Pre Absolution, Hitman utilizes a great deal of many settings, in a small sandbox with "make your own story" scenarios per-subcribed by the developers hand.
Being "naughty", is a very appealing aspect, however hard the game attempts justify and portray 47 as a hero, it tends to always feel like you are a loner on the outskirts of society about to commit a heinous crime on the masses, it's orchestrated nihilistic escapism. Very few games actually allow you in any sophisticated manner to actively play a villain.
While many modern games attempt to replicate a cinematic experience, particularly EA games and Sony games, they tend to actually forget that games are suppose to be fun, giving overly scripted, QTE poe faced attempts at a Hollywood experience. Hitman never forgets it's a game first and foremost, primarily using the setting and music to deliver a cinematic atmosphere.
Some of the maps themselves are very memorable, "The Meat King" in particular is exceptional.
Overall, 5 cheese burgers.
