here's an excellent article on the state of gaming today and how nintendo seems like the only company willing to appeal to adult gamers that are losing interest in gaming (like me) and families.  Not just the hardcore single 18-25 year old male.

That truly was a good article. Thanks for the link. Those who developed VMSound, ScummVM and DOSBox have enabled classic games to be played on a computer. Kudos to them too.

That was pretty good. The only thing that sounds a bit weird is that as we grow older, we won't be able to play as many games as before, but you'll probably end up getting the cream of the crop anyway. We'll just be more selective as to what's worth our time. The article does bring up its best point IMO with the part that talks about the games that are accessible to everyone. Nintendo has a knack for making games that everyone but the hardcore audience (who calls them kiddie) find enjoyable to play. It's better to make a really great game that's for everyone than a gory game that goes straight to the hardcore. And the article made me crack up with the part that says your children might not like games. Blasphemy! No child of mine won't like games!!!! J/K, but it really is funny to think of, I'd love to play games with my children. Real games, that are for everyone, the kinds of games I grew up with, not those silly mental drips that most licensed kids games are.....

I really liked the article too. Games the equivilant to E & T rated are the ones that we grew up with. I really hope that Nintendo continues to be in business because they are the only pure video game company left. What I mean by that is that they have a heart for gaming and are not just in it for the money.

So, it's been over a year and a half. Any retrospective commentary someone would like to add? I know I think the Wii is adding longevity to the PS2. I don't think titles would still be released for the PS2 if the Wii wasn't around.

Wow,,,, I can't get to the original article now, but it has been almost 2 years since the last post and guess what, they are still making some releases for the PS2. Gaming is not even close to dying and Wii is about to release the details on their next console at E3.

Would have like to read the article, but I doubt seriously that I would have agreed with much of it from what I read. I like all games, but find it a bit off-putting being classified as a HARDCORE.
