What is the greatest Legend of Zelda game of all time?

In honor of the storied franchise's 25th Anniversary, I decided to pose the question open to System Wars- what is the greatest Zelda game of all time?

Considering that there are well over a dozen Zelda games, and each is drastically different from the last, such a question always brings in many conflicting answers, especially from the fanbase, which seems to be split on the issue following the rather experimental direction the series has taken on following Ocarina of Time.

So I decided to try and get a definitive answer to the question, at least as far as System Wars is concerned: What is the greatest Zelda game of all time?

Rather than having a poll, where I would be limited by five options, I decided to go for a much more open and flexible approach instead.

• Name your three favorite Zelda games, in order of preference
• The game that is ranked first in your post will be awarded 50 points. The second game gets 25 points, and the third game gets 15 points.
• Only posts that name three games will be counted. Posts that name less than three games will be disregarded.
• If you name more than three games, then only the first three games mentioned in your post will be counted.
• Based on your responses, the points that each game gathers will be tallied up. At the end of the voting period, the game with the most number of points will be deemed to irrefutably be the best Zelda game, as voted by the fanbase.

With that in mind, here are my three nominations, in order:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time wins! It is, as voted by the fanbase, the greatest Legend of Zelda game. However, as is evident by looking at the full scorecard below, all the 3D Zelda games plus A Link to the Past really fall in an entirely different league altogether, and all of them are indeed some of the greatest games ever created.

Twilight Princess (Spits on OoT again, and is the most realistic and fleshed out world in Zelda)

Majora's Mask (Dark, moody, mysterious... Zelda's forgotten side :o)

1.The legend of zelda: Majora's mask (my favorite zelda because the only zelda game witht he mask system)

2.The legend of zelda: wind waker (love everything in the game very charming graphics even the music)

3.The legend of zelda: minish cap (love minish cap my favorite 2D game,Hidemaro Fujibayashi (ex-capcom) is my new favorite director)

I have a hard time deciding i love them all equally except the CDi something :P so i'll go to the one i choose.

Yeah I've seen so many "Favorite Zelda" threads before I became a little jaded and just automatically answered. I should have known you'd make a better poll though and I like the idea behind this.

I haven't played the 2D games, just the 3D ones, and it may seem a little controversial to put Twilight Princess above the other Zelda games, but it is the ultimate refinement to the series, has the best design and is highly replayable.

Wind Waker just captured that awesome sense of adventure that far too many games lack.

Ocarina of Time was a revelation in game design when it released and captured imaginations LIKE DAT BABAY!

I would have voted OOT if not for replaying MM this past week. I'm playing OOT3D now and am not nearly enjoying it as much as I did MM.

It's lousy compared to a few other Zelda games. It's lousy compared to Majora's Mask, in this case. :P
