The $200 more isnt just for graphics.....

Its Card Readers, 60GB HD, WiFi, Blu-Ray, HDMI, Additional USB Ports.........

This Thread fails.

Blackbond

I guess it does. Thankfully I have a 20GB because I really could care less about all that extra baggage.

well I for one care about the bigger HD, Blu-Ray, and Card Readers so I could care less what someone else thinks. Extra baggage to you isnt extra baggage to everyone else. Isnt that the point Microsoft is also trying to make by releasing the Elite?

Well your entitled to your thoughts. But last I checked this was a video game industry not a multimedia industry. The first and main focus of any machine should be gaming. A lot of this stuff Sony is putting is not needed. And now without the $500 version you are pretty much forced into buying all of it.

if this is just a gaming industry....then I guess Microsoft is at fault too for releasing the Elite which lemmings just claim is useful for IPTV...which is, guess what? A multimedia feature.

Its a gaming industry but lets face it...consoles are becoming the all-in-one boxes of living rooms little by little.

....if $100 is gonna turn u off from buying a PS3 because the 20GB version is discontinued...then you never really wanted a PS3 to begin with. What is $100 really? A week of minimum wage work gets you a paycheck bigger than that.  This is my last response...time to let this bias thread die.

I don't support the Elite at all because its features are pretty unecesary for gaming. But at least the Premium is still there. The 20GB PS3 isn't available anymore its gone. That would be like if the Premium was discontinued and all you could get would be the 360 Elite. I already have a 20GB, oh and by the way if your working minimum wage I don't know how you are going to ever afford a PS3. The thread isn't biased. You act like Sony is the only one guilty of this. I look at the Wii and see the same thing. This system is newer and more expensive and it isn't showing me more impressive visuals then the consoles that preceeded it. If you're talking about bias you not even considering others opinions which you indeed did do above is what is called bias.

The PS3 gives you alot for your buck. period. If you dont like it dont buy it.  Microsoft gives you choice in SKU's. Sony gives you choice in whether or not you should swipe your credit card or throw down green paper.

The argument is moot.  People are going to buy it if they want it. Period.  Just because you dont see the need for the $599 PS3, doesnt mean someone else doesnt.  I saw the need for it for my personal experience.  Buy it or dont buy it, end of discussion.  Stop trying to beat a dead horse.

There shouldn't be any comparison in my opinion. A system that comes out a year later and at a higher price should be able to outperform a one year older system which cost $200 less any day of the week. Why is this not happening? Something like this is just inexusable to me. I should be able to clearly see the results of a newer machine that is priced $200 more. Although I don't believe in graphics being the end all and to be important.

I really dont' even care about graphics to put it bluntly as my PS1 remains the most active system of the last three years. It just confuses me why there are even debates about these two systems graphical capabilities when the PS3 clearly should be better. Why am I paying $200 more for equal graphical and gaming capabilities? Well besides getting the good games of course 8)

Blackbond

Its a known fact that the 360 has better graphics capabilities, but the ps3 has blu ray ( not important for gameing) and more processing power.

I agree. When Xbox came out a year after PS2, it had amazings graphics in a few games. Why is it not the same case here with the PS3?

You're paying $200 more to help Sony win a format war.  Being a movie fanatic I didn't mind and have loved the ability to view Bluray movies.  So to me it was worth it.  However, if someone just wants a gaming machine I don't think it's as good as a 360.ramey70

I fell into the same trap with sony 2x before, with sony media, first was betamax, then the UMD. Both were horrible failures, if sony would have only released a UMD burner. See the problem with sony media is that they are so closed about it, they will only let me do what they want with it. I'm sick of being burned by sony formats, I will not consider blue ray a feature, untill it win's the format war. I would buy a PS3 if it had games, and was bout 200.00 cheaper, but man I just cannot bring myself to pay 600.00 for a console. Your talking PC prices, becuse that's how much I spend annually to keep my PC upto date, Plus my PC earns me money, so I cannot argue there. If they would pay me to run my console to fold@home, then yeah PS3 would be a no brainer. I know the PS3 is only on it's first gen games, but even sony makes me nervous about the devs being able to unlock the "POWER" of the sony system. I haven't seen a PS3 port that runs better on the PS3 yet (in reviews), probably becuse it's 360->PS3. However I think that is the way most games are going to go 360->PS3. If sony would have only taken the year to make the PS3 a better console, than blue ray player, they would be stomping the 360's butt. However they didn't and they even got arrogant, and for that karma paid sony back with the WII, who would have thought the cinderalla story would even be a contender? The WII just kills sony becuse it sucks thier casual market down the drain. The 360 will be outsold by the WII at a ratio 1.6:1 and maybe even more. So sony's promise of graphics, is well founded, but it's not like it's going to be all that much better than the 360's, and when will it be, not even the most diehard PS3 fan can answer that question.

The fact is whatever the ps3 can do the xbox 360 can do or can do better.  The cell will not improve graphics because the rsx is not any better than xbox 360's gpu.  Ps3's main problem is it's outdated gpu.

Sure if you wanted the 20gb model but the truth is PS3 fans had the chance to vote with their money which one they wanted and they chose to buy a 60gb model and stores chose to order 60gb models over 20gb. You cant please all of the people all of the time.

dumfart66

Not true at all. Sony made a limited number of the 20 gb systems, and it was the only thing that became 100% sold out. They may have given a choice, but it was no where near letting people decide.

The 20GB model was out numbered 4 to 1 by the amount of 60GB models what do you expect?

No the whole topic was that a $200 more expensive machine should trounce the other one due to it being more expensive and it being newer. Sales and money weren't an issue. It was always about why a newer more expensive machine isn't clearly graphically superior.

Honestly it's not about the price so much as it is the lies Sony made or hyped about how the PS3 would like destory the 360 in graphis and etc... Yet the 360 has the better looking game, overall better looking games IMO and better looking ports or better ports in general.

you are paying $200 more because you are getting a brand new developed processor, the cell, a brand new developed storage drive, the Blu-ray, a Wi-fi connector, and free online experiences.

Game13a13y
yeah they call it "potencial".
