@jahnee: Man, you skip between several points and ideas withing the span of 4 paragraphs. It makes your whole thread confused. What is your problem? Scrpited games? Loot boxes? Microtansactions? The potential for gambling? Scripted demos? Non in game demos? You have confused and combined several different, at times, unrelated problems.

Sticking to the topic expressed in your thread title, I agree, the entire gaming community is somewhat responsible for allowing developers to get away with microtransactions, leading to a normalisation of a once niche practice. Not just that, these games are released at full price (anywhere between £40-50 in the UK) and then they expect incremental payments throughout the game, whether it be sp or mp.

However, there is a bigger culprit and that is the media, whether it be sites like this or IGN or any other, or whether it be YT reviewers under the guise of being independent but in reality involved in the same scam. Take the highly rated ACG channel on YT and its recent review of AC Origins. He literally papers over the microtransactions, says a line which basically equates to "whatever" and then moves on. One of the few channels that actually speak honestly on this issue and do so at their own risk is Pretty Good Gaming.

Collectively, those of us smart enough to see beyond marketing need to hold both other gamers and the media to account.

I have never been into it, but I have noticed on SW that most of the posters here are (cant say sheep, but most of the posters here are followers) to their selected console and dont think much of industry manipulation. Console gaming has become a convoluted mess to milk every dollar out of our pockets for miniscule improvements.

Sigh. I have the comprehension level of a six-year old. Why not redo your post in bullet format and get to the point?

Lemmings fault, they created and encouraged this.

Thankfully Nintendo and Sony with their by the gamers for the gamers mantra do not do these awful practices.

Another first world gamer whine about lootboxes.

Can the TC show me a circumstance in a game that's not Korean where lootboxes are actually required to make progress or play parts of the game? I cant think of any and I play mostly MP games full of lootboxes.

They are mostly cosmetic stuff that's not mandatory. And I actually don't mind paying microtransactions for cosmetic items I really like so my favorite devs can keep the lights on and keep updating the games I like.

As far as DLC goes, just wait for it to go on sale. It always does. Hell I never buy single player AAA games now on release because they all go on sale eventually with all the DLC included.

And I also like gambling. I goto Vegas four times a year and don't regret it at all.

So you're welcome TC. Maybe it'll make you mad enough that you find a hobby you don't have to whine about.

@Mercenary848: Microtransactions are not unique to consoles, unless you're telling me Destiny, Mordor, Forza et al are different on PC compared to consoles?

that makes no sense. The fact that humans aren't still confined to caves is proof that change is constant and cannot be prevented.

Well, a badass on the internet told me what to do. Better stop buying games I enjoy in order to suit this guy's demands.

@jahnee: Because it is erroneous and is almost always used by misanthropes who ironically have never done anything to contribute to society or help mitigate its problems.
