Hi Everyone!  If you'd like, post a little about yourself here so we can get to know each other.

I've became a gamespot member this year, I used to post in another forum website, but this one's much better.  I'm glad there's a union for adults.  Many of my friends don't play games cuz they're under the impression that they're just for kids.  I've been playing games all my life (my brother always bought videogame systems).  I currently own a Gamecube and a Nintendo DS.

Great idea!

I just joined Gamespot this year, too.   I played video games on and off since I was 11 around 1981 (you do the math, lol), on friend's video game systems, in arcades.  When I was 11 Pac Man was the big thing.  Then Atari at my cousin's house, then Burger Time at my "boyfriend"'s house.  During that time of my life we had no money, so it was gaming just at arcades and at friend's houses.

My hubby and I have a ps, ps2, dreamcast.  Around '99/2000 I was totally addicted to Spyro.   I'd gotten sick w/ Bronchitis and had to take  2 weeks off from school.  All I did all day was play Spyro.  :)  I dreamed Spyro and woke up w/ the music in my head.  But since then I haven't been much into gaming.  But then I got Nintendogs!  (yeah, yeah...)  I HAD to have the Pug one (I have a pug in real life), so I got a DS and Nintendogs.  Once I discovered that it played GBA games too, I was psyched.  I started getting DS and GBA games, hubby even had some GBA games already.  Now I'm addicted.  Hubby now has my blue DS and I got a Pink one from Japan (and added some bling to it).  Gaming is great.

I found gamespot and loved it.  I tried to find unions to join but it was hard to find what I was looking for.  I spent hours looking for an adult gamers union and could find nothing.  So I figured I'd create one, but I wasn't at a high enough level yet.  So I joined Gamespot Complete so that I could create a union anyway, and now it's finalized!  It took a long time because of all the Gamespot down time during the site upgrade.  I'm psyched.  I hope everyone takes this union as their own and posts articles, links, forum posts, anything.  I just hope that the immature attitudes and postings that I've seen in some other places stays away from here.  :)

Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

And also, the icon and banner are just placeholders, so feel free to submit ideas for new ones!!! :)  The slogan "Because not all of us are 1337" I just came up with for fun.  We can make a new one.  My original idea for a slogan was "Because some of have pubic hair." but I thought that might be inappropriate.  ;)  LOL.

Cheers!  :D

They 'll get ironed out with time. Anyway, hello. I'm 23 and live in Sheffield, England. I've been gaming since i was 7 or 8. I was given an old atari someone in the family didn't want and not looked back really. Through the years i've collected a number of systems, commador 64, NES, mega drive, ps and ps2, along with an original gameboy and a GBA SP. I'm a big fan of the final fantasy series, which i was introduced to by a housemate during my degree, and been waiting over a year for FF12. I studied Chemistry at university in Sheffield and am now in second year of a Phd in chemistry, still in Sheffield. When i'm not at work or gaming, i enjoy watching sci-fi or being in the pub with my friends. I'm looking forward to this union being a great success. Nice to meet everyone.

Well... I had written a longer intro which was killed by Gamespot... so here's the condensed version: I'm in Somerville MA (a close suburb of Boston). My lovely bride and I have two kids, aged 3 and 7. My son, the older, and I play lots of games together. I work at a large insurance company doing web application design. My games experiece started (like many of use I would assume) started with "Pong" and the arcades ("Space Invaders", "Asrteroids", etc). Our first home console was a "Video Tennis" machine that could do Pong closely followed by an Atari 2600. Since, between my wife and I we've had Intellivision, TurboGraphix 16 (and the Turbo Express portable), Genesis (and the Nomad portable), Super Nintendo, Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx, Playstation, Playstation 2, Gamecube and several Game Boys. Oh - and an illustrious line of PCs back to my TI 99/4A. I like most genres but don't really like sports or racing games. I play very few strategy games and simply have no time for MMORPGs. I tend to play platformers and adventure games most but can't live without a periodic RPG fix (I'm finally playing "Final Fantasy X-2" now). The boy and I do a lot of "his" games (mostly crappy movie licenses) together but we also do a lot of good games as well... I'm apparently not allowed to create a thread on the board (not trusted already!) but I'd like to know what games you guys play with your kids as well. "Burnout", "Katamari Damacy" and "Lego Star Wars" are some of the good ones of the bunch that we play.

Hello to all!

I found this site about a year ago, maybe longer and have been impressed with it. Think it's a little scary how long it's taking them to work the bugs out of their latest version of the site, but maybe that's why they review the games instead of create them.:D Anyway, I have been playing games for over 20 years starting with Atari and continuing today with XBox and PC games. Favorite types of games are RTS, RPG and FPS, but I'll try just most games at least once. Recently I have even stepped into a MMORPG for the first time with Guild Wars (if you're interested you can get more details from my blog, yes that was a shameless plug). :)

Anyway, I think this guild was a great idea and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

That's so strange because I double checked to make sure that members could post. I will check again.

Because of this warning here:
http://www.gamespot.com/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=20368290
Which says:
"Union leaders, new and old: A few people have been taking advantage of unknowing unions by joining them and then deleting their homepage articles or defacing them. This is because the union leader has set their membership levels to "Open to All" and also have their permissions set to "Recruits - Post/Edit/Delete Articles". I know the permissions interface isn't optimal, but as a leader please be aware that the settings on that page matter a great deal and you should take them seriously. Your union can easily be damaged by carelessness."

I did go in to make sure that permissions weren't TOO open, as per the warning, but although only officers can "post/edit/delte updates" to the front page, officers AND RECRUITS CAN post article comments (front page) and create board (forum) topics.

So I really have no idea why you can't post a new post to the forums.  I'll hit the tech support forum to find out.  Maybe I'll just promote you anyway, so that you can post.  ;)

Anyway...  I LOVE "We Love Katamari"!!!!!!!! It's so cute and fun and addicting! I bought the original one too but have not opened it up yet. :) I love racing games myself.

I figured the problem had to do with the upgrade and not with any specific settings on the admins part. I just seem to be getting hit with lots of bugs (deleted messages, unable to do things, deleted blog posts, etc). ;^) I'm sure it'll get all worked out eventually... but for now I'm keeping a "backup" of every post I make in Notepad just in case.

Good idea, I used to do that a lot w/ another buggy board I used to go to, write the post in notepad and save it, then copy/paste it into the board.

When I try to copy/paste here I get an error that you can't paste due to a security setting, but I find that if I click the "<>" button, I can then paste w/ no problem.

Are you using Firefox? if so, shift + insert works for pasting.

I doubt it - that security setting is an IE setting. The reason is because the "WYSIWYG" editor is actually a built-in Active X Control (the MSHTML Editing control - it's included in IE). The security setting prevents clipboard access from Active X or Script. Hitting the "HTML" button switches you to a plain textarea. (Sorry for the lecture... I do this for a living. I could go on at length about what I don't like about the HTML control's output if you like!)

Hello all. I'm 21, live in CT, USA. I'm a life-long gamer, in fact, I still have my first game carts from when I was 2 or 3 and play them a few times a year (Space Invaders, Combat, Bowling, and Pac-Man for Atari).

I have an Atari 7800, SNES, N64 (just got it a week ago, cuz EB has all N64 games 50% off till they are all gone), Dreamcast (My favorite system), PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and my Nintendo DS. My collection is around 275 games right now, give or take a couple games, with 60 of them being for DC.

I'm just finishing my bachelor's, then gonna do my Master's while working.

Heya everyone...I recently registered with GameSpot after browsing the site for awhile and just found this Union, so I guess I'm somewhat of a newbie. I'm 21 and I have been playing video games from as far back as Atari and NES although my first system was a Sega Genesis, then SNES, GB, PS1, GB - Pocket, PS2, XBOX, GBASP. I don't think the list will ever stop as I can't seem to stop playing! Anyway, I just wanted to post a short introduction about myself and hopefully I will get to know a few of you. See you around.

Hi, 26 year old guy from South West England. Been playing video games since i was about 3, i used to write basic game codes on a ZX81 and had different systems since then, although now i'm a sony fanboy and own a PS2 & PSP.

Been at Gamespot for almost a year now. I have a more 'adult' off-topic UCB but i think a more adult union is a fantastic idea. I have a Rockstar Union too and most of those games are rated M but for some reason it seems users of all ages play them :?

Anyway good idea for union so i thought i'd join :)

I'm using Mozilla. I get the error even w/ the shift insert thingy. But if I hit< > and go into that posting mode then I can paste.

Oh wow, I just realized something. I ALWAYS paste using cntrl + V. I get that error but NOT if I go to the top menu and go to Edit - Paste. Weird! :)  Here's the error I'm getting: SCREENSHOT

Weird, I won't let me edit my message....anyways, I forgot to say my age, I'm 23.  Don't feel bad, we're all in the same boat.  Most people at gamespot are teengaers, for some reason everyone is 15, and when I say my age, I'm they're all shocked.  I admire you, my sister is 33 and I beg her to play, but she thinks they're too complicated.  I wish everyone was like you....I might buy DDR just to make her play something

Hello, I've been gaming since I was 12 years old. It all started with my old gray Nintendo gameboy. I soon switched from handheld to console. I doubted if I wanted a Sega Megadrive (=Genesis) or a SNES. My first console was the Sega MegaDrive. Big mistake! It didn't suit me well and I hated it. I left it along. I should have bought the SNES. I quit gaming for almost 6 years. I missed the era of the PlayStation and the N64. After 6 years I wanted a console again. Meanwhile it was the era of the PlayStation 2, so I bought a PlayStation 2. We still had to wait a year before the xbox and the Gamecube were launched. My PlayStation 2 was bulleye. A wide range of games . I still plays the most on my PlayStation 2. My favorites are racing, rpg and flight-sim. The PlayStation 2 is the queen of the rpg's.. Meanwhile I bought also a xbox and a Gamecube when there was a pricecut. The xbox is a powerful machine with very good hardware and service, but the games are not so addictive like those on the PlayStation 2. The Gamecube is not for me . The glorydays are over for Nintendo in my opinion. Also I appreciated again retro. I think it's nice to play again in 2D in the difficult 3D-era. I bought some retroconsoles: Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES en SNES. I really should have chosen the SNES because it's really addictive. Besides my hobby of gaming, I have another one: puzzling. I'm a fan of Star Trek Voyager, Charmed, Xena The Warrior Princess, Stargate SG-1. I like cats but I hate dogs because I'm afraid of dogs. If I see someone coming with a dog I cross the street. I like it cold and I really hate the heat. My favorite seasons are winter and fall.

Ok, so I'm waiting to get a DS until the new "slimmer" version comes out and I can see if I like that one better. I recall getting the GBA and now I love the "new" GBA with the brighter screen. So I'm thinking the same might be true of the "new" DS. Nintendo, those dogs ........

I like the brighter screen too, the DS Lite is supposed to have brightness control like the Micro.  I don't know if I'll upgrade.  Lol, there's a DS Lite papercraft....care to see what it feels like in your hands?  http://playeradvance.org/forum/showpost.php?p=17829&postcount=103

Welcome aboard, Coding :) Good to have you here with us. I'm 45 and I love the old games and consoles, too. I cut my teeth on the Sega Genisis playing Sonic till the cartridge wore down, lol. I also loved their handheld model. It had a beautiful color screen. That was long before PSP and GBAs. I see on your blog you get your DS wi-fi working. Did you get the Nintendo wi-fi adapter? I'm going to be getting a DS and Mario Kart so we'll have to hook up and play some time soon.

Hi there. My name's Brian and I'm from Cleveland, OH. I'll try not to get too long-winded here, but I get pretty excited when I finally come across a union I like here on GameSpot.

I'm 22, and I've been a fan of video games ever since I got my NES with the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet combo cart on my 5th birthday. Nintendo has always been my favorite developer/publisher, although I consider myself a pretty serious collector and own just about every system from the 2600 on up (still trying to find a Virtual Boy). My favorite genres include platformers, fighting games, puzzle games, and anything new and innovative (Killer7, Trauma Center, Katamari, Ico....).

I graduated from an unbearably boring college last May with BAs in Biology and Psychology, and I'm going for a Masters before heading off to medical school. In my spare time, I volunteer as a staff writer for Gamer Within, an Australian-based gaming site. I've also been trying to get my girlfriend of 5 years, also a first-year medical student, to appreciate games the way I do (which is why some of you may recognize me from CodingGenius's Women Who Game union).

I found GameSpot about a year ago and have had a relatively positive experience with it, although I've found it more and more difficult to find intelligent conversations. I created Community Contributions, a union where GS members can give and get feedback for anything they write (player reviews, editorials, blog entries, poetry, artwork, whatever). We also put out the weekly issues of ReviewSpotting you may have seen in GGD, and we do our best to keep a running tally of player reviews that blatantly violate the ToS so that GameSpot can find and remove them faster. We're really dedicated to making the GameSpot community a better place.

Anyway, I should probably stop there. I hope my links weren't too spammy. I don't mean to advertise. I look forward to getting to know you guys.

Welcome to AGU, Fish. I can relate to what you said completely, "...although I've found it more and more difficult to find intelligent conversations." I was a chat host for a long time, and after a while I had to quit doing it because of the dire lack of stimulating conversation. It seemed all my on-screen dialogues were beginning to resemble alphabet lessons from gradeschool. You can only discuss the weather so many times or digest two- or four-syllable responses (L8TR, IC, etc.). I started to feel like I was having conversations with a computer, instead of people. I came to Adult Gamer's because Angel invited me, and while I love games and discussing them I also love to have conversations with people who can type more than one word.

I am also a writer. I've never had anything published, but that hasn't stopped me from writing. Mostly short stories, some poems (any writer worth his/her salt eventually delves into poetry at some point), a few articles and essays. I'll have to check out Community Contributions. Thanks for the link.

It's good to have you with us, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hey all, 28 year old Canadian here. It's about time there was a forum for us oldies here. Although I'm a big fan of reading posts from 14 year olds (STFU n00b u are teh lamenezzz omg11!one!!!eleventy1), I also enjoy the use of coherent sentences once and a while, something I hope to find here. Xbox & PS2 owner. If you can say one game that got me hooked, I'd say it was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. My vid playing may have even started before that with the old school Star Wars arcade game. (The vector based one where you dodge the snowflakes). I would say the all time best games would be (in no particular order) KOTOR, SSX3, Sega Sports Tennis, Final Fantasy X, Chrono Trigger. I'm a Mac User, so I know nothing about PC Gaming. I do web / graphic design in my (limited) spare time, feel free to ask me for any logos / pics etc.

Welcome Canada. I'm a graphic designer, too (and I also love FFX). I've also been writing since I was fifteen, so yes, complete sentences .... like "bye for now" (as opposed to B4N).

Howdy, I'm Andrew. I'm 41 and have been playing video games since the early '80's at coin arcades. I got my first NES system around 1987 and I haven't stopped since. I spotted the Pug on Laserone's profile. I have two 15 year old Pugs named Pugsly and Wednesday. :) Then I saw that there was an adult gamers union and I signed up. :)

Greetings Mortals

I´m a 34 year old gamer from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I have been playing games since the mid seventies. When one of my grand parents gave us one of those first consoles, which had various forms of pong on it. To bad the batteries in those days were of poor quality. One of them eventualy leaked its content into the console and destroyed it. If it had survived, it would probably be worth a fortune these days.

Until today I didn´t have much faith in unions. Besides being to bussy playing games, I had lost interest in the GS forums. because of the juvenile majority there. But I wondered if this union already existed, else I might have started it myself, and it did. I´ll be visiting here more often.

Welcome to the union!  I do like this union because it doesn't have much of the annoyances of other unions too.  Feel free to post your experiences.  And tell us a little bit about Amsterdam!  I always like to hear the gaming situation around the world.

Glad to be aboard. Game wise things are fine here in the Netherlands. Amongst my friends and acquaintances there are many adult gamers, both males & females. Im a member of a Dutch game clan for grown-ups. We play MMO´s & FPS together. And although my body isn´t as forgiving, as it once was, with lack of sleep. Me and my friends occasionally visit a LAN party.

Hey Andrew, and the Netherlands, wow .... good to have you all here. What's it like living in the Netherlands? It just sounds old and quaint for some odd reason, like the little village in Babe. Of course I think after watching The Shipping News enough times (15 times to date) everything sounds like a quaint Babe-like village. And dogster, could that be where dogs go to download music?

I expect it isn´t much different from living anywhere in the civilized world. Except that this is a small nation, drive two hours in any direction and your in an other country. And as the majority of the population live in the western provinces, there are about ten million people living in a hundred square mile area, so it´s a bit crowded.

But with the highest broadband penetration, beside South Korea, of the world. Almost everybody´s online. And with the hub that connects mainland Europe with the UK & US less than three miles from here, I´m not complaining.

The name's Kiel (it's germanic; pronounced as "Kyle" in english), but I also go by the nickname "Wolf." Um, I'm 19 (going to be 20 in April). I started on video games when I was about seven, with an used, or at least I think it was used, NES my parents got me. I can't remember if it was for Christmas or my birthday, though. But, I've been a gamer ever since. Uh, as it says in my profile: "I, and my friend, Vince, have plans to start up our own business, EternalWolf Studios, in Tokyo, Japan (where he currently lives) and I hope to move down there by the end of the year. We will start of slow, producing manga, then set up another branch to go into anime, and finally, a third branch for video game projects. I also, later on when I have the proper amount of money and financal support, want to start up the Games and Anime Protection Organization (GAPO) which would be a non-profit organization of activist gamers and otaku, and represent both against frivolous criticism and lawsuits. Along with just being something to show your a fan, and that you support what you love." And that's about all I can think on what to say. Except maybe, I think the Super NES probably the best system ever made. It's classic; it's a system god. And it had some excellent games.

Tarnsyn, welcome to AGU. I just read an article on GameSpot called So You Want to be an Artist?. They have a link in that article to their feature story foums where member josh7485 writes...

"I see alot of you are artist here anime/magna and my advice to you is, well dont be. At least dont make that a big focus as if you goto apply to any company with a bunch of top notch anime/magna drawings I can garuntee you that WILL NOT get you a job. Sure some games have a magna style (though not many) but the companies that make them do other things too! Goto a concept site like Conceptart.org which is hands down the greatest art site on the web and you'll see that magna is highly frowned upon.

In the article while they said focus on the fundamentals Im dissapointed no one pointed out the absolute most important thing to focus on if you want to make it into the industry and that is human ANATOMY, learn it to the degree were you can draw a human from any angle and have it dead on right. learn all the bones ligaments muscles and how they all work together move together and so on."

Josh is correct. Magna style is getting old, just like Pokemon. It had its day but that day is fading. There are plenty of other areas where young aspiring artists should concentrate their talents. He's also correct about human anatomy. Even though I am mainly a cartoonist, I spent many years studying and drawing the human form. Charles Schultz and Johnny Hart both did the same. It helps in so many ways in developing your talent, no matter what you're going to draw.

I also want to add that Conceptart.org is indeed hands down the greatest art site on the web. I am a member there and have learned a great deal from the great talents that post there (they also frown upon Magna style art, which is like I said getting old and used).

Wow, it sounds like a cool place.  It's nice how so many people embrace technology!  Most of my friends don't play games.  If they do they're really casual and have only a handful of the biggest titles.
