked me up), but none of them grabbed me like Robobtech. If not for Robotech, I never would have cared about anime. For me personally, it is the OG.

You misunderstand. I was not saying that calling Robotech OG was ironic because it was not one of the first anime. I called it ironic because Robotech itself is a compilation of three completely unrelated anime that had their stories changed to force them to fit together. The most prominent one being Macross, which is a franchise in and of itself. There is nothing "original" about it. You did not know this?

I mentioned some of this above. The OG is Macross, not Robotech. The first saga of Robotech (the saga shown in that image) is an Americanized version of Macross. While the second and third Robotech sagas are two other unrelated anime, Southern Cross and Mospeada, edited to make them look like sequels to Macross.

Robotech is a controversial show. On the one hand, it greatly toned-down Macross, to make it more Americanized and kid-friendly. And it was licensing issues surrounding Robotech which prevented the superior OG Macross from being released in North America for a long time, like your video points out. But on the other hand, Robotech helped introduce anime to North America, paving the way for anime going mainstream in the '90s. And even Robotech's toned-down version was quite controversial for '80s American audiences, introducing them to the idea of animation for grown-ups. So Robotech is a pretty important and influential show in that regard.

@Jag85: I would like to add that Harmony Gold adding Southern Cross and Mospeda to Macross in Robotech is due to the fact that syndication rules for American television stated that a series needs at least 65 episodes to air, but Macross had less that number of episodes. Since it is in syndication, Robotech was able to air outside the timeslots for children programming. In fact, I remembered when Robotech first aired in 1985 (I was ten years old at the time), it aired right after children programming on one of my local TV stations.

Too bad due to licensing issues that recent installments of the Macross series (Macross Frontier and Macross Delta) will never be released officially outside of Japan.

One of the best elements of Macross is the singing, especially by Lynn Minmay, Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee, and more recently the five female group called the Walkure.

Gotta be Girls und Panzer. Granted, we have Dream Tank Match which is good...but I can hardly call a game with less than ten simultaneous tanks in a battle a high budget-triple AAA tittle.

To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of the musical aspect of Macross. I loved some of the music in classic Macross (OG Macross, Do You Remember Love, Plus, Macross 7), but couldn't care less about the J-pop music in modern Macross (Frontier, Delta). The main draw for me has always been the character drama.

The only Macross show where I genuinely loved the musical aspect, however, is Macross 7. Basara and his Fire Bomber band capture the feel of classic rock bands. But more importantly, Macross 7 actually integrates the musical theatrics into the mecha action. It combines a rock concert musical with mecha action in its own unique way that hasn't been done before or since.

Come to think of it, Macross 7 would make a great rhythm-action game hybrid. Like a mixture of Guitar Hero meets Zone of the Enders. That shit could actually work.

Maybe Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress could work as a videogame.

Oh, ok. I have minimal knowledge of the whole Robotech/Macross issue but just don't care. I grew up watching Robotech and that is what it will always be to me. I understand where you're coming from if anime is your thing. I'm a comic book guy myself and I can be a stickler for lore and details when having a comics discussion. I kind of faded out of anime in the early 2000's.

@blueinheaven: ScarJo wasn’t the problem (though the reason for her casting doesn’t hold up to scrutiny). Everything in that movie’s script should have been aborted.

Berserk by FromSoftware or sumthin. A Cowboy Bebop game could be cool as well.

Nope I wasn't taking a pop at her I think she's amazing. She's more likely to save a game to movie project than sabotage it.

Samurai Jack

But it needs to be 2D or so insanely cell shaded that you can't tell it's 3D polygons, but are fooled to think it's actually hand drawn sprites.
