I'm getting near 2K from them per kill.

Effort Value Points. For every 4 pokemon you kill you gain one EV. It also depends on the pokemon special ability, I mean with this if is better with attack, defense, etc. If you want to train a pokemon's attack, you need to fight lot of pokemon that gives you more EV for attack. Also there is a limit per pokemon of how much EV you can get.
