To a lot of people, the Final Fantasy "fantasy" ended with Final Fantasy VII. Some believed that VIII, IX and X wasn't up to standard, and it was a mere display of graphics, fancy gameplay and the stories do not match up to the standards before.

But, really, who can say that FF hasn't always been a fine display of artwork and amazing CG. They all come in a package so attractive, that makes a fine Final Fantasy story and game.

I hope Final Fantasy XII will change these people's minds. :?

Each Final Fantasy should be it's own "Fantasy." It shouldn't have to live up to another game's stadards; it should make it's own path in gamers hearts and gaming history and not follow in the footsteps of another game. Thats my point in it all. :)

I thought VI was better then VII. As for the series being crap after VII is just ridiculous because VIII, IX and X wheather or not they are better than VII(debatable) they are still superb games.

^ Thats true, most of those people also dont like changes. VII was the first 3D final fantasy with some kind of good cutscenes. from then on, final fantasy started to change more and more with each game. then ff-X came in with voices. some people found that to be obsered....i still like the old school final fantasy ( I-VI ), but i say that from VII and on were much better. ooo yeah, can someone answer this, when did final fantasy stories have standards? i think that all the FF stories were all unique. People just have different tasts for different stories.

i think the standards came in with either VI or VII because even though each FF story is unique in some way, VI and VII were showing more depth and development in plot and characters. FFI is unique because its simple, FFIIs story is unique because it was ahead of its time, FFIV had a stereotypical story however it was combined by small sci- fi elements, FFVs story was unusual( to me at least), FFVI showed power, war and people, FFVII showed hope, FFVIII made love, FFIX had many things in its story and FFX and X-2 was realistic in a way because of religious traits and determination and hope. FFVI seemed to be the one that increased the quality of the stories. in my opinion, any FF after VII had more unique stories.

If anything, I would sas FFVII and FFVIII were not up to par. FFIX was a return to form
