Well, I honestly own very few original games on my Wii / PS3, and out of them my favourite is Rock Band, if I can say that.

Although, if I had a 360, I would say Mass Effect, I tried it at my friends and I didn't want to leave his house until I beat it :(

Bioshock is a spiritual sequel to System Shock 2.

1. No More Heroes

2. Portal

3. BioShock

What's weird is that No More Heroes is my 20th favorite game of all time. Portal is number 21. BioShock is number 22. Heh...

But yeah, I'll go with that list. There have been some damn good new IPs, despite BioShock being rather disappointing.

That's what I was thinking coming into this thread. But when I think about it, it bears none of the "spin-off" signs in that it has the same characters, relies on its stem series for popularity, borrows gameplay from said stem series. While it is set in the same universe and will undoubtedly be very connected story wise in episode 3 these relationships take a very back seat in portal to the point at which, beyond the odd references in slideshows and a single line in the end song, the half life series isnt even mentioned at all.

The game gains its merits by being Portal and not Half Life presents: Portal. I guess technically its a spin-off but I would go more for the spiritual spin-off term in the same way as bioshock.
