You not a gamer just because you own all three systems.

That was no insult. What he said about SW is true. If you try to use logic, you won't be understood. Either your trying really hard to "own" someone, I suggest you look around SW a little harder.

a true gamer is a person who has not an alliance to any console. The winner of the next wars should not matter to a true gamer since the only thing that is important is when games are released. One of the unique qualities of a true gamer is they refuse to take part in threads like "360 owns ps3" or Ps3 owns" as it does not matter to them who has the most powerful machine.

I personally think the issue is semantic... who is allowed to define a "gamer?" Obviously, if the industry was going to define the term, it would apply broadly... a gamer is someone who plays video games. If, however, the video game community is left to define the term, they define it in ways that are exclusionary (i.e. the first post... a "gamer" is not just someone who plays video games, it is someone who plays "classic video games") Here, another problem is found. "Classic" video games, as a category, is always subjective; there is no common, set-in-stone objective list of THE classics of video gaming... unless everyone wants to use IGN's best-of list, but nobody would do that because that means tepidly agreeing to the list without objection. No matter which way you cut it, it's best to consider anyone who plays video games as a "gamer." a "Hardcore" gamer, on the other hand... well, you can be the judge of that... you know, individuals that conform to your own standards you set for yourself regarding games. Another unreasonable expectation. I think a better idea would be to say "Listen, don't judge your own credibility based upon your capacity to own all three NG systems. Doing so just makes you look like a dick." [/devil's advocate]

If you make the statement - "I will never buy a 360" then that likely suggest that you are not a "true" gamer.  There are quality games on all systems, and if you intentionally miss out on them because of your overriding fanboy delusions, than I don't think you can really call yourself a true gamer.

No, owning someone is a childish thing to do. I only joke with it. Calling my thinking silly is a insult. I even will defend the fanboys if the truth backs them up. Radical Fanboys are gamers. It's like saying a Radical Muslim is not a religous person...

So someone that doesn't agree with you is an insult then? Wow.

That's right, I said it. You're no better than anybody else. Don't act high and mighty calling yourself a gamer because you own all consoles. That doesn't define a gamer. I have a Wii and a PS3, but will never buy a 360. Does that not make me a gamer. NO!!!! So, you manticores stop putting the idea of a true gamer is someone with all consoles. Gamers are the ones who appreciates value in ALL Games not ALL consoles.shungokustasu

You say that Gamers are the ones who appreciates value in ALL Games...

Yet you relentlessly bash shooters and many other games on the Xbox 360...

And you have the right to define what a "true gamer" is? :?

Well you can't enjoy the "value" in "ALL" games if you don't own all systrems. Don't hate what you don't own. You can't play LP or Halo or Mass Effect. So, "GAMER", explain that.

Wow...so you have to buy something to appreciates it's value? I'm glad the painting of the sixteen chapel is in everyone's home...

"Sixteen Chapel"? Is that anywhere near the Sistine Chapel? Perhaps Leonardo Kazinski painted its ceiling?

No that was not my point. You stated that true gamers enjoy the value in all games not all syatems. Well the flawed logic behind this is that without all the sytems, you can't enjoy all the games. I listed three games that you don't have to like, but as a gamer that enjoys "all" games, you can;t play these. Why? You don't have a 360. Stay on point next time.

There is no flaw in my logic. The Sixteen chapel is the prime example. I don't have to have the painting in my house to know what it's good for painting. Same with the "Art of Gaming". I don't like FPS, but I can understand the the depth it brought to gaming. Your logic is saying that I have to play every game in order to appreciate it's worth. If that's the case, then we all are not gamers.

Dude.... it's SISTINE Chapel.

No - you said a true gamer finds values in ALL games not systems.  Yet you purposelly deny yourself access to a third of the exclusive titles (games) for next gen based on your prejudice.  You are in conflict with your own logic.  I think a true gamer would like to have access to all great titles.  Currently the 360 has the best game library - yet you have no access to any of that.

No, it's not really. Saying someone's idea is silly is not an insult nor a smallest kind of insult at all. Believe me, I've had a lot of insults thrown my way because of what I am.

But if someone disagreeing with you equals an insult... then thats your problem. Not mine.

Everyone who plays games and comes on the gamespot message boards is a gamer. Even if all they have is a gamboy, they are a gamer just because games are a bigger part of their life then most people. People who own multiple systems are gamers that have more options in the games they play.

My point isn't that you have to own every system out there.  It has more to do with the reasoning.  If you say I don't want a wii because I'm a diehard sony fanboy, then I don't consider you a true gamer.  That's someone who is willing to either overlook a ton of quality titles just because of their prejudices.  How can they then be considered to be a true gamer?

No you don't understand my logic. I can appreciate what GeoW did for gaming. Therefore that makes me a gamer. I don't need to play and beat the game to find that out. Your logic is saying I must play ALL games to be a true gamer. That mean no one is a true gamer.

[QUOTE="shungokustasu"]That's right, I said it.

That is true. They are very useless to me. So a gamer now have to like every genre?

I didn't say that. All I did was point out a contradiction in your own statement.

Since you say gamers need to appreciate value in all games, how can you call yourself a gamer when you don't appreciate the value in First Person Shooters? You don't even fit into your own definition of a true gamer.

I also had some issues with the "I have a Wii and a PS3, but will never buy a 360" statement, since that just makes you seem like all the other PSWii fanboys running around here that bash the Xbox 360 and get mad when people say they aren't true gamers.

Am I saying you have to own all three consoles to be a ture gamer? No. Because not everyone has the means to do that. I am saying that your definition is true, and that you need to appreciate the value in all games and all genres. Like them or not. I don't necessarily like JRPG's but you don't see me running around here saying that they're "The worst genre" or that they suck becuase I know that even though I don't necessarily like some of them, they are still great games.

My point isn't that you have to own every system out there.  It has more to do with the reasoning.  If you say I don't want a wii because I'm a diehard sony fanboy, then I don't consider you a true gamer.  That's someone who is willing to either overlook a ton of quality titles just because of their prejudices.  How can they then be considered to be a true gamer?

sonicare
Right, this is where I was going with this. I'll agree that if you refuse to buy.. say an Xbox 360 because it isn't Sony, then you shouldn't consider yourself a gamer. BUT, if you choose to not buy it because there is a viable alternative, such as the PS3, then that is fine. As long as your reasoning for not purchasing is purely based on the creator of the video game console, then it is anti-gamer in my eyes. The question you should be asking shungokustasu is: Would he have purchased a 360 if the PS3 didn't exist? Does he not buy the 360 because MS is fighting with Sony. These sorts of things. I think that shungo uses a more direct form of speaking than most are used to, and it makes it hard to see his reasoning because of that.

Good question. The reason of not buying a Xbox360? Simple. It speacialize in a genre I do not care for. Sure their other games on it. But not enough to warrant a purchase. I think Blue Dragon, Lost Odessey, Eternal Sonata, will be great games. But I can appreciate those games without having to buy them. Xbox360 is a very very very great system. I don't hate MS or it's system. I just disagree with the direction it is taking it.

If you make the statement - "I will never buy a 360" then that likely suggest that you are not a "true" gamer.  There are quality games on all systems, and if you intentionally miss out on them because of your overriding fanboy delusions, than I don't think you can really call yourself a true gamer.

shungokustasu

I'm not a gamer because I don't have a Xbox360? Is that what you saying?

No - you said a true gamer finds values in ALL games not systems.  Yet you purposelly deny yourself access to a third of the exclusive titles (games) for next gen based on your prejudice.  You are in conflict with your own logic.  I think a true gamer would like to have access to all great titles.  Currently the 360 has the best game library - yet you have no access to any of that.

No you don't understand my logic. I can appreciate what GeoW did for gaming. Therefore that makes me a gamer. I don't need to play and beat the game to find that out. Your logic is saying I must play ALL games to be a true gamer. That mean no one is a true gamer.

Then you misunderstand me.  My point is simply this.  You made the statement that "I will never buy a 360" - so regardless of the quality of the game library or number of excpetional games that come out for it in the future, you've already decided that you won't get one or want one.  How can you call yourself a true gamer with that attitude?  You certainly don't need to play every game - not every style appeals to every person nor it is possible for most people to afford that habit.  However, if you simply deny yourself access to those games because of your own prejudices, that's not something a true gamer would do.  Currently, I have absolutely no desire to get a ps3.  It's game library is horrible and its overpriced for a gaming console.  However, in the future, I'm sure it will have titles that appeal to me.  So I won't make a statement that " I will never get a ps3".

If you are insane enough to make a dumb thread like this then you are definetly not a gamer, and dismissing the 360 because you think its not worth it just shows how right I am.

I'm not here to be proving right or wrong. I'm here to show you the truth.

I see. I would buy a Xbox360 if the direction change. I don't see that happening since Shooters are their bread winning genre. This why I said I would never by that system. However, if they do change I would buy it.

And here I thought we just played games to our preference. Now to the argument on you have to play the games, I currently only own the Wii. However that doesn't mean I can't just go to a friends and try other games. I may not own them but I at least gave it a try. Someone doesn't have to enjoy the game to see why others like it. Me for example, I'm not a big RPG fan but I will play them with a freind on occasions. I don't like racers much either but should I label someone not a gamer because they don't like what I do? No. The entire argument is flawed because there is no definition to a "true" gamer.

There. Win. The current business is wrong. If they keep up with JRPGs, and maybe get a few more odd titles like Viva Pinata, I'll probably get one too.

No, that's the easiest and truest definition.
