Am I biased for not caring what he of all people says?

I wonder what he would have said if he had gotten more then 5 hours into it.
MJPK
I'm surprised he made it 5 hours in, The first 10-15 hours are very repetitive and boring at times but after that it does get alot better
It should NEVER, EVER take a game 15 hours to get GOOD unless youre playing an MMO. Im about 5 hours in and I basically gave up. I dont want to waste the rest of my time to get to chapter 10 (to get good right??) when theres only 12 chapters!
He was SPOT on in this review...as funny as it is made to be, he makes all the valid points. The footsteps are annoying, all you do is RUN down a linear corridor, vanille has DOWN SYNDROME (is she australian? What kind of weird accent is that??) the story STINKS, absolutly makes ZERO sense unless you stop and read about it, etc etc.
I like 3 things about this game. Here they are...
1) The box hologram art...
2) The combat
3) CGI
The funny part is when he said you need to get around 20 hours into it for it to become good. I have heard that a few times from review sites. If you play a game that long and it is not fun then it is not a good game at all.SilentlyMad
Agreed, lol. He pretty much described exactly why I despise traditional JRPGs as well.

I never got why people find it hard to believe she's australian. The voice actress is actually Australian and Fangs accent if fake. Honestly half the complaint he laid out I could apply to most FF games past II so I don't see why XIII is all of a sudden such a big offender.Sorry if already posted

Really good review. He really liked Vanille ;)

I really don't like Bayonetta, so I saw the Zero Punctuation of it and I was laughing my head out the whole way!!
And this FF 13 review (?) was epic!

He actually said a game getting better after 20 hours isn't a good thing. Chances are he would've just complained about the characters more. :P
Meh, his review is pretty unprofessional. He didn't actually give the game a chance. He would have been better off just ignoring the game. I've watched a lot of his reviews, and his hatred of JRPG's has always been obvious, so what's the point? 1zenron1
I think someone has missed the point of Yathzee "reviews"

Yeah I think alot of people take him too seriously. He's a comedian not a journalist. If you're actually listening to his reviews and not buying games based on them or insulting others choice of game because Yahtzee doesn't like it you're doing it wrong. He accentuates the negative. Generally his comments have grounding in reality (although his review of Valkyria Chronicles honestly sounds like a different game) but unless it's Valve he's pretty much going to hate a game. Honestly I would say the fact is bothered with FFXIII for 5 hours even though he thinks jRPGs are the worst things ever and blah blah blah is a good thing. That;s around 4 hours and 50 minutes longer than I put up with genre's I dislike.[QUOTE="MJPK"][QUOTE="1zenron1"]Meh, his review is pretty unprofessional. He didn't actually give the game a chance. It is excusable if a game is bad and monotonous to start but gets good more than half way in? The is incredibly flawed logic. And what is a "professional" review? It is just an opinion, and Yahtzee gave the game enough chance to impress him (he even mentioned the fact that if he had been playing CoD4, he would have been finished already). He hates JRPG's to begin with, and him even trying the game is fair chance enough. No one should have to force themselves to sit through an entire game for it to be considered a "fair chance."

Agreed. I'd like to see anyone sitting down to complete games like Big Rigs.

You can say the same about any other reviews due to the fact that they're formulated over an opinion which is subject-able in anyway shape or form. For all I know this site gave Serious Sam HD First Encounter a 5.0 but to me its worth a 9.5. This is because reviews are opinions and are subject-able.
The fact that Final Fantasy XIII's start is as slow as a snail pulling a lead weight behind is another minus, this was the main factor that put him off the game in general. Because he did give the game a chance by playing it and it failed horribly at good first impressions.
You do realize he liked The world ends with you? And the point is that he gave his opinion of the game which is actually shared by people who like jRPGs.
Haha, I lol'd!
Every complaint he's got is spot-on, except maybe the menu interface one. I didn't find it bloated at all. You want bloated menus, try FFVIII. Whoa, menu overload.
Can't help but repeat, but loved the last lines: "Because I'm an unbiased critic (shut up! I am!) I try to give everything a chance to surprise. By the end the only thing that surprised me is how I hadn't managed to chew my own face off."
Pretty much. It's kinda sad actually. Some of what he says makes sense but, I get the impression that he's basically mocking video games. I definitely think games have gone downhill but, he'll take almost any game and make the whole industry out to be a big mess. If it's that bad, then why is he playing games? I know he's just being funny but, he only has like 1 good joke every blue moon and it's usually a joke with sexual themes to it. I might as well be watching video reviews by Seth Green. -_-Lame. Dont understand why people like his reviews. You've seen one of them you've seen them all.

You do realize that he does have a fair amount of videos that actually praise newer games?
I felt the same way as him when I borrowed it from a friend. :|

Same here, I rented it day 1 but I was going to buy it but it was sold out everywhere. Glad I didn't, I hated it for almost all the same reasons as Yahtzee.
Once I started understanding how the combat works, I was enjoying it (which only took me 5-10-ish hours to fully understand the combat, ), and the only character in the game I don't like is Hope, really; I would have rather seen Yahtzee obliterate him in the ending credits (But Vanille is annoying at times too, yes). And the visuals look quite good to me. And I don't see why so many people complain about having 3 discs; it's not THAT much of a grueling task...
The game isn't anything amazing, but I still think it is good, from what I have played so far. Much better than FFXII, IMO.
I don't understand why people have to "wait" for FFXIII to be good? What makes FFXIII bad in the first couple of hours that wouldn't make it bad by the fifth hour? If it's the battle system, then I don't see what the complaining is about. Most FF games are as dry as the first 2 hours of the game throughout the entire game.
As for the Yahtzee review, easy target, naturally.
I wonder what he would have said if he had gotten more then 5 hours into it.

He would find more of the same for the next 30 hours. If a game takes more than 30 hours to get good, its not a good game. In that time you could have experienced 2 or 3 actually good games.

Pretty much. I'm not going to sit and play a game for 10 hours hoping it would soon get better as it gets worse.

What changes? I've heard people say 10 hours. I've heard people say 20. I've heard people say 30. There are only two large changes in the game.
1. Introduction of paradigms at the beginning of Ch. 3
2. World Map Nouveau a.k.a. Gran Pulse.
After about an hour in, the gameplay was pretty much consistently great all the way to the end for me. Yes, the intro portion is a little overbloated (two chapters, really?) But the bulk of the gameplay, imo is better than the rest of the series. If you're talking about player freedom and Gran Pulse, then Final Fantasy isn't the series for you.
I agree that you definitely shouldn't have to "wait for a game to become good." But with FFXIII, it's probably because you're playing the wrong game.

Yeah, I noticed him do that like once every blue moon. -_-I'm surprised he still hasn't done GoW3. Imo not one of the funnier reviews, and I can't disagree more about the combat. I've had a blast with it, and you need to know what you're doing or the end game encounters will wreck you.WithoutGraceXIIYeah, actually, that is kind of surprising.
But I agree that it's not his funniest review.
