Could sales have been hurt by the rating for T? SOME parents may have not let their kid get the game. This is a big if question and I don't think this idea affected sales that much.

I highly doubt so, but it might have hurt it if it was rated M and deffinitaly if it was Ao. Zelda was always fit to be a T rated game.

Apparently it is, according to IGN anyway.

According to IGN, TP has not met Nintendo's expectations for the top notch title in Japan, and perhaps even in the U.S. This is giving people reason to believe that Nintendo's production of "hardcore" titles may be slowing down... especially considering games like Brain Age are outselling games like Twilight Princess. This is definitely not good news for hardcore gamers that are Nintendo fans, what do you think?

Well, I know many who haven't even played The Wind Waker yet. This comes as no shock to me at all. On a personal note: When I first saw screenshots from The Twilight Princess, it reminded me too much of Ocarina of Time - which I was terribly disappointed with. I just lost interest.

What do I think about Twilight Princess? I didn't REALLY like it until the second playthrough. I probably wouldn have given it an 8.6 the first time, but the second and third times I'd give it a 9.5. Its really epic in scope, the Wii controls are far superior, and the gameplay was really alot better than OOT or WW. However, it just didn't have everything that we expected it to, and that was far too much for any dev to deliver. Its alright, as the series only seems to be getting better, so we'll just keep on waiting. However, the sales do surprise me... I though Japan was big into Zelda? Click Me! I dunno. oh, and click the link for great justice!

At one point Zelda was a very successful franchise in Japan, but over recent years the japanese moreso than any other culture have lost interest in the franchise.  TP was only in the top ten for software there for a few weeks before it faded out, and games like Wii Sports and Wii Play exceeded TP sales.  The real variable though, is going to be how well Phantom Hourglass will do on the DS, as it releases in only a short three weeks or so in Japan.  If that goes well, then things could turn out for the better.
