No thanks we got enough boring WRPGs.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Why can'twe enjoy both? I own a huge collection of RPGs (both WRPG's and JRPG's). I know I'll be enjoying both FFXIII and Mass Effect 2 over the next few months.hope it flops.

So you need one game to flop in order to enjoy another?
Who doesn't want to save the world? I want to save the world.Meh, the whole series is about saving the world. And y'know, only jRPGs have stories like those.

You should play SMT: Nocturne then. :P
[QUOTE="enterawesome"]I like Final Fantasy, I see it as the Mario of RPGs. Everyone who likes RPGs will like at least one Final Fantasy.EasyleI like RPG's and I dislike Final Fantasy. The SNES ones were good. Play the PSP version of Tactics if you can The PSP version a far better translation than the PSX version.
Final Fantasy 10 was cool as ice. I could care less for everything else though. Since its like, they aren't sequels so you cant usually get attached to characters and see them flourish throughout a series. I could play the entire series totally for Auron. What other FF is he in?
Having just beat FFX for the first time in 8 years, whoever wrote this game needs to write FFXV. Brilliant.
I have to disagree about FFX's story being (to each his own)but I wouldn't mind Nojima writing again as long as it isn't like FFX. I loved the story in FFVIII (besides a couple of things).Having just beat FFX for the first time in 8 years, whoever wrote this game needs to write FFXV. Brilliant.

I can't say it was poorly written. But I found it to be boring and I couldn't find anything good abouut it and the characters didn't help. I did enjoy the ending, Auron, Lulu and Tidus's father (his name slips my mind ATM).[QUOTE="hakanakumono"]

How realistic Yuna was as a character and what a good job they did at portraying her emotions and thoughts without her going and saying everything that she was thinking.
How profound Yuna was as a character to be willing to throw her life away to give the people 15 years of peace.
How the game handled religion: why religion takes root, how religion takes root, and how religion operates in the minds of people.
How attention was put on each character so that every character was important and had some sort of struggle in the game.
How it didn't try to BS a hollywood ending with Tidus, and had a lot of emotional depth overall.
How unique a lot of the ideas that held the story together were. The "summoning" that tied all of the story together created one of the most unique JRPG premises' ever: SPOILERS A man who dreams a dream to preserve a city, destroying the world in the dream's wake. And the dream he dreams fals in love with the destroyed world and turns to destroy him instead.
The spiral of death
I love it. It just shot up to my favorite Final Fantasy story, just above FFVIII.

I might give it another try I still own my copy (it's been a while). Maybe it isn't as bad as I think it is. But it will be a while before I give it another go though. My back catalog is way to big as is and I'm busy with school and work ATM.It is a great series that have pretty much run it course personally for me. Yeah there are some great moments but there just isn't much improvement in terms of the wow factor to warrant a great game that I was used to seeing in the early era. Anyway I will be giving Final Fantasy XIII a chance and see where it can go.
well final fantasy is the main course for me, i consider most games apetizers until a new final fantasy arrives.
I liked most of them.
My favorites being FF IV, VI, VII, VIII, X, and X-2.Seeing as the cores from these teams are making Final Fantasy XIII, im probably gonna like that one too along with Versus XIII.
My least favorites: FF IX and FF XII.
Oh and why, Probably because the production and artistic values and second to none. Every world is beautifully crafted and a pleasure to explore. Something other JRPGs just don't do, although Tales of Vesperia is close up their

Is it really? When I played Symphonia it felt like a high quality game with a story that just borrowed a lot of ideas from other games with a bland presentation.

You don't need to defend the game because you like it. Admit that they could use a change in plot.

"Saving the world" is too broad a generalization to label them as all the same. Yes there is generally something that threatens the whole world and yes the heroes always get involved in preventing that. But the scenarios themselves are actually pretty varied.

Yeah. For example, Final Fantasy IV involves a knight who betrays his king when he finds that what he's done is deplorable. Final Fantasy X involves a giant space whale that kills people and there's a vicious cycle involving a religious rite. I think the stories are pretty varied.[QUOTE="hakanakumono"][QUOTE="OB-47"]

To be fair, I've never played IV. But oh, how I want to. The ESRB has given a rating to a Virtual Console version, so that's on the way. Already out in Japan.[QUOTE="hayato_"]

Tales of Vesperia is realy well directed. The combat is solid, story solid, extras solid etc. Its "great" as gamespot gave it an 8.5[QUOTE="Tauu"]
The FF series was superb until after 7. It's been brand milkage ever since.

Except all of the post 7 entries have been praised as excellent games by critics.
Don't even bother. If you think FFI on the NES is better than FFIX on the PS1 you have a problem.

Okay, I guess I was not looking at it properly.
I hate Final Fantasy more than any other franchise ever made.
I don't understand how people like them. There are like 500 games, all having different characters in almost everyone, and they are soooo boring.
In my opinion...
I love it, and I really can't see why anyone would say that it needs to end, as the games themselves have pretty much nothing to do with each other.
My favorite in the series would probably be VIII, but I can honestly say that I have not played a main installment FF that I have not liked.

There's reasonable opinion and then there's just exaggeration.
While I respect your opinion either way, have you played any FF all the way through?
