Hello guys.

The X1 may be stupid, but a part of me tells me that MS is gonna revise a lot of its policies.

Chaz, I too doubt it will happen, but wishful thinking can't hurt :) At most they will just slightly reword what they said to make it sound more consumer friendly.

MS dont know what the consumer wants.

So I said that League of Legends popularized the modern F2P scheme.

Someone called me an idiot without refuting my point. Then after pressing him to prove me wrong he said that some f2p games have been fair before LoL. Then I was like lol, because I never said that LoL invented the fairer f2p we see today, only helped popularize it and inspire quite a few devs.

Gotta love people who resort to ad hominem or name calling, their arguements are always bad, and their reading comprehension skillst end to be worse.

How is it not hard to understand why people want an XB1?

Service retention, people have content and achievements they like to retain from their existing live accounts

Games, they like Dead Rising and Forza. Particularly Forza being a very strong franchise (It was probably the strongest/successful exclusive shown on stage behind Mario and Zelda).

Motion controls, it's actually a boon to the platform over the PS4 (even if the XB1 failed to communicate what the new device can do at e3).

Internet forum gamers, honestly, this is the vocal minority. The selective bias that will feel most strongly towards a console are the ones that post on forums. I had dinner with friends last saturday and XB1 and PS4 came up once (which is even a surprise, the last thing we talk about at a dinner is videogames), no criticism on Always online, DRM, price (PS4 is not that much cheaper here) etc; one thing was mentioned though: Forza 5.

And price? It's only a $50 difference where I live. ($549 for PS4, $599 for XB1). XB1 comes bundled with a kinect (something I spent $150 on for the 360. I think the system war is alot closer in reality over what system wars has lead you to believe.

i can see why some people would want it, but I personally do not think the system has any games to make me want to buy it. Ryse look good, and well, we all know how hat turned out. That, and Microsoft's retarded policies have completely turned me off to the idea of buying the system. And the price, of course.

EDIT: so many typos... I won't even bother

Always forget Kinect doubles as a controller and is probably the reason why it's more expensive than the PS4. Only remember the whole "I don't like the idea of being watched while playing my goddamn VNs" thing. Admittedly, I find that blown way out of proportion, but it does leave a scar. Hell, as you said, even MS forgot to mention it comes with a motion controller, not a spy camera.

Then there's the always-online thing. That's actually a bit of an issue for some people, including the military. On top of that, there's the restriction on used games and, well, I just get the impression that the Xbone is bad even if its problems don't actually affect me. Call it a hivemind effect. I imagine that starting to work on mainstream media. Matter of fact, I'm told it already has.

i have to say, the whole "internet forum gamers are a vocal minority" really does not apply to the Xbone. even my teachers are commenting and ragging on the thing. even non-gaming news outlets are ragging on it.

and it's not without reason. microsoft has yet to give gamers one good reason to want to stay always online, and to give up on their used games. and until they do, the bad press will keep on coming.

add that with the fact that halo/fable/forza are all the system has to offer in terms of exclusives, and it's not hard to see why the majority of people aren't putting up with it.

fun fact:

persona 4, a game about high schoolers in their 15-16 years of age, is rated M (17+).

i guess high school life is too hardcore for high schoolers.

How to create a rumor in 2 steps.

1. Create a NeoGAF account
2. Post stuff

Also, from my understanding. The Last of Us has kinda meh gameplay, and a story that is essentially ripped off from The Road except nowhere near as well done. So if this is true I ask, why does this game even exist?

This kickstarter looks a whole lot promising. It is an RPG with,

  • A setting that is incredibly underused (India)
  • A story that continues even if you fail or even die
  • Combat that is always avoidable
  • Consequences for combat and killing (Violence may lead to easy solutions but cause more problems later down the line)
  • 3 relationship meters, each character has respect, friendship and fear of you dephending on how you act (low fear for instance means that NPCs can supposedly take advantage of you)

i was thinking to myself just now, and i remembered that back when P4 came out, my reaction to it (based solely on an EGM review that praised it to hell and back) was "why would i want to stop the RPG to do some boring high school simulator stuff?".

now, i find myself desperate to move on from the RPG parts as soon as possible so i can go back to socializing :P

Well, I've played plenty of it so far, and I wouldn't say it has meh gameplay. In fact, it's gameplay is really good. It has a few AI issues at times, and those aren't really even immersion reading, and other than that, everything else IST pretty well done. The open ended nature of the combat leaves o wit plenty of options, and I'm generally having fun playing it, to put it mildly. Plus, the game's REALLY atmospheric.

as for the story, I've never really read The Road. TLoU has obviously taken inspiration from plenty of sources, it i don't know if it has completely ripped something off. All I know is that the story, setting and characters are really well done and are dong a great job of keeping me hooked to the game.

I have been reading more about the game and it seems to be worth a rent at most now. Which certainly is better than "worse than drinking horse piss". Still not sure I want to play it though, I absolutely HATED Uncharted and consider it my standard for shit.

But I might still give it a chance, if I can find it for extremely cheap.

Maroxad

I'm not trying to sell you on the game, because I hate it when people do that with me, it's up to you after all, but I WILL say that if you hated Uncharted, that's no reason not to play The Last of Us. Both are actually complete opposites of each other. It's like ND took the worst of uncharted, reversed it and then put it into TLoU. Linearity- well, yeah, TLoU is still linear, but not entirely. You can take different paths at time, which all lead you to the same destination, but it's still a nice option. Then there's random exploration, where you can go into insignificant areas just to collect items which almost always come in handy for crafting stuff that you will DEFINITELY need. It's nothing that has never been done before, but ND have put it all together to create something truly great. And I've rarely ever had the chance to actually use guns all throughout a gunfight. It's usually just two three guys, which is when I run out of ammo, and then it's all improvisation. And it's so nerve-wracking the entire game... intense atmosphere.

I know a lot of this sounds like hyperbole, and it might be, honeymoon phase and all, but I'm just telling you what my impressions are from the first seven hours or so. Again, it's completely up to you of course, but I would definitely recommend it. Worth a rent? Definitely, AT LEAST.

I see. I heard it is similar to Uncharted though in some ways, namely the fact that it has some cover based shooting which I absolutely hate. Thankfully as you said, the lack of ammunition results in people sneaking up and meleeing most things. Anyway a few questions,

What difficulty do you play on? It seems a lot of the complaints about the gameplay are from people playiong on the low diffiulties/playing the first few hours.

From what I have heard you do have an upgrade system, but I have heard that you dont power up enough to the point so you can just overpower everything. Is this true? Because if it is it is nice to see more devs getting the power up system done right.

There isn't exactly a cover system, you can crouch behind objects if you like. It isn't the traditional cover mechanic where you press a button and just stick to cover. Anyway, you have to keep moving, because everyone's always flanking you, and stealth is usually the better option. And as I said before, you rarely ever get to use your guns so much, due to the lack of ammo.

I'm playing it on Normal, and I haven't had any complaints besides literally just two incidents, where some of my enemies failed to notice my companions moving in their line of sight. The gameplay's pretty good, and the good thing is that it lets you do things the way you want, rather than forcing you down a path in Uncharted.

And yeah, there is an upgrade system, but it doesn't provide any upgrades that will make you or your weapons super powered. Ability to carry around more bullets (usually 2 or 3 extra bullets at the most) and increasing reload time by a few seconds, and sure, it comes in handy, but it never makes you feel overpowered. I mean, all the encounters I've had with the human enemies and with the zombies have been as tense and nerve-wracking as before, and a large part of that is down to the difficulty. In most games that give you stealth as an option, you're usually the predator and you can easily take out all your enemies in a matter of a few seconds. It's not like that in The Last of Us. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't feel cheap either. It's pretty well balanced.

I think the only person Maroxad has been listening to about The Last of Us is SNIPER4321

Yeah, thanks for the confirmation about the upgrade system. I really hate it when upgrade systems make you redicilously powerful in the end. a 0-100% increase in power is ideal for me, with the ideal even there being you get more powerful but you will have your ass kicked if you are not careful.

The game sounds like it might be worth a rent afterall then.

Not really...

The biggest person I probably listened to is JustPlainLucas (who wrote a blog calling the game an AAA experience (the atmosphere in particular was praised) with triple meh gameplay. But there were a lot of other people too, I have no idea what SNIPER thinks of this game, I barely go to SW anymore.

Khoofia is someone I listen to now as well, he clearlly likes the game a lot but he isnt blindly worshipping it.

Trailer for Frozen, just a scene with the comic relief through. I actually did laugh a couple times, so maybe the snowman won't be that bad hopefully, like say the slug from Epic.
