I enjoy achievements as a fun bonus in games but never go out of my way just to get them.

[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="navyguy21"] Come on, be fair now, some trophies are lame too, like this one i got for killzone 2 - Popcorn Ribbon (Bronze): Watch all Killzone 2 cut scenes. :lol:I don't think there's a popcorn ribbon trophy for KZ2. it was a joke... It would have been funnier if he said that about MGS4 and IF MGS4 had trophies :\ because the cutscenes in KZ2 are at max 2 minutes or so :\ I figured. And I actually thought about MGS4 . So fitting.Giancar
I wish there was a universal achievement/trophy system across all platforms (actually I'd prefer Sony's Trophy system which is even more addicitive then Achievement points because you can level up the way you can at gamespot and also because of the different tiers of trophies including the all impressive platinum trophies). I know it would never happen, but I would love being able to play the best games for each system (and PC) and having all of my successes and accomplishments recording in one place. I mean, there's people that only play one system and thus have very high point/trophy totals and it sucks that someone looks at them and then someone looks at another player with less points and you would think that player might be less of a gamer which in actuallity the player might be someone who likes to play the best games regardless of what platform it is on.

Your right lol, i suprised i didnt think about it lol, then again, its been a while since a played it, ive been focusing on Uncharted, and Killzone 2 trophies lately, now i have MORE work to do since i found out about the hidden ones, but i dont really mind, Killzone 2 is great, i hope sales pick up, GG deserve better, why didnt sony advertise more?? :([QUOTE="Giancar"][QUOTE="Episode_Eve"] I don't think there's a popcorn ribbon trophy for KZ2.Episode_Eve
wat happens when you reach level 99
with your 10,000 broze trophies, 5 silvers, 3 golds and 0 platinums
The way that Squirrel talks is so annoying.Came across this funny video and it got me thinking......
So now that Microsoft has started achievements, and has been thinking about awarding gamers "achievement points" for completing certain tasks outside of games, and other companies like Sony and Valve's Steam have jumped on the bandwagon with "trophies" and such, what's everyone's opinion on achievements or trophies in games? Do they make them better or add replay value to it? Do they irritate you when you work so hard to get them and the reward is so little??

Got nothing against them, as they are a fun mean to an ends. I think they do add some replay to a game and are sometime a fun way to add some value to a game but they are not the end all be all of games. Take my gamerscore for example. It doesn't reflect the Wii games I play, the DS games I play or the PS2 games I play. Even then, some Xbox games have harder achievements so there really is not way to compare. In other words, I don't like the notion of playing just for achievements. Play for fun. Take Guitar Hero 3. Horrible achievements. Fun game. Don't let that stop you from enjoying that fun game. Still they are fun, and I think they were neat invention on Microsoft's end. Kudos to them.
I don't care about achievements that you get playing the game normally like "you beat the game or something like that" That is something that I would do regardless of whether or not the achievement existed. I like the achievements that require you to do something awesome like "blow up 20 zombies with a single pipe bomb" in Left 4 Dead.
Oh, and I think achievement whoring is dumb. I don't understand why anyone would play a game they don't like, or do something in a game that is unfun just to get a higher gamer score.
I enjoy trophies alot and to some extent steam achievements (wish there was a unified system), they add replay value to a game and add things to strive for even if they are artificial.
And some of them show some talent that you have as a gamer, but the video has a point. Some are just stupid and don't need to be there. While others are just silly stupid hard.
But overall I like them and at the end of the day they really don't affect the gameplay at all because they don't (usually) change anything about the game or make it more or less fun.
They're pretty fun to get. Although I hate stupid achievements like "Do something a 1000 times" or "Play for 1 week straight."
A complete waste of time, playing a game over and over just to get a achievement is such a waste of time, if the game is good it doesn't need achievements to make you play it over and over. All they do is give you bragging rights with your mates. imprezawrx500
A lot of people find it fun getting achievements/trophies.

The points aren't the - er - point. It's really just to give you a sense that you officially accomplished something (something useless, but something, anyway), which I think is worth the effort.i agree though part of me would like to go back to the time without them
they make OCD people go nuts
they are good though for showing you everything a game has to offer, maybe some secret stuff or abilities you may have missed otherwise
for your 40G or bronze trophy which is supposed to feel like an accomplishment lulz

But it doesn't make me feel like I've accomplished anything. Some do, such as Left 4 Dead's kill 53635 zombies achievement, but then there are others that are extremely easy to get and are far more prevalent. Resident Evil 5's 'Complete Chapter 1-1', for example. It's not an accomplishment if 100% of the people who play the game get the same achievement.I thank you so very very much for that link, it was full of so much win, I think I have enough win to carry me over until wednesday.Came across this funny video and it got me thinking......

I've said that I don't like easy achievements that you get during the course of the game, like for completing a level. Those are lazy. I prefer achievements that you either have to go out of your way for (like finding easter eggs or collectibles), or are just really hard to get.[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"][QUOTE="BobSacamento"]
