I think it would be pretty cool but I kind of see the hand being our logo.

Discuss-

-What it could be
-Should we get one
-Who could/will do it if we want one

Well, I don't think it's necessary, but I'm not against it really. Depends on what it would be like. And where would it be then?

Unless someone starts doing the comic, I don't see any use for it.

Doesn't really matter, this thread feels oddly reminiscent of the "Banner Contest."

*Speaks* *Thread wakes*

I have this sudden desire for a logo. I'm thinking that if I ever do a video for the Guild, I can watermark it, like GS does.

The thing about making a logo, is that I don't think we are allowed to use images another person has made, without permission, and I just pulled "the hand" off google. (I'm thinking of the future, if the Guild ever got it's own website and became notable, then such a mistake could have legal problems)

This means that somebody would need to actually create a base image to be edited into a logo.

If I had a good picture of a hand I could use some GIMP effects on it to make it look like a drawing, or whatever else you want me to do with it.

Okay, I have two ideas (might affect the banner too), for now, someone tell me how hard it is to do an image of a keyboard with altered lettering. Photo or drawn.

Shouldn't be too hard, just take a picture, edit out the letters, and add in different ones.

Unless of course the keyboard isnt head on but from an angle. Then it's still doable but you have to take all the letters and (forget the word) them into images and tilt them all. Still doable just becomes a nuisance.

Mhmm, what about doing a part of the board/individual keys?

Just to give reference, I was thinking of replacing the letters next to the enter key with the letters of Creators' Guild.

That easy? Want to try then?

I mean, I'm not sure if those could make a good logo or not. It would have to work as a solid image and a watermark. And look good to boot:P

No, no, that would be a different pic, much longer. The point of these is having the C and G already next to one another.

Is there a tool in GIMP that lets you curve text?

EDIT: Okay, here is something:

This is NOT exactly what I want. I was hoping for more of an elipse, like the banner I made a while back, but the only way I could find to get curved text was a GIMP auto-script that made a perfect circle, and I didn't bother to go through it a hundred times trying different fonts. And I want it to sort of look like a sign on a stone wall....

Also, GIMP doesn't have a bold version of the Curlz font that I keep using.

I'll have to try shrinking it to see how that goes.

Tried shrinkiing and transparency, looks alright, but until I see it over a video I can't be sure.

@dg: No GIMP help?:( And yeah, it's just a 1 hour prototype.

To make the letters shiny, you could just make some text, then put a layer mask on it and use filter-light-supernova.

There is no file for bold Curlz, only for the plain version, but there never used to be a problem with making it bold. It's already in the windows font folder.

umm... where did my post go? and I wouldn't know about that since I use Ubuntu Linux. I have to copy or save the fonts into gimp's own font folder.

It was there when I last checked, Abyssion. We seem to be experiencing some glitches, as all edits are appearing as a double-post.

Freetype?

Is it just me, or did the topic title never have a typo before?

Freetype is like WordArt, (In MS Word) its supposed to give you all kinds of crazy text. What did you use?

Actually, the first post hasn't been edited, ever:?

Xtns, logos, text circle. I actually made two seperate ones with a slight gap, 10 degrees or something. But I couldn't change the amount of curve to what I wanted.

To make the letters shiny, you could just make some text, then put a layer mask on it and use filter-light-supernova.

Okay, it works easy on it's own, but when I try doing it on top of all the other layers I can't see any effect.

I don't think it will make that much of a difference in text that small.

My idea was with this text circle thing to put a bunch of spaces on both sides, so that the actual text is made into a half-circle. I'd try it today, but I'm working on that drawing of the guy with the axe. My friends want color :D

But still, NO difference?

You can set it to do half circles. Just set the 'fill angle' to 180, and you'll have a half circle. Though, for this I used 170. and the start angles were -85 & 95 respectively.

Okay, I was playing a bit more the other day, and came up with a few more attempts. Then I forgot about them while waiting for GS to show them, so anyway, here they are:

Logo1

Logo2

Logo3

So, any thoughts? My only real problem is that they're not really going to work if we shrink them.

Anyway, I can mix and match the variable bits, as you can see. So if anyone wants to suggest I try something, I should be able to do it up.

I still find it funny that I was originally going for a 'sign on the wall' look, and ended up with that circle. At least I found something to make the letters golden like I wanted.
