[QUOTE="julian_jr"] Also, what do you think of the possible categories in the second post? Do you recommend anything different?kittygus
What about, Best Fan Club?

I'll add that to the list. I'm thinking in the next day or so we'll start discussing which should be removed. ;)
I'll help, gladly.the-silent-hero
Awesome thanks! Could you tell other unions out there that don't know about this event what is going on? I want all the unions around in gamespot to hear of this and participate. ;)

That would help lol. :P When voting and nomination time comes around your members need to know so they will vote haha. Also, if you know of any other unions out there that you think haven't heard of this yet, could you inform the leaders of this? I'm really aiming at the smaller unions which are often hidden, many people don't know of them and that's one of the reasons people believe that unions have all died.

[QUOTE="mariostar0001"]I've seen two blogs and two union topics about this. Word is spreading fast. julian_jr
Yes! That's what we need! :D We've already began thinking of possible award categories in the second post mario. Is there anything that you would recommend to add or remove from the list? We want to have around 8-10 categories for awards, to make it similar to how it used to be in the past.

Everything I can think of is too generic, AKA already thought of. :P Also note that I've now seen it in three unions, but you can blame Cloud for that. ;)

Haha that's alright. Of the current list, which would you suggest to remove? We're only going to have 8-10 of these in the actual awards show.

Wow, I've been seeing it today in different blogs, but not in that many unions so far.:P It hasn't been a full 24 hours since this started though lol, and I have noticed it's definitely speeding up now.

Hmm, here's the template here. You can quote this and just copy the template part (if it doesn't work tell me and I'll think of something else): Many of you weren't around back then, but at one time gamespot used to create every year an awards show for all the unions on Gamespot, in order to recognize outstanding unions. Sadly, the last one was in 2007 and since then there hasn't been a new one.

It's time for a renaissance however! The Union Awards are back, although we need help from everybody to make this as successful as previous years. Here is the link to the thread where this is being worked upon, we're looking for volunteers and people to help spread this throughout all the unions in gamespot. We want to make this as unbiased as possible and have as many people as possible from the community involved in this project. Let's raise awareness for unions and honor those who've been successful!

Help us bring back the Union Awards by copying this and posting this in your blogs and unions!

Also, I would say best top 25 view union looks less then good, basically in view of the views not being updated glitch (Unless that's been fixed recently).

First to fight unions are unions which were the original unions created in gamespot. They were the very first created and have an emblem saying it. I'm considering to remove it though, and we could have most thriving union instead or something like that, since if one of them is still going strong then it's obviously going to do well. I'll add you to the team PMP. ;) We only need like two more people I think before having a full team to do the awards show.

Perhaps we could edit one of the current categories instead so that they could fit into that instead of creating an entire new category. We want there to be competition, not that there will only be one union in each category that automatically wins, if you get what I mean.

I like the idea of doing these.

Although if I may, I think there should be something along the lines of "best political/religious union". There are quite a lot on Gamespot.

I don't know what members of unions you are.

Although I have seen many unions that have political, religious and philosipocal themes, and they should be included also (in my opinion).

It wouldn't require too much. Obviously there will be some tedious tasks like counting the votes (we won't be using a traditional poll for this to keep people from cheating). We've got a nice team assembled though, and we'll be creating a skit in the show.

Hey J :)

These are a few political unions which I know of. There are also religious unions and a philosophy one.

Azaru32

I thought it would be judged in terms of activity, membership and age etc? This is not about what the union stands for, but how good they keep the union, no?

Well that would be nice, because the political unions that are active (such as mine) don't seem to have much going for them for these awards, because they are never as active as OT unions.

Is there more than one political/religious union out there? If there is a good amount and they are all relatively active, then we could add the category. This is all in terms of how many people are active in different types of unions. The only thing I do fear about this category is however that people could argue due to some people having very differing opinions on these types of matters. Some might end up offended if there union didn't win and a different religious union won for example.

Do you think that perhaps slightly editing one of the current categories would allow your union and types like it be able to compete for awards against other unions? The whole category list still isn't completely set, so there's time to change things around to set it up to include as many different types of unions as possible.

I am fine with slightly editing something. I am just worried that different types of unions have different activity rates and membership etc, and I wish to make things as unbiased as possible.

Yeah, which is why categories are open for discussion right now. The challenging part is that we only want 8-10 categories (to make the awards a challenge, and since in the past it was always that amount). Which category could be slightly edited to include those types of unions? There's gotta be a way somehow.

I like those ones such as "most dedicated union", however I suspect that people will judge them on membership numbers, post counts and most views. So I think that if something is added in there saying size doesn't matter that would be good.

I just added that small part in. ;) For all of these awards the size doesn't matter, there can be major upsets possibly, if a smaller union which more people are a fan of beat an older, bigger union. Obviously if a union appears nearly dead then it may have a much harder time winning against a union which is more active, however the people voting on this will be the members of the gamespot union community.

I'm going to have to talk to fastest, about how they did the entire voting process in the past. He's the only person in our team so far who did this in the past, and knows exactly what to do.

I'm thinking we'll have two rounds: a nomination round followed by a voting round. People will be able to nominate different unions for each category, and after a while we will get the top 5 or 4 unions nominated for each category and set them up in the voting round. Users will then vote for the unions displayed for each category on which ones they believe deserve to win.

This will all be done by actual post, not using the standard poll system, in order to keep people from cheating. People will have to be above a certain level (like 6) in order for their vote to validate also, in order to keep people from creating secondary accounts to get more votes.

I'm pretty sure that anyone regardless of if they're on the team or not can have their vote count and leaders can vote for their own unions. I don't see why not, I might not be voting on my own union just out of fairness, although I think it'll be alright. I'll ask fastest though, since he knows how it worked in the past with that matter.

Alright silent, I can add you to the list of people who will be counting votes and be a part of the show. ;)

Also, for all the people in the team, especially those that aren't members here and I don't know as well, we will probably be communicating a lot through PMs, so make sure not to have your profile private, or become friends with all the other people so it'll be easy to contact each other. We might also use the @ thing to contact people later if they don't mind being contacted that way.

We kind of have a couple designers who have said they would help out with this. Right now Dgalmun finished creating a userbar which people can wear in their sigs to advertise this event.

For the actual awards however, it would be extremely nice if we were able to have designers create like a custom blog header for the unions that win an award. That way winning unions could showcase it if they wanted in their homepage.
