Thoughts on the nominees (and winners once they're announced)?

For me, I can't really comment on most of the nominees. Out of the "Album of the Year" nominees, the only one I've listened to in its entirety was Jack White's. Same thing for "Best Rock Album". I'm hoping either deadmau5 or Kaskades' albums win "Best Electronica Album". I've only listened to Zac Brown Band's album for "Best Country Album". Can't really comment on anything else though.

I can't stand the Grammy's, but I'm liking that Indie bands have been winning them for the past few years. I haven't really listened to much music at all from last year so I guess it'll be a surprise to me no matter who wins.

At first I thought this was going to be one devoid of sillier nominations (i.e. nominations that blantantly don't fit), unlike last year (Bon Iver nominated for New Artist was quite funny). Then I cam across entries like Bangarang and Biophilia. Bangarang was an EP, so not sure how it's up for dance album of the year. And Biophilia was out in 2011, and within plenty of time for it to fit with 2012's grammies, so what it's doing there I don't know. Same goes for Gotye's Making Mirrors. Also, maybe it's just me, but Record of the Year and Song of the Year seem to technically be the exact same thing.

Of course, the nominees in general just further my view that the grammies just go for what's big and trendy at the time, since personally there's plenty of different things I'd put in there.

The main reason Bangarang shouldn't be up for best dance album is because it's an abomination.

Well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, though there's plenty things filed under dance music I enjoyed more I'll grant :P
