With the DS and Wii, Nintendo is trying to promote simple games and fun rather than the long and complicated games.  While I do understand that they plan to still make lengthy and adventurous games, I just cant help but worry.  I love having games that have an AMAZING story and a fair length as well, but to be honest, I cant seem to find many games like that on Nintendo's consoles as it is.  Do you think Nintendo's choice to make simpler games could come back and bite them in the ass?

They realize that simple games will draw in new audiences, but they are oblivious to the fact that at the same time they will LOSE audiences as well unless they are supplied with, for lack of a better word, real games.

you know honestly....i think Nintendo was very smart to do such a thing...I like simple games from time to time...when a game is soo hard and you get soo frustrated and put it down for months and months and then when you pick it up again you can't remember what was going on...that gets old after awhile....i like hard games but sometimes toning it down does a person some good...nothin wrong with having some plain ol' fun on a console system... :D i still yank out my old NES for some old school simple games.

I'm sure they'll make a nice mix of simple and hardcore games.

I came to the DS late because I waited for the Lite. I have lots of games to catch up on like Castlevania, MKDS, Mario and Luigi: Partners in time, Advance Wars: Dual Strike etc. So I have loads of real games to still to play so there isn't a shortage for me. I feel for you though REVfreak.

I do agree that more simplistic games is a good thing, because i know what its like to put a game down for a few weeks and then go back to it only to forget absolutely everything about it.  I just hope Nintendo and third parties dont forget to make real games to.  Also, im tired of crap games like veggie tales and ice age being announced, I want a good game announcement

I think you're going the wrong way... Nintendo is doing the right thing right now, if you don't like "simple games", well there will be Zelda, Metroid Prime, Red Steel, and they'll sure be fun; sometimes when you look for a long game just to be amazed by its graphics or length, it takes fun out of it, you'll never play it again once you've finished it. That's why i'm 100% Nintendo

I by no means want Wii to be filled with gory shooters or anything of the kind, I just think all of Nintendo's home consoles tend to have a lack of variety.....they do at least have more variety than Microsoft, but that is the reason why Sony inevitably won this generation, because of variety.  Im sure once TP comes out I will shut up, but I just want to see a nice long RPG with a great storyline (AKA a Final Fantasy :P )

simple games can be a refreshing fun break, that's what games are for after all - fun, shorter games can be lots of fun. but the longer games will still come - i enjoy a lengthy title myself 9 out of 10 times, but do enjoy a game of something quick as well in the breaks. i think there will be a good mix - i also think that there'll be alot of people that remember what fun gaming is all about with the Wii.

and besides a great game is always worthy of being replayed. my concern is that the bigger titles will reduce, but thank god i have a nice catalog of titles worthy of replaying...actually replaying them - not just look at them collect dust.

Good Thread. Well it seems like Nintendo is doing the right thing promoting these simplistic games becuase it's exactlly what you needif you are a new gamer. I do however have one note Nintendo won't just abandon more complex games in the end games have to get more sophisticated because lets face it two years down the line the Wii mote want be as thrilling unluess newer more complex stuff is created for the system. Another thing is simpile is not short, after all I'm sure all of you can name many very simple but long games so don't confuse the two.

you know this makes me think of something, maybe the simpler games thing they have been pushing is the cause for TP to be what it has become - a huge very involved graphically stunning title. this would encompass both ends of the spectrum.

hey we have lots of fun quick games for you and we also have games that provide very high levels of involvement. that way no one can say - yeah but they don't have a oblivion (or whatever) type game

Allthey need to do is bring more gore so that they can abandon this stupid kiddie gaming company image, I certainlly would not mind a gears of war/ fall of man type game.

ehh, maybe one or two, i dont think those kinds of games would overall be good for Nintendo though.  People would still get a PS3 or 360 for that genre anyway, and plus kids and older gamers are where Nintendo gets their sales and profits

Simpler games are a good thing. Look at Kirby Canvas Curse. The game is not complicated. You draw lines, and make Kirby roll faster/use a power. How complicated is that? If you look at it, it's not really that the games are too kiddie like. They just aren't full of gore, which is what most XBox and PS players think a good game has. Just because it looks kiddie doesn't mean it stinks...

speaking of that, I loved Canvas Curse!  I think its one of the best games on the DS!  Just for the record, I actually dont like most of the gory games, I just want a great RPG to be honest lol

I'm not really sure that more simplistic games are a good thing. As the early Nintendo players are getting older"Like myself"i think they are looking to play more challenging games that test their mind and their patients as well!Don't get my wrong i enjoy the simple games from time to time if i have nothing else to do.

I don't actually like ''simplistic'' games. I mean, they attract new audiences, look at games like Nintendogs, those were real DS sellers. But what worries me is when Nintendo chooses to apply this structure to every game. Easy, short, playable, attractive, it's not catering for the gamers out there that want story, length, action, that kinda thing. I mean, the last proper Mario game (NSMB) happens to be the easiest one ever made, and yet it sold so well. You know, you CAN make ''real'' games and still sell them.

Simplistic games = Yes.

More of them = No.

well, they kind of re-clarified that they still plan on making masterpieces like Twilight Princess, along with all of the simplistic games like Wii Sports
