You think the game is bad, but you buy it/keep it anyway?

Does anyone ever feel like they have to like a game, or own the game, due to critical acclaim or popularity?

For instance, I owned I Oblivion and just could not get into the game. But I felt that I had to keep it because it was a popular title.

I know a lot of people who just buy games because of critical acclaim, despite the fact that they hate the game. Many people feel that they have to like a certain game in order to feel like a "true" gamer.

Is my thread just retarted, or does anyone else see this, or do this?

Nope I don't think so. If I don't like a game, I'm going to get rid of it.

That has only happened to me one time. It was with GTA:SA. I just got so bored with it so I traded it in for shadow of the colossus.

I'm kinda draggin my feet along in FFXII (been at the same point for about a month now w/o playing).  But i love the series so much (even if this isn't my favorite of the series) that I'll eventually beat it.

Not retarded at all man,

I do this too, you see, I liked NFSIII:HP back in '98.  And since then I bought every NFS game.  When NFS:HP 2 came out I thought everying was only getting better.  But ever since Underground came out, all NFS games have gone consistently downhill.  I bought every one and held on to them just because I felt an obligation to "Black BOX" games.  After I rented NFS carbon for 360, I officially quit NFS altogether.  It was that bad.  I might get oblivion for PS3 though just because of the review it got.

I'm sorry! I just don't get it! I bought it, collector's edition and all, and it just sits there: mocking, mocking, mocking!

I think it's funny that a lot of people are putting GeoW.  I was dragging my feet to get into it and play it also.  I just beat it like 2 days ago After starting it maybe a week and a half ago (I also bought the Collector's Edition when it was released and played some online is all).  I thought I was the only one who didn't get into it instantly.

Yeah I've end up buying games because of a good reviews and end up hating them. Doesn't happen much any more since I realized scores are completely meaningless to the actual game quality and multiplats are almost never good.

I bought Halo 2 and Fable because of hype and great critical acclaim...and sold the both back to the store only a few days later because they both were complete dissapointments.

I don't buy crap. Some of my games may not be AAA to anyone but me, but I love em. I'm the type of person who can play a game for years, so I'm very conscientious about my purchases. I may only make 4-6 purchases a year, but some of those games I'm still playing years later like IL2:Sturmovik, Alpha Centauri, Shogun: Total War (along with the newer TW games), Jedi Knight II, Morrowind and so on. If I spend less than 100 hours on a game, I've wasted my money. The last game I ditched was Trespasser...oh, the humanity.

I rented most of the games, bought about 4 in total( Gears or War / Lost Planet is one of them). Sold all of them within a week or a month because it either sucked or lack replay value.

I still haven't played my copy of GRAW that came with my 360 mainly because for some reason, my 360 can't read it yet I keep it because I hope one day I'll be able to play it.
