I think it says its beating the PS3.
And I think that the childish name calling directed at an inanimate object makes you look foolish.

Oh, and why do people say the 360 had no competition? Did all the other game systems stop existing for the year the 360 was out before the PS3 and Wii?
The cows today are grasping at any straw now. Look your console is in last place in hardware and software so just deal with it. Seems the PS3 users on here are getting way to upset about this. Eltrozso tell me something how do sales affect your overall gameplay? Do you think about how many copies gears sold while playing it, because I certainly don't.

Honestly, Sony really shot themselves in the foot this gen. The cost of their hardware is simply dangerous for a free market company, not to mention the difficulties in developing for the console.

Yet, PS3 is losing still, and 360 is losing still both to the wii... which was released with inferior hardware, during fierce competition.

While I think you do have a point, do not suggest that sales do not affect us. They most certainly do.

PS3 users and cows are not automatically one and the same. I am a PS3 user. I am not a cow.

But if you look at the sales part from a business perspective, it's everything. Doesn't matter if the game is good or bad, but how well it sells. A company in their right mind wouldn't fund something that people rarely buy.

They affect us in an overall manner, yes they determine sequels and the overall quality of a game due to us giving Devs more money for development cost. But my theoy is if Game X sells 1,000 and game Y sells 500 how does game X selling 500 more copies make it a better game? More popular yes. Better no.

You are completely right in your theory. I was just pointing out a concern that I've had. When people argue along those lines, they always seem to go too far and suggest that sales are completely meaningless. I am glad to see that you recognize that they do affect us, although indirectly.

Because they swore by the theory that when all the big hitters of 08 were released, this would push PS3 sales into the stratosphere, maybe even catching and surpassing the Wii.() But numbers like the ones we've seen out of Japan over the course of the last 6 weeks (where XB360 was on life support) and the latest NPD numbers show that what cows have been preaching all year long held no weight whatsoever. And all fanboy factions are guilty of it, but cows were the most obnoxious about it.
Now that said theory failed, and will more than likely continue to fail (at least in NA) for the rest of this year, cows have already moved on to ignoring their mishap and are actively hyping 2009 releases. And if cows wondered why GTA4, DMC4, Tekken 6, FFXIII, and possibly even more once-Sony exclusives are and WILL BE jumping ship, peep those software numbers out.

Xbuggy360, how clever. I'm guessing this thread is in regard to October's NPD. Maybe you should have just posted in the sticky. Either way, it still shows the Xbox ahead, and overall the Xbox sold more this October than it did in October 2007. The point is mute though as its only sales and you can't play sales.

If nobody bought Gears 1, there wouldn't be a Gears 2. So yes, sales affect my gameplay.

To an extent I agree with you, I'm just tired of people on system wars saying units sold=quality. The yearly Madden iteration has sells greater than most games but it is in no way an indication of quality (IMO).

Ph I agree sales do not mean quality. Just stuff like more people online like the poster above said, Fable fans can feel happy knowing Fable 3 will prolly be made now because of the sales. Epic I am sure loves the 360 because of the Gears sales. I am not saying every Epic game will be exclusive but they will always try and put it on the 360.There is many other examples but that just 3 fast ones. Good software sales is really what helps the userbase get more games but better hardware sales helps the userbase get those software sales.Ph I agree sales do not mean quality. Sorry, my post wasn't directed at you. Instead I was speaking to the fanboy base. I know you didn't mean sales equal quality as you are a good poster here on SW. I'm just tired of the hypocrisy among the various factions.
Why are cows celebrating a PS3 "victory" over Xbox 360 before it's actually happened? Ohhhh, maybe because deep down, they accept the possibility that day will never come, so they create their own party based on fabricated pretenses?
And this is in NO way to infer that I think the PS3 is a "failure", a "bad console" or in any way "floppy". It is a great gaming console, very graphically capable with a steadily growing library of quality titles. This is just that I've been saying since 2006, that the PS3's launch price would be a long term detriment to its market share. History has shown that expensive consoles have done poorly.
In 2 years I (nor history) has been proven wrong on this point.

No. Its from Unbirthday, which is an Alice in Wonderland reference.
Yes the 360 has sold 5 million more units.
Math done. Can I go now?

Nope.

I'm guessing if you had done the maths right, the PS3 would somehow be on top right now.

+10 to SpruceCaboose!! I'm not exactly sure what the prize is, but congrats, you won it!
The 360 is winning, but the race isn't fair. It never is. You can't expect them to release at the same exact time with the same price tag.
Poor PS3, lol.
Rikusaki
Why isn't the race fair? I've seen many people compare the sales of the ps2 and Xbox, so why isn't it fair for the 360 and ps3 to be compared? (And please don't think I'm suggest that even if released at the same time the Xbox's sales would have even come close to the ps2's sales)

Well in that case I predict the PS3 will outsell the 360 in 2008.....And will eventually overtake the Wii.Isn't it sad that there are people who actually believe that?

Yes it means more games for the platforms, and just more games in general. But unless the 360 goes the route of the ps2 and just blows ps3 out of the water, I don't see developers quitting on the ps3. If you note, while ps3 is dead last, it is still moving units. As long as developers can make money off of a system, they will continue to do so.
I don't forsee the ps3, or any game console, going the route of the dreamcast. Also, 3rd part developers jumped ship to 360 due to the fact that 360 jumpstarted this gen. It would be silly of them not to take advantage of 360's customer base and make money off of them. No 3P developer will remain exclusive without compensation. MS bought a lot of them to make sure 360 suceeded and it worked.
PS3 stumbled out the gate because it tried to play middle ground----try to expand its demographics like Wii did, while maintaining its status amongst gamers like 360 did. They bet on the ps3 to be this multimedia hub point----"you won't need anything else but the ps3" selling point, and practically failed at making people just run to get it, especially with their initial price point. But it is still selling units and developers will not ignore it. Plus sony is relying more on its 1p and 2p developers.
So I do agree sales matter, but don't think that any console this gen is going to lose any software developers, unless the 3p exclusivity are paid for it. I don't forsee any console pulling a sega.
That said, the TC, amongst other rabid fanboys are on the prowl today. Wii is a beast that came out of nowhere. MS learned from the Xbox gen and secured more software developers and is doing its thing. PS3 stumbled, but is still moving units. Sony were humbled, and I think all console makers will take note. This means more competition in future gen consoles------more reasonable prices, better and reliable consoles, and more cautious software development. Win-win for gamers! be happy with that! And face it ps3 may or may not catch up, Wii may self destruct, MS may come out on top. Just play the games.
I usually enjoy system wars because of the silly statements made by fangirls, and also interesting posts, comparisons, etc. But today has been out of hand. I am surprised the TC has not been modded. i think he has made 3-4 threads today!
