Is there anything that bugs you about unions? To me, it's like they aren't full websites, but they don't seem to be a part of gamespot either, so they don't have too much of a classification. Even though I love unions, there are still things that bug me, so what is something that bugs you guys about unions?

I'll tell you what bugs me, that damn "See all videos" link has never worked. My union has over 70 videos, and i can see only 20 of them.

I don't like the fact that the admin button takes forever to load. I hate that there is way too many damn unions on GS, most of them are crap and need to be erased right away. They need more emblems for unions, level system is never working. Members who join and never post a single thing. It goes on and on.

Agreed on the cleanup! I once joined a union, posted a lot, and then realized that the last post was from about 6 months ago. That was a waste of time.

The thing that bugs me about unions is the sometimes necessity of random or off-topic threads to gather activity. I agree with those who find those to be spam. Now, I do like union games. I don't like the off-topic threads and people who post random garbage. Even union games can quickly get old though.

yeah, I feel union games and off-topic threads are simply there to attract attention to an otherwise boring union.

A few of the problems about the unions are the emblems and the level glitch, which they have to fix soon. Also, another would be that stupid PM glitch where it sends out more than 3 PMS to EACH MEMBER. thats annoying when you get 5 or more PMs coming back to you saying stop spamming me.

I have never encountered or heard of the PM glitch, I think it has something to do with your net problems. And I prefer unions and emblems to stay stuck so tht way all the lower level unions aren't neglected.

I have had a similar problem with a couple of union telegrams triple sending after a single click. I never received any complaints though. I agree that it is probably a problem at my end, similar to pages occasionally reloading for no apparent reason. Not sure what exactly is causing it though.

One work around is to moniter yor PMs, and when you receive the second one, unplug your net connection. Drastic, I know, but I believe it works.

The lackof features and the lack of GS supports. The unions are noting more than message boards right now. Hopefully this is going to change when union 2.0 comes out.

Also, the amount of off-topic unions with spams and union games really annoys me.

When the level meter was still working, all these spam unions would just have spammers post as much as they can to boost the level. Now the level is "broken", the off-topic unions have very little incentive to spam. Yay.

This is my theory: Gamespot staff knew about these spam unions for a long time, and they really want them to stop. But taking the level meter away will also make a lot of other good unions with high levels mad, because people will no longer recognize them as one of the top unions.

So, Gamespot simply stopped the meter's growth, and permanently surpressed the meter-rush spammers. When people ask them why the meter is not working, they simply say "it's a glitch." This way, the meter is still there, but it's as good as nothing. All problems solved. :D

Just kidding.

There's not enough you can do to customize it to seperate it from other unions visually.

they don't seem to be a part of gamespothendrix29

Thats exactly what I would say is an issue I have with unions, in fact, its what I was planning to post here. When I first signed up with GS a while ago, I simply came here to find some info about a game, but I quickly became addicted to GS and its many features. But, despite my being on GS for a while, it was several months before I even knew of the existance of unions. And when I first heard about unions, and joined up with one, I though to myself "Why was I never told about these!", because they don't really seem to be much of an active part of GS.

I think newbies should be given more of an indication of the significance of unions, and something should be done to encourage the use of unions within GS. Perhaps something along the lines of the union updates?

Cheers

I agree with you completely J-Man, you don't know how many people I invite ask me "What is this union thing you invited me to?" when I invite them to my TES union. It seems like gamespot doesn't want unions to exist, and if they do, they certainly need to do a better job advertising them.

What bugs me is that there is tons of unions on gamespot all with the same concept and idea. System Wars, Wii, XBOX360, PS3, DS, PSP, All System, union are the most common. Whenever I get invited to one of these I normally decline because theres just tons of them. If you create a union, offer something different then other unions otherwise its just "another" union. News isnt enough ethier, somehow someway, the leader has to have some creative ideas. And nothing lame also, like Picture of the Week or Game of the Month.. Thats all been done before, this is why its getting harder and harder for some people to establish a union they want. Simply because there is to many of the one they want to create.

I first wanted to start a Wii union but after seeing about 100 Wii unions, I decided to let the idea go. Thats why I started TokyoGO! since im expereince in anime and most the anime unions I seen here on gamespot dont exactly cover much anime news, just certain animes. My union also covers more then just anime, covers also japanese news and figurine news.

I agree with you fr0stm0rn, and that is the reason why many of those unions are not very successful. The best unions are different than the others.

but the main thing is, those unions are not recognized by gamespot. You are only endorsed if you have something to contribute to gaming.

I want to be able to create the union invititations, instead of those dumb computerized ones. I think that's a union V2 feature though. Also, my video tab doesn't work so I had to make a new video section.

I think some of you may remember my rant in the Unions V2 thread in Site Enhancements. Hopefully I don't have to repeat it. :P I also think it's wrong when some unions say they make the news when they really copy and paste info from another site. Thats why I'm proud of my union, Fantasy Threads (incoming shameless plug :P). Part of the FT Staff Member (officer)rules is that they have to credit the source and put it into their own words.

I wish that that the level ups and emblem level would work. I also don't like the fact that I am unable to copy and paste articles as easily as I used to (although this is a problem with all the gamespot forums).

For some reason, I mainly get invites from those on my list, and those are not too often... perhaps some of them read my blog... who knows? :)
