I would agree with a lot of these games but imo online FPS isn't the best genre. BF2 would be amazing if it wasn't as unrealistic and nerfed as it is when it comes to fire arms.
Going prone with any automatic weapon in BF2 is so bad it almost makes me laugh.
A 50 cal sniper that holds no major advantages over any other sniper.
Dolphin diving and bunny hopping kind of ruin any sense of atmosphere.
I will admit the game comes damn close, though. BTW Ghost Recon isn't an FPS, neither is Gears.

Yeah Tribes was a massive breath of fresh air compared to quake, and runabout deathmatch too me. I'd still say Tribes is the hardest FPS to master to this day, and probably the only FPS to give you such a freedom of movement. Something really lacking in shooters today - its almost a reverse, games like GeOW encourage movement restrictions with focus on cover.
That and nothing is as satisfying as a mid air spinfusor kill, or when you begin to master the level geometry and skii properly.
AvP multiplayer was awesome though; though the marine movement in the first was a bit too fast, almost Doom sty-le speed, and AvP was fantastic, though I never got around to playing Duke 3D online.
