What do you think of castlevania? yet another konami classic I believe the 3rd (nes) is one of the top 100 games of all time. I own all but x and most japanese versions...
Which is your favorite if you have any opinion?

definately one of my favorite series', i loved one and wrote a review about that one, not too much a fan of two but ill try n finish it, and a huge fan of III, probly the best in the series to date for me, altho the newer ones were also really good, castlevania bloodlines, super castlevania, and the ones of GBA...good series overall!

After playing all the GBA's and DoS, the older Castlevania's seem dated.  That pretty much makes DoS the best for me, and yes, even greater than SotN.

Anyway I want the next Castlevania to be for a next gen. console, and it will be 2D like the handheld games, but character models, backgrounds, enemies, pretty much everything but movement would be in 3D.  That will never happen, but I'd have an accident if it did.  Another SotN!  Well at least suped-up-SotN.

Castlevania is an excellent series. my favorites have to be Dracula X: Rondo of Blood(PCEngine), Circle of the Moon(GBA), and Curse of Darkness.

Dracula X for Saturn would be my favorite one in the series.  Many of the songs in it play in my mind still when I go walking.  My next favorite would be Rondo of Blood, a great but rare game.  I haven't had the chance to play Dawn of Sorrow yet.

For the current generation of consoles, I would rather see a new 2D version but that is probably because of my fond memories; a good game is a good game afterall, whether it is 2D, 3D or a combination of the two.

2D Castlevania games are great. The 3D one's didn't live up to my expectations. I heard that a new Castlevania game is coming to PS3. I assume it will be 3D again. I just  hope Konami gets it right this time and makes the first truly great 3D Castlevania game. I know it can happen if done correctly. For example, a lot of people thought Mario and Zelda would never be great in 3D until ZeldaOoT and Mario 64 came out. A bit off-topic but I hope Contra makes the jump to next-gen. Maybe we will here something about new Castlevania and Contra titles at this years E3.

hurrr ... what's castlevania? for the record, despite the horrible flaws in the game I really do like SotN. Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow are very good as well. Dracula X on the Turbo Duo is also pretty good as long as you remember it's older than Castlevania 4 and don't complain about the lack of an 8 way whip you have in CV 4 and Bloodlines.

Horrible flaws?

I thought that the English voice acting was a bit silly but I never considered it a big deal; certainly not as bad as the horrific voice acting in Star Ocean: The Second Story.

SotN's biggest flaw is that the game becomes easier as you progress. If you play the game normally and wear the best things you find though out the game without putting any effort into finding other items you end up turning into a tank and it actually takes effort to die. In order to make the game challenging you usually have to go out of your way and change how you play the game. Such as using the luck code and doing a naked run.

I felt that the game's difficulty level was relatively the same all the way through; in that, it wasn't that difficult of a game.  I personally don't see this as a flaw though.  Oh, but how I hate the fleamen, I hope there is a circle in hell reserved for them...

;) there is :P do you think that the castlevania series might make its way onto the psp? i acctualy have hope that there might be a 2d psp castlevania after how many 2d games and collections have been scheduled! maybe konami will notice that on portables, 2d is still okay to most peoples standards. Although i love 3d games on my psp/ds, i understand that some games just weren't ment for 3d (CASTLEVANIA) >: (

i have a ds, but i just thought it sounded pretty good, a 2-d castlevania on psp, if made right, it could EASILY be the best castlevania... Add nice soundtrack, graphics, same gameplay but some new mechanics, old school difficulty, but you can still save ^_^ seems so simple... i dont mind though, after castlevania dos I cant see any CV disapointment in the near future... They REALLY need to kill soma's story though...

I would love to see a 2D Castlevania game on the PSP.  I don't have any of the newer generation handheld systems and after hearing about how there is going to be a Metal Slug collection (and perfecly translated from the arcade!) released for the PSP I can't help but lean towards getting that instead of the DS (even though the DS has Dawn of Sorrow).  But if I were a rich man then I would get both systems, of course.  (Oh great, now I have a Fiddler on the Roof song stuck in my head.)

Then again, if  I was rich, I would just buy all the Metal Slug arcade machines...

If there was a 2D PSP Castlevania I can imagine the DS fanboys crying out for help.  The PSP backgrounds and effects would be sooooo much better than with DoS.  And that widescreen could accomodate wider views throughout areas.  Shame it may never happen...maybe the Castlevania creator will cave and give PSP owners some 3D Castlevania's for some reason.
