SPOILERS, MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR FOLLOWING GAMES: Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, Grand Theft Auto IV, Far Cry 2.
RDR was incredibly sad at the end, but no matter what the ending couldn't have been complete without John dying. It was heavily foreshadowed and riding off into the sunset after all that sacrifice would have been too easy.
Even with everything perfect on HR, the death of Ethan's first child Jason and Shelby's brother were incredibly hard to watch for me.
GTA IV had you playing as a bad person with a bit of good left in him, so his actions in contrast to John Marston's actions made me feel less sympathy for him (since he himself claims he had it coming and because of all the pain his friends endured at his hands earlier). But still, havin Niko's girlfirned (or alternatively, Roman) die was tragic and unexpected for a series that usually ends with you almost literally owning most property in whatever city you are in and with tons of cash and assets.
Finally, FC2's was sad simply because of the chilling deaths your allies had if you couldn't save them. They plead for mercy and thank you if you can expend your medicine (or alternatively beg you to "make it quick" or not abandon them). In the end, the fact that you could have prevented their deaths make it all the more horrible to think, especially when they are each given interesting backstories that make them feel authentic and human instead of your average red shirt cannon fodder dead allies.
I'll go with the end of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. Beautiful.Head_of_games
Was afraid I was going to have to be the guy to say this. Also props to the story of the old guy in the second
When I accidently overwrote my Oblivion file that had over 300 hours of gameplay.....I had dont just about everything. The Main quest, all the guilds, maxed out my character, finished every sidequest I came across (even the nirnroot quest), Shivering Isles, Nights of the Nine, seriously almost everything. When I realized what I did..I wanted to cry.
The saddest moments? LittleBigPlanet. I was trying to ace the very last level for the gold trophy (the last trophy till the platinum) and after literally 30 tries, I was extremely close to the end. To ace a level; you need to go through it without dying even once. I was on the conveyor belt, having passed the hard part out of luck, and I could see the end of the level checkpoint up ahead, I got excited, jumped carelessly to get once a platform, got electrocuted. And died. I broke my controller that day :( I got a new one and got a trophy though, so all was good :D I was sad because the guilt was building inside of me, saying "It's just one trophy till the platinum, you can do it, GET THE PLATINUM, don't be p*ssy, GET THE PLATINUM". I am not going through that again with LittleBigPlanet 2, god no. My trophy hunting days are over.
The endings of Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts and FFX, and the second play-through of NieR were sad. There were also some parts near the end of Persona 4 that I found depressing; the bad ending was....well pretty bad.
However, my saddest moment has to be Yakuza 3 when...
Rikiya died.

I really haven't found any particularly sad moments in video games yet. mrmusicman247
Same. Some people consider Shadow of the Colosssus ending sad. I didn't really.
EDIT: Forgot about RDR.
Yeah, it's not sad, but it makes you think. That's why I love it so much. The only ending that comes to mind for me that was a bit depressing was the ending to HL2: Episode 2.Stevo_the_gamerI was heart broken when alyx was impaled near the beginning. I thought she was dead. That was a way sadder moment for me.
Having my 360 Red Ring, again, without being able to finish a few games------namely HALO REACH. WTF MS, seriously.
probably onimusha 4, i can't remember what it was called, not 4, but the ending was really goodsavagetwinkieDawn of dreams ! i loved that game. In the end Soki became the god of darkness. That series needs to come back.
The ending of Braid.
The ending of Tales of the Abyss.
Those are the only moments in video games that made me tear up a little bit.
The ending of Braid was depressing when you found out who you were really playing as the whole time.
The ending of Tales of the Abyss wasn't depressing,
it was touching I guess when you see Luke emerge from the ruins a year later so he could keep his promise he made to Tear.
I don't really understand all the companion cube love, you use it for like 15min
On Topic: Choosing who to save on Mass Effect sucked, and RDR ending -_-
Playing the Kingdom Hearts series, not that they're sad, but that its depressing that life is so boring and I wish it was like it was in KH.
I cant think of anything off the top of my head, but I saw someone mention Majoras Mask & the sequence where the moon hits the earth....when I was younger I felt queesy. :(

I dont know why, it has nothing to do with your comment but when I read it I was instantly reminded of the Pikmin bad ending.
[spoilers I guess]
when you fail the day limit you helplessly get into your ship and pathetically fall back to the planet crashing as your dead body is carried off by the pikmin you are then planted and picked as a pikmin.
Me and my friend were just flabbergasted watching that.
Jade's monologue with her dog after the government attacks her light house orphanage in Beyond Good and Evil.
Also the beauty and brilliance of Wind Waker has hit me hard. Almost no one realizes how much of a piece of art that game as a whole is (story, setting mechanics, title, graphics... everything has a purpose in conveying it's powerful message)
I'll just throw NIER in here. LIMBO as well depending on your interpretation. Can't think of many more off the top of my head. Majora's Mask if a certain theory is correct, maybe.
having to euthanize my Weighted Companion Cube :cry:...........................

R.I.P.
Also the end of Majora's Mask. It was a bit corny but Skull Kid's whole discussion of friends and such was touching when you see how innocent he was. Combine the emotion with the amazing music that always accompanies Zelda, and it was fantastic.
In final fantasy IV where almost all of the characters die that help you.
Borderlands where T.K. Baha was killed...(Seriously that man had quotes of epic porportions lol)

I hated Acing that level, but when I finally Aced it I felt so satisfied. Being the cheat I am, just before I finished the level, I turned on everyone else's controllers so they wouldnt have to endure that level as well.
Difficulty is subjective, but i will tell you that LBP2 is much easier to ace than Little Big Planet 1. I did have a few problems caused by bugs however. But all I am telling you is, give it a shot :)
