ZOMG Sales figures!

As of this month, the PS3 has sold 1.4 million units. The 360 has sold 2.3 million. The Wii, however, has both trumped, nearly outnumbering the competition combined at a healthy 3.6 million sold. And the handhelds? Nowhere near as close. The PSP has sold 2.9 million units, while the DS has sold a whopping 7.1 million.

The Wii is doing incredibly well, much better proportionally than in the US.

360 is doing better than I thought as well.

The ps3 right now, next to the 360 here is a joke price wise. Blu-Ray is less popular here than America, HD hasn't even taken off properly here so no one cares about Blu-Ray so the price isn't really all that reasonable.

Besides myself, I don't know of anyone else that owns a PS3 right now, 360 is doing real good though. Surprised at the wii figures as well. o.0

Looks to be the case when averaged to this month. But I believe the PS3 sold gazzillions in its first month, where as the 360 was heavily supply constrained so I would guess (yes it is only a guess) that the current 360 sale right would be slightly higher. Plus we don't know the impact the price drop will have made yet.

Seriously though, I guess I always figured the number of consoles sold in the UK to be higher then they actually are. Oh well, a bit of good news in this for all three console makers.

European market research group GfK Chart Track's current hardware figures for the UK reveal that the current-gen console installed base in the region nearly doubled, going from 8.8 million to 17.3 million in the last twelve months.

Nintendo's Wii hardware led that growth, more than tripling its installed base from 1.1 million units in September 2007 to 3.6 million units now, according to figures citedby UK industry site GamesIndustry.biz.

The Xbox 360 also saw considerable gains, jumping to 2.3 million units from 1.3 million units in the previous year. Sony's PlayStation 3 received a similar boost, reaching 1.4 million units compared to its installed base of 0.4 million units in September 2007.

In the handheld space, the Nintendo DS expanded its base from 3.8 million units to 7.1 million units in twelve months. PSP growth over the past year was smaller in comparison, however, rising from 2.2 million units to 2.9 million units.

UK retailer The Game Group, which today reported £36.4 million ($65.7m) in record profitsfor the first half of the year, expects the Wii's installed base to grow to 4.9 million, the Xbox 360 to 2.8 million, the PlayStation 3 to 1.9 million, the Nintendo DS to 8.3 million, and the PSP to 3.1 million by Christmas.

This is the only place in Europe where the 360 sells as well as the PS3. I think the PS3 did sell gajillions in it's first couple of weeks and since then they've been selling pretty much equally. Until the 360's 2 price drops this year anyway.

Someone else mentioned this, but it's roughly 1 in 7 people in the UK that own a DS.

Those are definitely some very impressive numbers. I just wish we had the numbers for the rest of Europe.

Seems like the biggest ones are UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. I think the DS does the best in all of those countries. Man, it's quite possible that the DS will reach 200 million when all is said and done. That is so impressive.

I wouldnt say that. In fact if I recall correctly it wasnt until GTA 4 released this year where the 360 started beating the PS3 in sales in the UK in 08. I remember seeing an article about it a while ago. It did sell alot at launch but people also have to remember it launched alot later then everywhere else so at most that large launch caught up to the fact Europeans had to wait 5-6 months more then everyone else.

I beleive the PS3 and 360 are selling roughtly the same in the UK, everywhere else in Europe is a different story however.

Remember that the PS3 is only 1 mill down in the U.K. and its only been there for one year and 6 months. While the 360 has been there for TWO years and 9 months.

THe 360 outsold the PS3 for two weeks so far out of how many weeks this year? Its sales also have been falling dramatically. The 360 probably wont even make the 1 million mark in Japan this year so I doubt two weeks is much to brag about, the PS3 also outsold the Wii for a month when a certain game released, it didnt last.

As for the sales in the UK we dont get regular weekly or monthly sales so its hard to determine a trend but with the total numbers available in this thread and the knowledge of how long each console has been on the market its obvious that they are either selling neck and neck or the 360 might be selling slightly better. However the other parts of Europe are not so friendly toward the 360.

It helps to keep up on the news.

Good news for the 360. But is the DS on steroids? I don't really like the DS, but wow...
