They're ok I guess. The DS is great while the Wii isn't in the same league IMO, but it still has great games on it. Trying to appeal to many who don't play games can be a good or bad thing.

commercailly successful , and i am impressed ,,
so impressed i have to get a wii 2 day one ,,
i dont give a bout that 720 -the problems im facing with 360 every 6 months speak for it self
and i do doubt sonys effort to ever try anything original that doesnt consist of different mediums, thats good and all but what different does that do if 3rd party port 360 games to it lol ,
exactly how does bluray besides not scratching help the actual experience, movies look cleareer yes but the games ive seen dont look any clearer then they do on the wii /360 etc
face it , nintendo did somthing successful ,
you cant deny it
dont give me an excuse , nintendo is like the john cena of this industry , ,
they may lose some but in the end , they end up top ,,
while sony and ms fight for position right now ,
-yes sony may be seeing strong sales now but watch a few months down the road
itll be back to normal just watch
, but any way while all this is going on , nintendo is capitalizing on everything else possible to stay on top

[QUOTE="vdastampede"][QUOTE="tok1879"] Scary to imagine what the final destination looks like.tok1879For you, perhaps. To those of us who like a new and different step forward into the gaming world, not really. For those of us who are actually pleased to the the gaming audience expand because we realize all the good it'll do for us in the long run, not really. For those of us who don't want to see a whole game library of hardly anything but FPS, not really. What good for who? What are you talking about? Why do you guys always want to hide behind FPS's? Nintendo hasn't given you a new and different step forward, they've given you a recycled game console with the illusion of a new way to input which is really nothing more than clunky controls. Do you ever wonder why you still NEED a classic controller with the Wii? Wasn't this "revolution" supposed to cover all the basis, rendering our controllers as a thing of the past? Wake up. I shutter to think that games like "Wii Music" is the future of gaming. Thank God for Playstation and M$, for without them, i would have given up my hobby as a thing for children just as i have some shows and cartoons that i truly enjoyed as a child. Wheather you realize it or not, the Wii is doing more good than harm for everyone.
Because of the Wii, we now have more different types of gamers than ever before including children, parents, grandparents, and females (and despite popular belief on this forum, many experienced gamers still love and play their Wiis. Just so you don't start on that usual "casual" crap). And somewhere along the line, the "hardcore gamers" decided this is a bad thing. It isn't. If nothing else, the Wii is certainly helping us in the fight against the lying politicians, the unknowlegable parent, or the extremely religious who state video games are wastes of time and rot your brains and can even cause kids to murder and be violent. It's getting more difficult to argue against this claim when you have shallow twits spewing racist remarks all over Live, bullying little kids to the point of tears, and taunting unexperienced players for not clocking in 3/4ths of their weekend trying to master some new FPS like he did. But when a parent who has played and enjoyed the Wii sees a Jack Thompson on TV saying how video games are murder simulators and cause terrorist attacks and make children become violent you think that parent is going to likely to jump on board no questions asked rather than a parent with no video game experience at all? Course not because he/she have their own experience behind them now. As a result, we have less concerned parents and press pointing the finger at a scapegoat for why some emo, Twilight dressing, scab decided to go to school and kill.
Another good thing: keeps the video game industry stable. I'm sure this is something that'll go way over the head of someone like yourself, but the hard truth is the more broad your video game audience is, the steadier you're keeping the industry. If there ever comes a time where we could go through a "video game depression" (not saying it's gonna happen anytime soon, but it can indeed happen) and video games are no longer a profitable buisness for companies, you think MS and Sony are going to stick around? Course not. Video games is only a small branch they can cut out before profits get too low, but Nintendo's whole exsistance stands on the industry of video games. Which is why they need to think of ways for gaming to be fresh, interesting, and fun. And just because you believe the Wii to be a...what was it...recycled game console with the illusion of a new way to input which is really nothing more than clunky controls? Well over 54.5 million Wii owners disagree and are enjoying it for its new, fresh take on gaming which was the purpose Nintendo created it for. And, just my opinion here, it's a much better marketing strategy than MS and Sony who go through the repetitive strategy of giving us the exact same thing as last gen but cramming in as much of the latest and newest technology they can manage.
Finally, what's the most hilarious is how you accuse me of hiding behind FPSs (a genre that holds 80% of the Sony/MS gaming library and usually sell somewhere between decent and well) and then take the exact same approach and act as though Wii Music (one Nintendo game out of many that sold poorly) is the true ideal of what Nintendo wants the future of gaming to be. The reason I brought up FPSs in the first place is because many of us are not interested in yet another gun game and are not interested in spending as many hours we can manage mastering the online.
In short, you missed the point completely. The Wii is not the beginning of all things Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Music, and shovelware like you imply. Nintendo has not given up on the entire gaming community minus those interested in it as a childrens hobby like you imply.

LOL WIN.
Anyway, personally, I think Nintendo has fallen quite far from what they used to be.
The Wii is by far, their worst console ever. Its terrible.
-A relatively bad library
-Absolutely crap online services
-Terrible hardware choices for its time frame
-A control system that usually, only nintendo itself implements properly. And with that I hardly see any great games from them this gen with the exception of SMG and smash brothers... instead, they keep mass producing the most "Do not want" games for their true fans.
-Their marketing is embarrassing, especially at E3.
-Their market is over saturated by casuals...the few hardcore games on it hardly sell.
Nintendo's NES-N64 days are done. Its purely all in the money now.
They're still good, but I think they're losing it by primarily focusing on Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.nintendoboy16I would love to see Star Fox and F-Zero, those 3 games you listed are coming out with sequels next year, though I doubt Zelda Wii would make it to 2010, I could be wrong.
I'm more of a handheld guy. So with the DS they have more than done great. Though console wise it isn't so great. :/

i camped for a wii, and i regret that day. i had a wii, played it once a month. i had all the good games like metroid, zelda, ssbb, etc, but in the end, it failed me.
That's why i sold it for a ps3. Best. Decision. Ever.
Nintendo has failed. okay great sales? I dont care. I am a hardcore gamer, i want fun fast online, not crappy online. i want cinematic moments, not waggle. I hate nintendo now. Great IPs, but so many crappy games.

i had most of those. wasted so much money. Super paper mario was better as a turn based rpg. metroid gets boring, but its good, ssbb only fun with friends. not worth it.
The Nintendo DS is great. The Wii, while commercially successful, just isn't up to standards with the PS3 and 360. If the hardware isn't up to standards with the competition, then the next best thing it should have then is a strong library of games. While there are some notable games worthwhile on the Wii, the library just isn't strong enough to hold the attention span for most serious gamers.
For me, personally, I have lost most of my interest in my Wii over the years simply because I've grown tired of waiting for the next "Big game" that Nintendo seems to always promise promise... The next big thing is always something that I find more of a turnoff... Animal Crossing: City Folk, New Super Mario Bros. Wii... I just want something fresh and new, but that never seems to happen anymore. I am definitely interested in Metroid: Other M, though. I'm hoping that game will convince me to actually buy another Wii game again.

If i compare UC2, which ive been addicted to since launch, to any game i had on the wii, the wii would lose. im a man who wants the most out of his money. 8 hours isn't enough. i want a game that provides more and more. Wii does not. IMO
theres nothing for me on the wii . motion control are imprecise thats why they create wii motion plus .if this is not milking i dont know what it is . wii is too week to run all the great multiplats of this gen .online is lakluster to say the least . thats what i think.legol1
So, you think that motion controls are imprecise, yet your avatar is from Halo. You do understand that Halo has heavey aim-assit and auto-aim, right?
How can you consider dual-analogs to be precise when they are, in fact, so imprecise that they require the CPU to fine-tune your aim?
Playing a FPS with aim-assist is like riding a bike with training wheels. Sure, it works, but it really is rather embarrassing.
Maybe you weren't aware of the heavy-aim assist that exists in ALL of the Halo games. If so, then I will accept your thank you for my enlightening revelation and you are welcome.

Early 2008 I was determined to have sold the console till the end of the year.
Then DeBlob and World of Goo started what would become months and months of great releases, and its getting better by the day.
I have since played some 40 Wii titles and I play the Wii as much as I play my 360. Started A Boy And His Blob and Dead Space: Extraction recently. Both are just fantastic games.

I'm glad I didn't buy a Wii. VERY glad. Nintendo has disappointed me to a ridiculous amount this gen, and I hope they fail hard because they're taking gaming in a horribly wrong direction.Messiahbolical-
i think tey're taking gaming in a better direction. did you know that the wii has doubled the amount of people playing games?thought so
tok1879:
First of all, there is nothing wrong with enjoying toys designed primarily to entertain children. If you like it and you buy it with your own money, who the hell cares, right? I still like to play with GI Joes from time to time. My wife thinks it's adorable, and hers is the only opinion that counts.
Secondly, the Wii is built for families - that is, adultgamers who have families. That would be people like me. There is a fair amount of content on the platform made for older gamers, which is why Nintendo and third party software made for older gamers are hosted on the Wii. I am talking, of course, of games like Wii Fit and EA Sports Active.
Finally, the Wiimote is not meant to be the sole controller option for Wii gaming. I kind of thought that the Balance Board being around sort of cemented that concept. Just as games on other platforms do not use every button on the controller, or every single feature, not every game made for the Wii should force itself to use every Wii control aspect, particularly if it doesn't work all that well.
Do you have a Wii? I don't believe you really understand what the platform is for.
roxlimn
I'm sure there's nothing wrong with grown men playing with GI Joes. There's also nothing wrong with grown men playing dress up in female lingerie. It's just not normal. People have different interests. Kids love cartoons and toys. Kids grow up and outgrow such things and move onto more adult-oriented entertainment, things that probably wouldn't have entertained them when they were younger. Some however don't outgrow them. There's nothing wrong with these different sets of people, they're just into different things.
I understand how the Wii can bring a family together with its motion controls, but i believe the Wii could have been more inclusive from the start. If it had enough power and wasn't such an obvious cash-in as it is, it would have been able to run more adult-oriented games like its peers. But like they always say, this console was Nintendo's saving grace and i believe it has done what it was supposed to do for Nintendo. But for these same people to look you dead in the eye and claim that Nintendo's console is a serious contender capable of satisfying a good majority of people who consider gaming a hobby, just comes off to me as highly pretentious. Let's face the truth, the Wii is very limited. It was built that way. It has been successful for Nintendo, some new gamers and to many of its fans but not so to a majority of people who consider gaming a hobby.
And as for the controller, The classic controllers in general are better than the Wii remote, as they offer more precise and accurate manipulation for more genres of games compared to this "revolution."

you lost all credebility there.and there. according to your logic the ps3 and the 360 are losing to a console which can't satisfy people who consider gaming a hobby. thats pretty sad.

"Well over 54.5 million Wii owners disagree" IF that's the total Wii's sold, that statement is false. Why? Because just on this board and a lot of places on the web i see people moan and groan about thier inability to enjoy their Wii's. The Wii is more criticized than any other console, and fairly so. Not just on the net though, as in real life, the people who i know who own Wii's usually have them as nothing more than a living room decoration.
For all you've listed that the Wii has done, while some of them could be listed as pluses for the gaming industry as whole, the Nintendo Wii has decelerated the advancement and technological capabilities of future consoles just by its existence. M$ and Sony would kill to be in Nintendo's shoes right now. "Graphics doesn't matter, graphics doesn't matter;" a claim that has been made by many Nintendo supporters, but it does, it always has from the jump from the NES to the SNES to the 64 and so on, it has always mattered. And along with better graphics, we usually got better processing powers as well which gives the ability to make more developers visions, reality.
FPS's sell. That's why this devs make as many as they do. Just as at the moment, gimmicks sell, and M$ and Sony are hustling to release their motion controllers. The Wii has been good for Nintendo and its fans but not so for the majority of gaming enthusiasts. I was a Nintendo fan before, but i'm not one to support anyone/thing unconditionally unless i owe some responsibility towards it.

And as for the controller, The ****c controllers in general are better than the Wii remote, as they offer more precise and accurate manipulation for more genres of games compared to this "revolution."

you lost all credebility there.and there. according to your logic the ps3 and the 360 are losing to a console which can't satisfy people who consider gaming a hobby. thats pretty sad.
Uhm...oOokay. Why is that hard to believe? Do you realize that there are loads of people who don't consider gaming a hobby who also own a Nintendo Wii? And as far as the input method goes, how many genres actually NEED motion controls? And lastly, can i get my credibility back? Please Log In to post.
