I was recalling stargate episodes a while back and noticed that if they wished for the show to continue on for a long time, then the gou'ld should not have been defeated so quickly. I mean think about it, there are lots of them, and they are very powerful, and the only way they get defeated is by all these flukes and finds. Seriously, this was poor writing. There should have been more battle episodes where the gou'ld have to defend against earth and the jaffa and tokra and etc. It just seemed to lucky of a victory to me. I mean yes, "If enough of the right allies work together [the gould could be defeated]" (Major Carter, "Dead Man Switch") like in WWII right? Except in WWII there were battles, not finding of super weapons that would defeat the enemy. (Other than the A-Bomb of course but you know what i mean, that ancient life creator thingy.) Anyone else agree with me?

too easily!!!, it took them 7-8 years to defeat them and there is still baal and probably other goa'ulds on the loose. i think of they draged the goa'uld story too long it would have got too boring i think they stretched the story as much as they could

Yeah. Think about it, WWII took what, five years? And that was on earth. This is against goul'd that control armies on thousands of planets. Too easy.

Well we also had a very powerful ally to protect us so we could do multiple black ops missions and also the goa'uld got their power from jaffa slaves and many started to have their doubts.  It doesnt take many when you know all their weaknesses and can exploit them.  We also were very lucky alot of times and one of SG-1 has said, not in so many words, that the ancients might have always been looking out for them somehow.

No. I agree with him. I mean, the Stargate program was set up and based around "finding technology to defeat the Goa'uld". I think the Goa'uld should be the major enemy in the show. Sarge is right. They were always saying how much they were against the odds and then they just happen o find a super weapon? C'mon. That's a corny resolution. I still don't know anything about the Ori, but I think it would've been better if they entered the scene by destroying the Goa'uld. Would've been a better season 8 cliff hanger as well.

Well if they wanted it to be more realistic they would have to had called it the SGC since most of the teams would constantly be dying including SG-1.  They almost died on their first mission and aphopis could have sent a couple of ha'taks as soon as he got to earth and destroyed us then.

I didn't say anything about realism. (Unless I did) I think they needed a better storyline. It feels like a half-assed job. "We'll just make them find a super weapon from nowhere and finish it there. I'm going home"

I agree with DoHo. And when you look at it, what are the Ori but just another version of the Gou'ld? They pretend to be gods, they enslave people through fear and oppression... gou'ld? See, that's another thing, the gou'ld were getting too old as you say, and so they brought in more gould. To me, there's no change. It's just like Mitchell, a re-hash. Cheap.

Except that the Ori are the closest things ever seen to true god's and much more powerful than anything our galaxy has seen in thousands of years.  The ancients may have moved away from the wraith but they had to go to another plane of existance to get away from the Ori.  Plus it's always cool to see some super weapon or what next ship earth will come out with.

And it doesn't even work any more.  They defeated the Goa'uld by convincing their Jaffa armys that they were false gods.  Without all the Jaffa they're nothing.

Nope, the Daedalus has rail guns and missiles, no energy weapons.

To Sarge's comment, I don't agree because I don't see the Goa'uld as defeated so much as seriously diminished.  They're still out there, and as seen in Stronghold, they can still be at least a marginal threat.  The demise of the Goa'uld can't be attributed to a one-episode "Oh, look we found a cool new superweapon to defeat the Goa'uld" storyline either.  The entire premise was played out over several seasons from the moment Teal'c defected in Children of the Gods.  It wasn't a drawn-out process because, like most insurrections, the Jaffa slowly build over a long period of time then suddenly, WHAM!  In this case it looked like the military might of the Jaffa was enough to subdue the Goa'uld with nary a shot fired.  That's the difference between an insurrection and a war.  The Bolshevik Revolution and the Petrograd Revolt, the Boxer Rebellion, all were quick, decisive and over almost as soon as they began.  They had all been slowly building for years, though.

To summarize, I think they did a really good job with diminishing the Goa'uld threat, despite what I felt were some serious missteps in other storylines (anyone else think Jack got really stupid after being stuck in the deep freeze?).  Mitchell's integration into the command of SG-1 was too easy, I think.  Carter is back to being the quintessential tech-head and has lost a lot of the personality she'd developed (but GAWD was she hot in "Grace Under Pressure"!) and Teal'c is becoming a bit too Americanized.  The only constant right now is the eternally-caffeinated Jackson, and it's almost like he and Mitchell are going to be the Teal'c/O'Neill of the new generation.

I think that the G'ould are only temporaly gone, thinking about it. Not all of them were wiped out. Some survived, and give it a few seasons, and the G'ould could be back. Think about it. The humans are dealing with the Ori. This gives the G'ould a chance to replenish their numbers and fight back. Their not that concerened with the Ori. So Sarge, thinking about it, the G'ould aren't gone, their just temporarily gone like the Replicators when Anubis came.

Good arguments, but, the Goa'uld are just as gone as Jack. So basically (although a lot easier to put back into the show than RDA) they're gone.

But that's where you're wrong DoHo, Jack may be coming back in episdoe 200. So if you compare Jack and the G'ould, both can potentialy come back, the G'ould with a good back story on coming back, O'Neil, with a bad back story.

Hmm interesting debate. I however think that the gou'ld were still defeated too quickly. The superweapon I refer to is the one on dakara by the way. I suppose it doesn make sense that the jaffa are the goul'ds power and therefore it is realistic that they would easily be defeated once the jaffa all rebelled, but this doesn't explain the ori and how they are still like the goul'd (I KNOW, the ori are more powerful bla bla bla, but the same idea is there. It's not like after the goul'd were defeated the earth found another race of humans out there who decided to make war with them, like the United Federation of Planets or something. lol.)

It played a pivitol role in convincing the jaffa to betray the goul'd. I also thought they used it to kill the goul'd but that couldn't be otherwise the jaffa would all die too.

Don't worry, it's gone now. I sent that PM to Sarge. It's all over now. Now, back to the G'ould. In the Movie, Re, was like a alien with legs and a head and everything, not a worm like a G'ould here. I think that was really werid. They changed the G'ould. Was Re actually a G'ould, or some kind of mutated one like Anubis? Any input?

Yeah.  The show isn't like the movie in the same way.  Such as, the StarGate doesn't just go to one place, the DHD etc...   They had to make it more TV friendly.
