Well, while video games offer a great hobby for the anti-social, it doesn't necessarily mean that all or most players are anti-social.  I know lots of gamers and wouldn't classify any of them as a.s.  Plus, gamers get togther to play online in groups, in huge lan parties, and online.  I think gaming makes a great hobby for the a.s. person, but I can't even say that "most" gamers I know are a.s.

"Gaming is asocial" Here's what I'm thinking. Indeed, you can play a lot alone, but you can also play with others. Those are the multiplayer games. These can be cooperative or competitive. In the cooperative games you have to work together by running in the same direction. If one wants to go left and the other right, than the camera won't move, so you have to choose whether you both go left or both go right. In these games you also have to be a backup for the other. You have to make sure your partner isn't be shot. In competitive games you have to be the best, the fastest, the strongest,... It's always nicer to play with a friend, a neighbour,... than to play alone. Some games are made to play solo, but it's nicer to play them with friends. While one plays can the other watch and then you can switch. Besides the multiplayer games, you also have online games. Those are the ones you play on the internet. You have also a headphone so you actually hear the others. You are in contact with the whole world. You even can make your own friend list. You play against a friend but then each in their own house. On the internet you also have discussionboards. There are a lot of gaming. You can exchange your opinion of games, you can meet new people there. I met some new friends like that. Somethimes we come together to play. Besides the discussionboards you also have lan parties. Here gamers gather together to exchange thoughts, to play together.

:D From what I've seen, videogame forums are always the ones with the most activity.  Sounds pretty social to me!

You're right, I think that multiplayer games add a whole dimension.  Pop in a fun multiplayer game and you have a party in a box!

I think its very social, companies are now starting to make more 'Party' games like the dance mat, karioke & Buzz and online gaming getting huge now especially with consoles having a online feature now.

However, i've never been into multi player games & i don't play online. So although i believe its a very social past time, i also think it can be the opposite with regards to me sitting for hours in a dark room with a epic RPG and the phone of the hook.

Gaming is can be very social, a number of times recently i've had friends round for gaming nights, trying to play halo after a few beers is highly interesting.

Also MMOs are really social. I've recently been sucked into city of heroes which is very much about teaming with other players online and has a great community. As some one mentioned, game forums are very busy, tis one of the reasons i've not been around much, i've been stuck in COH and it's forums.
