Mainly Metal and Rock, but there's some Pop, Alternative, and C|assical sprinkled in there too.

Cant say I have, mainly been listening to an avante-garde artist I recently discovered... by the name of Patrick Wolf. Avante-garde seems to suit his music, since it does seem to fit into any particular genre...

Well, they only have two albums, and the new one that came out is called "Swoon". I think it's pretty good, reminds me a lot of the Smashing Pumpkins :o

I've been listening to some really awesome Japanese music by the Yoshida Brothers.  You should check them out if you want to hear some great sound.
