The person that came up with the idea of Mists of Pandaria should be fired. And better yet -- how about they fire the entire cinematic team so they can go on to a better studio and do awesome work for better products? Lethalhazard

lol no, Samwise Dider is a great artist.

Well if nothing else it pretty much confirmed that Blizzard has stopped taking the WoW lore seriously.

No actually though it's a good trailer. Not great like I would hope though, BC and WOTLK still have much better CGI openings.

Vaasman

For the first time, Blizzard really gets to create entirely new lore instead of running of pre-existing stuff from the RTS games. It's actually very good for them.

MoP is a very fun expansion going by the beta.

his has never been true either -- mages havent always been the #1 PvP class. The #1 pvp class for the longest time (not including vanilla) was resto druid. Yeah, resotration druid + MS warrior combo in seasons 1-4 of the original WoW................... Warlocks were THE pvp class in vanilla. Mages have never been tip top of the game overpowered, unless it's been recently (i havent played since WoTLK). Lethalhazard

Vanilla never had a single class that dominated PvP. The moment you reached a warlock in vanilla they were dead. In WotLK it was the worst, because of how overpowered frost was. In cata to a lesser degree, but they are still highly annoying because of all their defenses.

Thats cute.....you think WoW ever had any difficult content. The scale went like this. Completely retarded-------------------------------I can walk and chew gum at the same time. Wrath and Cata were on the completely retarded level of difficulty. Vanilla/BC was the "hard stuff" aka i can walk and chew gum at the same time.

ChubbyGuy40

If you are Nalene, then you're lying about not playing past TBC. Too embarassed you're playing Casualclysm? I'm starting to bet Nalene wasn't your character.

You also played a mage. The class that has the lowest skill cap ever.

Thats me alright, but thats not the original account i played on. I was alliance originally.

Nice to see you actually took the effort to try to catch me in a lie. It's hilarious that you actually think i would go through such an elaborate hoax to prove i played a game four years ago.

I apologize for not getting more proof, but i didnt plan on having to defend my LEET wow skills four years after i quit.

Go back and re-read it. Not only were you lying, you're entire guild was the worst kind of scum that plauged PvP.

What guild? The guild i did all my content on was Second Nature. That guild didnt PVP except me and my arena partners for the most part. We were strictly a PVE guild for the most part.

What am a lying about. I was 2500 S2/S3/S4 glad and was in a world 50 guild. Once agian i apologize for not assembling a ton of proof since i was never planning on having to prove i was good at a video game four years after i stopped playing.

I played that account for about two weeks because i seriously thought i was going to get back into the game. I hated it and changed my mind. As you can see, that account hasnt been active in a very long time.

I never lied about anything. I specifically stated i played Cataclysm for a couple of weeks to another poster earlier in this thread.

Where is cata's competitive scene? oh they botched it up completely from the word go. Besides, you made the skill determines opinion claim, not me. time for you to back it up. oh wait, its a 12 years old excuse to try and justify why people think and old milked game isn't all that anymore.

Having not played the beta I can only assume the writing will be worse than ever for that exact reason. Blizzard's current writing staff are completely incompetent, and with nothing to build off of they alone will be crafting the entire setting.

Gone to other games most likely, or died down. I never defended Cataclysm's PvE or PvP content. As much as I despise TBC, Cataclysm was the worst thing that could've happened to the game. I didn't say skill determines opinion either. If I did, please point out where I did. Are you gonna keep saying "12 year old excuse" or are you actually gonna make an argument?

You don't get 3500 achievement points in two weeks. That character doesn't appear on the armory because he doesn't exist under that name, realm, or faction anymore.

I was originally ALLIANCE, LIKE MY MAGE. I played on a friends account that had a mage too. I played it with the hopes of it rekindling my interest in the game, but unfortunately it was still terrible.

What archives? I am pretty sure no posts exist regarding my guild since Blizzard introduced a new forum system and got rid of all the old posts.

My guild was generally very well liked. I think you are reading the wrong posts.

There is no conspiracy theory going on. I played the game. I was good at the game. (which means nothing) I stopped liking the game. I stopped playing the game. I played Wrath for a couple weeks. I played Cata for a couple weeks.

End of story.

You keep on hanging tight to your delusional beliefs that i would make something up so trivial.

Judging art is subjective, imo when you create art of some of gaming most recognized characters, I think that classifies you as being great.

This boosting nonsense was archived from the old forums by wowarchives and later cached by Google since they no longer exist.

Now I'm only curious as to why you can't give a straight answer and how being good at a game means that it's automatically easy.

My guild was awful at PVP except for me and my three friends in the guild who happened to be highest rated players on the battle group for several seasons. The guild did not give two ****s about PVP. I dont remember anyone boosting because they didnt care about PVP. The guild eventually transfered to Kilrogg since Terenas was an awful server for recruitment.

What straight answer have i not given you? Not my fault you refeuse to believe me for whatever reason. The game was easy. I didnt view my "accomplishments" as praise worthy. Unfortunately Blizzard thought the game was too hard and they continuously nerfed the game to the point the game basically played itself.

It was, and I don't deny it. I personally didn't enjoy it since I played a paladin all the way through and the guild I had was very corrupt, but again I won't deny what it did. WotLK was a turning period for WoW, and many seem to ignore heroics because they got to do the normal modes. Heroic Ulduar, Heroic TotGC, and Heroic ICC were extremely challenging. Ignoring the difficulty of heroics in Cataclysm still continues (raids, not dungeons. The dungeons were piss-easy.) I didn't say you're all bad at the game, but you can't judge the entire game on the easiest difficulty.

The problem isn't the challenge of the game, its the outdated nature of the games, its ageing engine, its ageing mechanics ect ect. I don't think anyone with an objective opinion will say WoW is bad. It literally is nothing special now in 2012 though, it didn't grow, it became more controlled, more refined, chizzled away at until you have a very polished load of tired routines we have done for 8 years. 8 years of rubbish balance, why didn't they take the guild wars 2 route? theyve had 3 expansions to change it up entirely. yet they insist on having a gear grind that unbalances everything in a mode that doesn't need it. No matter how hard they try (which imo, isn't very hard at all.) any kind of event looks tacky due to the age of the engine, even with enhancements. It is old. other MMOs have done things better despite not getting to that level of fame. Out of MoP or Guild Wars 2.... well, ive grown out of raiding, and GW2 screams quality and polish and is up to date, and doesnt cost me monthly. I get tired of criting for 100k+ aswell, the numbers have become ridiculous.

Ugh, hate the trailer. Too much Kung Fu Panda slapstick and not enough "dark" atmosphere that made the trailers for other expansion packs awesome. I'll probably play for a month or two until the game bores me again and I will probably hate myself for it.

They need to make a CGI movie.. Imagine a company that could put out quality games and movies with production values like Pixar. A big movie to go along with the release of an associated game would be fantastic for sales, and vice-versa; Fans of the game would be inclined to watch the movie. They'd go hand-in-hand. It's something I could see Activision-Blizzard heading towards.

Judging art is subjective, imo when you create art of some of gaming most recognized characters, I think that classifies you as being great.

Everything in entertainment is subjective. Music is subjective. You could have a guy fapping on a guitar while screaming heavy metal lyrics and some people would consider that musical art. I'm not saying Samwise is like that -- quite the opposite. He's good, and especially a good designer of all things.

There are objective ways to rate art -- even heavily stylized art. His business is illustration. This isn't fine art where anything goes, really. Even stylized art (most artists tend to stylize) has structure, value, lighting, whatever you want to call it that's taken from real life and applied to create art.

He's just not 'great.' His work isn't masterful in drawing, composition (this is the subjective, highly arguable part), or rendering. The reason he's an art director for a game studio is because he's good at designing above all else. He's not a masterful or 'great' artist. He's a great designer. He still has a ways to go before he becomes great.

MBirdy88

The problem is Blizzard believes everyone needs to experience the same content at the same time. The sense of progression is dead. There is little reason to step up the difficulty.

It's not special to us cause we've seen it from beginning to end. Someone new will likely see it as something very special though. Regardless of what you think, no other modern MMO offers all that WoW does with that much content and polish.

I've played the MoP beta and one of GW2's betas and I didn't see enough from GW2 to make me want to switch. I also do not agree with their cash shop being like any other F2P MMO's cash shop. Quality? Yeah it was pretty fun, but polish it definitely needs.

The numbers are ridiculous. They do need to be toned down. They don't mind sh!tting on old content anyway so I don't see why they don't rebalance it.

Man some of these haters are just sad. You can tell most of them have no idea what they are even talking about. The worst is the one that talking about how easy the game is now but stopped playing even before WotLK came out. As far as the trailer it looks amazing but I have to say the first cinematic trailer is still my favorite.

Really well detailed and well rendered, but not especially interesting.

Why is it that almost everyone here never mentions about its visual and animation quality?

1) You made a thread that you KNEW would spark peoples emotions and opinions. 2) Because its the same damn deal every time, we get it, blizzard does good cinematics, nobody wants to discuss it. its neither, new or interesting. Square-Enix do amazing CGI, they also do amazing ingame graphics which blizzard doesn't. Both companies are taking a bad direction in general gameplay design. you see why nobody cares about something so minor? same as their music.

Also, I don't believe that a man's opinion can sway.

.... I glorified it before release and the first few play throughs... which is all the game turned out to be. How is that even relevant? I played WoW for 6 years too, I still share the opinion that its outdated now and alot of us are sick of hearing about it.

Haha just admit that you ate up the hype.

So if I am still enjoying Diablo 3, does that mean I am retarded? Does that mean I am shallow?

Also, I don't care about WoW; only the cinematics make me dance.

The Panda in the trailer has better graphics and details than the one in your avatar. I know it hurts, but it is a truth that Blizzard's CG team kick ass.

They do a wonderful job... Now if only they could actually write.

I did eat up the hype, same with WOTLK, Cata ... but not mists of panda land, im staying well away. I also ate up the hype for starcraft 2 despite not liking that style of RTS... and low and behold I found yet another samey game riding on past success. How is that relevant though? I was wrong, welcome to someone decent enough to admit it.

I get tired of criting for 100k+ aswell, the numbers have become ridiculous.MBirdy88

Wait 100k crits?!? Really Blizzard?

I dont know about the rest of you guys, but I would argue that raising the level cap has been one of the biggest mistakes an mmo can do. It does nothing but hurt the product in the long run.

Not to mention, increasing the level cap means that devs need to spend resources on more dedundant content to get player up to the new level cap as opposed to adding new features which could help freshen up the experience.

EverQuest 2 Echoes of Faydwer did not raise the level cap at all instead we got.

Alternate levelling paths from level 1 to level cap, 2 new tradeskill professions, 2 new races, a new AA tree for every subclass, piety system, new equipment slot, commision system, expanded guild features, tweaks to improve combat and a lot more.

One of the best mmo expansions I have seen :)

Of course I can. I can overlook the fact that they had pandas doing martial arts in Warcraft 3 and say that all they did was rip off Kung Fu Panda.

My personal best game ever is the original X-com, just saying. I also rank games like Homeworld, Company of Heroes, Deus Ex and Final Fantasy Tactics as the best games I've ever played.

Just because I enjoy something funneled like Diablo 3 doesn't mean I can't enjoy deeper, more multi-faceted games.

That's akin to saying a person who enjoys Harry Potter can't enjoy Dostoevsky's or Dante's.

Getting a bit defensive of your tastes aren't you? I was mostly joking.

Although, having finished inferno, I can say Diablo 3 was mediocre but somewhat addictive at best, and infuriating in it's ineptitude at worst. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell of me ever playing it again.

[QUOTE="-Unreal-"]How did you reach this conclusion?

Vaasman

Ignoring the fact that the pandaren are an inherently silly race, all the physical jokes and the laughably vapid dialogue here are not doing them any favors. I mean that scene where the human hands the orc the spear? This is still Warcraft right? You and I both know they just did that because it would be funny, not because it made any sense.

Inherently silly in what way? The fact that they're a talking Panda? You're right, it makes no sense and doesn't belong in a game with talking cow people, rat men with candles on their heads, elephant men, tree-deer men, fish men, space goats and wolf men.

All the jokes here by the standard, typical WoW hating crowd? Yeah how is that going to change what they actually are in the lore? Anyone can say anything and it's not going to change what already is.

Seems you've completely missed the humor in the cinematic. Yes they did that because it would be funny. It also made perfect sense. The orc and human are both fighting when the pandaren comes rolling in between them and starts fighting both of them at the same time and making a fool of them. Then they're seen puffing and panting when the human hands the orc the spear. It's meant to be absurd because they wanted it to be funny. It's as if you've never played the game. It's full of humor. But oh no, don't touch the cinematics with your humor, Blizzard. Then you'll give thenonsensical WoW haters fuel.

Don't worry Unreal, I share the same opinion as you. Most people are jumping on the bandwagon with this Pandaren hate. It's no more or less silly than anything else in WoW. I mean, Have you seen some of the TERA races? They are even more ludicrous.

Here is a Popori from TERA, a fully playable race...

The entire race is built out of an April Fools joke and only made it into Blizzard games as cameo's to please the vocal pandaren fanbase. I mean hell the pandaren monk is already a goddamn WoW pet. Say what you will about the other races in the game, it won't change the fact that pandaren were a joke race and always have been until they suddenly got their own expansion.

The humor wasn't lost on me it just wasn't funny. I mean yea I smiled a bit, but I was rolling my eyes at the same time. I've seen this style of joke in a million other animate movies. Nevermind Kung Fu Panda, I can remember this kind of martial-arts-mid-fight comedy in Mulan. Maybe if you're young and don't remember those kinds of films I could see how this would seem witty and humorous.

Frankly the more I think about it, the less I enjoy the cutscene. They're wasting the talents of a brilliant animation team on some menial script and physical comedy, when they could be spending 3 minutes showing off the epic vista's and scale of the horde vs alliance conflict, or the homeland of the pandas or whatever. They could do that all wordlessly and it would be far more satisfying.

The entire race isn't built out of an April fool's joke. It was created from an April fool's joke. Blizzard put them in the game because people wanted it. Yes, you're right. I fail to see how that's a negative thing. Yes, there's a pandaren monk pet. There are small insignificant inconsistencies like this as there are in many many different things in the world. I know it completely destroys the immersion in the game's world, but us WoW players just have to live with it and take it day by day. I die a little inside every time I was playing my Pandaren Monk and saw a little Pandaren pet run past me. But I just took a deep breath and carried on.

Say what you will about the other races in the game, it won't change the fact that pandaren were a joke race and always have been until they suddenly got their own expansion.Vaasman

They were an April Fool's joke. Fighting pandas have been existing characters for years. Only now are you finding it rediculous. Yes, say what I will about the other races because it strengthens my point that your argument that the Pandaren are silly is weak.

The humor wasn't lost on me it just wasn't funny. I mean yea I smiled a bit, but I was rolling my eyes at the same time. I've seen this style of joke in a million other animate movies. Vaasman

It wasn't funny for you because you're trying to nit pick every small thing you can and make mountains out of mole hills if it helps you hate WoW more. No one said anything about wit in the humor. It was straight up simple humor. Lighthearted humor which is something you don't seem to get because you're too busy being bitter and having a negative attitude towards anything WoW related. It's hilarious that you use the argument that it wasn't original to back up your argument. Something as common as a fight scene and you say that the two enemies joining to fight someone else has been done before as a joke. Yeah, so? What's your point. Nothing is completely original anymore. You're completely grasping at straws.

Doesn't seem they wasted the talents when the vast majority of people enjoyed the cutscene. In fact, just a glance at the video's comments shows that it's mostly the regular Guild Wars crowd and WoW haters commenting on the actual game rather than the cutscene. Yes, how dare they make a humorous (regardless of how your bitterness won't allow you to see it's lighthearted humor) cutscene!

BTW they did show the homeland of the Pandaren. It's that vista you spoke about. Oh and the direction of the movie is deliberately showing the Pandaren and Pandaria because that's what the expansion (at release at least) is selling on, not the horde and alliance fighting in the water.
