I think Skyward Sword will offer nothing new except the look and still not compare or innovate over Ocarina of Time. Personally, it will probably just suck.

Agree with TC.

How can you POSSIBLY agree with TC, when TC says it won't suck, and you say it will?

Someone didn't read the OP .

I don't know why Nintendo deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the Zelda series. They've been overpromising and underdelivering ever since Wind Waker. From pointless quest padding (Triforce Hunt, Temple of the Ocean King) to stale design to uninspired overworlds, they really seem to have lost the thread of what made the series special in the past. Why should I continue to believe in them?

Maybe a "wait and see" attitude makes sense, but right now, I trust Anouma about as much as I trust Peter Molyneux to tell me what will be good about his upcoming game.

sonicmj1
They've been underdelivering? AAA titles across the board say otherwise, since Wind Waker the scores according to Metacritic for main Zelda games have been a 96, 96/95 (GC/Wii), a 90, and an 88 (Spirit Tracks got marked down for being the exact same as PH, but where else can you go with that model?). Looks like they've been delivering quality since they supposedly stopped making Zelda games with "the thread of what made the series special in the past."

I'm a long time zelda player beat all the zelda's except TP/WW

To be honest I hated the art style in WW the most but twilight princess's style also through me off he looks nothing like he should like in ocarina and smash bro melee

his twilight looked HORRIBLE IMO nothing like LTTP or Ocarina, its hard to describe it but he just doesn't seem himself in that game

Now im not fan of wind wakers art but skyward sword looks more like ocarina then any twilights

I'm glad their going with his more traditional look this could be the zelda game that gets me back to the wii cuz TP looked not dark but he didn't look right at all imo

Oh ****, you're back for reals. Anyway, your responses are valid but I am not as optimistic as you are. I can't imagine that they're planning to talk only about the controls until the last minute when they say "Oh yeah, we also made all these other changes that the franchise desperately needs."

I've always wanted a darker... M rated Zelda.. coming from Nintendo.. that will NEVER happen.. but one can dream. Instead we get a "paint" themed game... With motion controls....

Gosh I hope there is an option for the standard controller... doesn't look like it though with the enemy design...

lol. Apparently i was unbanned a few months ago. Really should have checked more.

I think the way theyre going to unveil the game will be similar to how they showed SMG2. First we got a trailer at E3 that pretty much showed recycled areas from SMG1, next trailer was in Feburary the next year which expanded upon that and finally a month before launch is when we saw everything. The new orchestrated music, new mechanics and designs. I think they'll follow a similar pattern with Zelda, although maybe a bit earlier. Because its like you said, we desperately need to see the changes. I just hope we get an official trailer soon (this year) but i could definately see them waiting till next year for our next media. Which would be a shame.

I've always wanted a darker... M rated Zelda.. coming from Nintendo.. that will NEVER happen.. but one can dream. Instead we get a "paint" themed game... With motion controls....

Can you explain what you mean by a darker Zelda? Moreso, what would you personally consider/want from a darker Zelda title?

And there will definately not be standard control scheme for SS. Besides the fact all of the games aspects will be designed around motion controls, If Nintendo had standard too it would be the biggest failure this gen. Practically them going back on everything theyve said this gen.

You da man... agreed.

By change they mean change in game flow. It's not going to be the same as it was in previous Zelda titles. Voice acting doesn't entirely matter, in my opinion. I don't care, reading the small bits of text in between the game isn't that difficult for me to do.

A darker Zelda...would have a dark creepy medieval feel to it. A mix between the new Robin Hood movie and maybe a little castlevania. Another thing I never like about Zelda is the lack of personality from the Bosses. All they do is protect an artifact in dungeons but there is never any really beef with Link or connection to Ganon. The games for a long time have been too cute and fluffy to me. And why went people discuss this must we take shots at DMC GoW and Ninja G?? Zelda guys always do it now when the concept of a better Zelda comes up. The makers of Zelda should play Limbo to that feeling of darkness and wonder the original gold cartridge had...trial and error

Perhaps you're so busy reading numbers on Metacritic that you can't actually assess the games you play, but that's obviously not the case. Zelda games have been running lower and lower on imagination since Majora's Mask, and it shows. Twilight Princess, especially, felt like such an obvious retread of expected Zelda concepts that it's a wonder it took them three years to make it. Was it that hard for them to mirror the world? Its 8.8 score was completely deserved, and IGN was justified when they chose Okami over Twilight Princess for their GOTY 2006. That game had more clever ideas and a more vibrant world than any Zelda game in nearly a decade. The world map was something to be involved in instead of something to ignore, and I actually got satisfaction from exploring.

Maybe if these were the days of Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and Ocarina of Time, I'd believe Nintendo when they tell me they're changing the series for the better, but while it's the same people that promised me that Twilight Princess would have a 70 hour main quest, I'll continue to be skeptical.

For those worried about Skyward Sword's graphics being lazy.

Look how much worse some of the first images of Wind Waker looked compared to the final product. This game will improve visually before its release. Iwata even said that improving the graphics was one of the main things they working on.

You can't compare TP's Link with Smash Bro's Brawl Link, both games have very different technical demands. Otherwise I agree.

Wow! Great numbers. Except, until Metacritic represents sonicmj1, then you can't use Metascores to prove his opinion wrong. But I almost considered changing my opinion on Spirit Tracks once I saw its Metascore!

You gave no indication of hyperbole. That post does not contain hyperbole, in fact. What you are doing is trying to change the meaning of what you posted after the fact.

This i can agree with. But something like this

"A darker Zelda...would have a dark creepy medieval feel to it. A mix between the new Robin Hood movie and maybe a little castlevania." - Coolyfett

Coolyfett

Would just be an attempt at being dark, and a clear failure.

The reason MM worked so well was because of how decieving it was. On the outside, it looks like a normal Zelda title, looking at it further however you start seeing peoples desperation and subtle creepiness Then you have that pressurising feeling throughout the game, sad conclusions and lo........ok il stop there, im not sure if youve finished it yet. It was the perfect balance of not trampling on the series and shining it in a new light.

I think when most people say dark/mature Zelda, they mean moving towards something like Dragon Age. Thats just something i hope never happens tbh.

To further this point, this was the first WW trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ7riCXrDxY

Its literally the same format as the SS sword trailer which was one of the reasons there was a large backlash. One type of enemy in a small secluded forest arena. Clearly just an indication of the direction Nintendo had taken the graphics.

Just one last point.

After TP was complete (around late 2005?) Nintendo changed the twilight realm art.

Originally supposed to look like a monotoned verson of Hyrule

Photobucket

It was changed to the bloomy realm we have now

Photobucket

Im not saying SS art will change as radically as this, but expect it to improve before launch. Mainly in the area of textures and detail.

Now that i think about it, nearly every console Zelda (ALTTP, OOT, WW and TP) have changed quite a bit graphically from when first shown to launch. Interesting.

Its literally the same format as the SS sword trailer which was one of the reasons there was a large backlash. One type of enemy in a small secluded forest arena. Clearly just an indication of the direction Nintendo had taken the graphics.

Wow that really didn't show anything about the game :P

Not even the huge ocean in the game.

I hope Nintendo has a huge surprise in story for fans with SS. They haven't even shown the overworld yet.

Just the way his sword glowed in TP. A pretty bad shot, though. I've never seen it glow green, personally.

I agree. It's sad that so many Nintendo fans just can't be happy. They will find anything they can to complain about. You should have seen the Donkey Kong Country Returns board it was terrible.

Maybe it's because they don't want more of the same time and time again.

That's true, they did hold back some of the Galaxy 2 stuff. It's just somewhat worrying because this game has been in development for years, and they're only just starting to release information. I'd rather they hurry it up if they really have anything else of consequence to show.

He doesn't know what he's talking about, so why do you even bother responding? D:

I still think there is going to be a cool twist with the overworld. It sounds like the game takes place before people were even in Hyrule, so there is a lot they could do with that.
