[QUOTE="horgen123"]Mitu do you know how to override the fan speed on a Acer TimelineX model? mitu123Isn't that a laptop? And why would you need to do that? Just download Speedfan and configure the values of the fanspeed. It gets a bit to warm for my liking when playing Quake 4.

Nope, it's the Aspire TimelineX 5820TG, released June last year. It's not overheating it, but I generally don't like the temperature on the air coming out from it. horgen123I'm still not surprised. But honestly, if your temperature is getting high, that's a heating issue, and of course with lack of cooling you'll just have to put up with it even if you alter the fan speed.
Not to mention the specs are a little unbalanced IMO. Â

It's not very ventilated there I got it, but I can do some small things that helps with that. Which I usually do if I play a game. Forgot that the room temperature is way above what it is usually at this time of the year. Lets see if I can get it down from average 50C or so now :PYour laptop shouldn't be getting so hot with your specs unless you are maxing games or lacking cooling options. Room temperature is far more important as well.
By unbalanced, I mean CPU is decent, RAM is enough, but that GPU is crappy, not even decent. For older games it isn't bad though.
To be fair, my system is only unbalanced when it comes to the cpu, though it'll be changed sometime soon, rocking 2 1GB 460s and 8GB RAM here with an average AMD Athlon II X4 645 overclocked to 3.6ghz.
Well I do run Quake 4 at 1680*1050 with everything on high or max I think except no antialiasing... Some screen tearing during videos but almost nothing during gameplay. :?Um, there are laptops with good GPUs.:| Even with SLI/Crossfire. Yours is still low end but way better than intergrated graphics.*shivers* Example of a good one:
And it is a laptop so of course the GPU is crappy. Yet this one is far better than many out there because it is has a dedicated GPU card.
The temperature hasn't gone down now, but the fan is almost off. How do I increase the fan speed with speedfan? I didn't really understand how to do it. horgen123

Has a 1.5GB 570m which is awesome for laptops.
See where it says Speed01 and more along with arrows next to a % sign? Click the up arrows on them.

Laptop GPUs are usually nothing compared to their desktop counterparts...That is true, lol.
I tried that, but heard no difference... Shall try to raise it a lot more then horgen123
But here's another good explanation:
"Before starting, if you are using speedfan to control an important temp, make sure that it loads with windows. The way you configure fan speeds in speed fan, assuming your mobo supports it, is as follows:
For example, I have a quad core, and I set my desired temp at 40c and my warning at 50c. My fan runs at 5% most of the time, 50% when above 40c (usually during heavy encoding), and it hasn't ever hit 100% yet. I'm on water though, and I use speedfan to control my rad fan."Â
Mitu do you know how to override the fan speed on a Acer TimelineX model? horgen123Hey you have Acer TimelineX laptop too? Which one?
Santa was nice to me this year and surprised me with a Macbook Air which I'm posting on right now! The thing is tiny and so light! I'm going to try using it only for programming and the occasional website surfing.julian_jrmac's

It's a year and half old now... Two years old in June. The heating issues may come from the GPU fan turning on really late.Must be a year or two older than mine considering my friend has same specs with 57 series model. But good enough to play Crysis 2 smoothly
EDIT: Did your heating issues get resolved? I would love to get mine resolved :( Seems that bugs Timeline modelsÂ
