Right, so there are two distinct possibilities for the PS360 game: Zelda-esque or 2D

We are going to see something major, very soon.  And it will be amazing regardless.

Now, discuss. Do you want a 3D Legend of Castlevania, or a Hi-res 2D game?

Personally, an HD/2D Castlevania would be really nice. However, if the shield system makes a comeback in a LoZ-esque adventure, I'll be happy. Either way, I'm all in.

True both ways would work quite fine, however i am leaning more towards the 3D game, just by thinking about the huge potential that COD had, they kind of tried by using a big world intead of a big castle, but it didn't feel like a world map or an adventure, the map got quite monotonous. So yea all they have to do is fuse the big world of COD with the adventure elements of OoE and you got your Lgend of Castlevania hahahaha, amirite?

If it was 3D with the play styIe of Zelda that would be really interest though fans would want a 2D Hi-Res ones.

*sighs* i have to go with 2d. i love the 2d games way more overall and they just seem to fit better to me. the 3d ones so far were ok. 64 had its problems, but i was younger and overlooked the majority of them. LoI was one of my favorites back then, but its lost my interest a bit over the years, and i just didnt like much about CoD. but if they made a 3d castlevania that felt like the 2d ones, id be happy. the problem is that i dont know how to make them feel more similar without makin it a 2.5d game.

id probably be happy with a 3d one as long as its handled right, but a 2d one would make me way happier

I'd want a 3D with the same elements that made SotN so good.

Such as the whole Metroidvania thing.

doing that will only result in another CoD, because that is exactly what they did for that game, not that the game was terrible but it could have done much better

Elements of Metroidvania =/= what made CoD bad. God awful level design and GRINDN = what mainly made CoD bad.

CoD + muuuuuuuch better level design - GRINDN =  A very popular and well recieved game

Both would be awesome, but I think a 3D game has more potential. The games have great atmosphere, but I'd like it to be more ...dark and creepy, and that's not possible in 2D. Lots of blood is a must. They need to focus a lot more on combat than LoZ does too, something DMCesque would be most fitting. LoZ exploration is great, but this is CV, so not a lot of puzzles... *thinks of a CV with the exploration of LoZ, the battles from DMC and bloody creepiness and then faints*

Never took the time to get all the weapons and Innocent Devils then, I take it?

ID's literally required you to grind against enemies with certain weapons for approximately way too long, and weapons required grinding for drops, or grinding for steals. It was there, and it was fairly bad.

Almost all materials can be stolen from a monster, and for most monsters, stealing really isn't that hard. and the drops that can't be stolen aren't nearly as rare as in other games.

As for IDs, well, they aren't really all that necessary(which actually may be another serious flaw for the game). And once you get to the hall with all the evil cores it takes only about ten minutes to get a baby ID to it's final form without missing a skill in a lower form.(and a save room is in the same hall, so if your baby ID dies, it'll only take 5 seconds to revive it)

Whats that? those are ideal conditions? need I remind you in other CV games it could take 30 minutes to get a rare drop with 50 luck?

Stealing is easy.

Have fun making the laser sword and death scythe. EASY. Stealing from death is a piece of masochistic cake. Getting Dullahans item was like taking candy from a juiced up super baby.

I will admit that they are not mandatory, but come on, who honestly didn't at least try to get 100% (and besides, what isn't cool about a damn laser sword, regardless of time period)?

Besides, even if the GRINDN was fairly small (and I admit, I completely forgot about that hall of floating ball...things. Regardless, that is still a fair bit of time to spend), compare it to Laments GRINDN.

Oh, wait. There wasn't any. Ever. No leveling or stats, and all items could be easily obtained with no grinding, save for maybe grinding for some cash. Rather, the game focused on nifty little puzzles and sub-bosses to get awesome items. Going from none to some is still far worse than some to still some.

on a slightly unrelated note, did anyone else have problems with load times in CoD (PS2 version)? Every time I would start up a new game, for about 5 minutes, going from room to room or loading up the map would take about 5-10 seconds, rather than 1-2.

i never had loading problems with that game. it only took like 3 secomds or so. plus i think the steal system was easy for almost everything. i got death's pulse thing in like 3 tries and it was honestly tougher to get trevor's curry than it was to get death's item form me. lol. the biggest thing i hated with cod was the id system and also the waiting process to steal. i hated waiting forever for one specific animation just so i could steal somethin completely worthless. and yet i spent all that time making everythin possible in that game.

i just hope if they do end up makin a 3d one next, they make it like LoI but with a leveling system, and no other gimicks that we dont need. no familiars (they are alaways pointless except for gimicks for gettin rooms open), no item making, and stealing system. if they do it liek that, and make the castle look unique (instead of each area bein different, but every room in an area lookin pretty much the same) id be happy with it.

same here.. Thus if they manage to pull out a 3D one I LOVE CV to grown in that direction...

The one that I would LOVE is 2.5D

what I DO NOT WANT is another fail 3D attempt

I think a if done right a 3d game could be great in the PS3, I mean the story could be animated beautifull, same with teh fight and ... THE CASTLE.. can you imagine tha castle... *day dreams*

now the lvl design needs an effort for taht to work.. like the attention of details that is giving to games like AoS and DoS.. and of course OoE..

The story is something that imo has always being there (at leats in most) so I know they would come with a GREAT one, one that would deserved our memories...

either way... I CAN NOT wait for the new CV :P (even thus I`m still working with CVJ, and I`m still want to fight you guys on it :( )

ANYWAY!

Gentlemen. Back on topic.

GreggD

thanks I was about to goo for that... Guys/gals if you want to discuss the likes and dislikes about the 3D games we (you) are welcome to open a new thread, but lets stay here on topic... :D

yes, topic, right.

I'm considering making a "make your own Legend of Castlevania/Zeldavania/Zeldavaniaroid game mechanics" Thread some time, that should be along soon.

Well, I see absolutely no reason why Castlevania can't make the leap to 3d. A lot of other game franchises that were initially 2d have made the leap succesfully. However Castlevania has already made three 3d games, all of which were lack-luster. Yet they continue to make fun 2d games, which is why I am leaning for the new game to be 2d. However, if they could fix the mistakes of previous 3d games and make an new awesome one, that would make me the happiest. I've been waiting a long time for Castlevania to become a major franchise with the next-gen systems; one that would have the budget and the respect of games like Zelda, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia, etc. I think it's possible, they just have to avoid the mistakes of the previous 3d games. I think the biggest problems with the previously released 3d Castlevania games are that they were, for starters, far too linear. Also, the fighting was stale; I see no reason why Castlevania can't have some, like, over the top, Devil May Cry style fight system. The boss battles were way too easy as well, so harder, more epic bosses is a must. Also, if there were more puzzles, rather then just mindless fighting the game would be more interesting, and if you could get more items that would further you in your adventure, like in Zelda, that would add alot to the game experience. I really liked the familiar/summons system in both Curse of Darkness and Dawn of Sorrow, so if they could find someway to incoporate that as well.
